I purchased 2 of these XB21s for my kids. I didn't want them to have smart speakers. I just wanted them to have good portable speakers that they could take with them to summer camp, out when they visit friends and (soon) college. Reasons to get the Sony XB21. Water proof (IP67) means it's waterproof, you can link multiple units together (Sony call it Party Chain) so a few of these can make a big party sound, they charge by USB and the battery lasts 12 hours - a full day of fun. Personally I think the lights are a bit of a gimmick, but my kids love them (the lights can be switched off if you don't like). Overall a great unit and highly recommended.

I am very impressed with this speaker. Its lightweight and very portable. There are speakers on all sides so the sound is awesome. its dust and waterproof so its will be great for outdoor adventures or beach trips. it connects very easily. the lighting features are cool but i could do without. i would assume it just kills the battery life but by downloading an app its easily turned off. the speaker is very customizable by the app. from lighting to sound preferences. it can even be turned off through the app so you dont have to get up. havent found any cons yet. black is always a classic. great buy!

This is similar to its bigger cousin the XB41 but in a smaller form factor. Of course the sound isn't as good but its more portable and has the same features. I also find this to be slightly better then the previous model last year. This connects through bluetooth with any mobile device and also can use NFC if you phone can support it. Also can use the app which can change the EQ to have more or less bass treble and etc. You can also connect it with another speaker to make stereo sound as well. What I do like the most is that Sony added a Micro USB port to charge it now along with the AC adapter.

Doesn't hold a charge for long. Difficult to charge! Not sure if it's ever fully charged!

The sound quality was good, very practical and portable, but the battery life was awful.

This speaker out performs my JBL Flip 2 and the Beats Pill in sound loudness, deep bass, and battery life. The loudness is so loud that I think I can use it outside for party. I would say that the sound quality is on par with the JBL and Beats. However, the deep bass on certain songs make this speaker stand-out. The battery life is 12 hours leaving my mind to not worry about recharging. The speaker can link up to 100 speakers to create a true surround sound, I think I will buy another speaker to test this feature. I think that this speaker would make a perfect gift too.

I was very impressed with the quality of the speaker and the overall sound quality. This gets surprisingly good bass for such a small device. The pairing and such just works. There really are no complaints with this one. The battery life is great so far and it has been one of the best bluetooth speakers I have ever had. I really recommend this brand for consumer products as they have put attention to detail and quality. I am interested in seeing how these sound when adding more to the group. I need to get another one to enjoy that feature. You won't be disappointed.

Speaker has good sound but won’t hold a charge the charge cable is not sturdy

It works fine once you figure out how to set it up; but initially it was surprisingly very difficult to set up.

The speaker sounds excellent but the battery is short lived. It lasts a few hours then switches to half volume.

The quality of the sound is good but the battery only work 5 to 6 hrs that why I do not liked to much.

It sounds ok not tremendous. I just needed a temporary monitor speaker while primary system is in storage.

Battery life sucks. Dies within 2 hours. Would never buy another.

Connection is great, information says “8 hour battery life” what they don’t tell you is after almost 2 hours, the battery drops to 50 percent, when that happens, the volume drops automatically way down to where it is almost a whisper level. Kind of regret buying this.

The sound quality is good and not very loud. There is an even bass, mids, and highs. You definitely want to install the Sony app for your phone before you connect via Bluetooth. One thing I really like is that the app allows you to add up to 100 speakers. I've tried this but could only get the xb41 to connect. I tried a JBL, a Bose, and a Sony sound bar built last year. So the app is limited in that regard. I would like it better if I could add any Bluetooth speaker to the party. It's still a good speaker however with good sound quality.

I actually returned this. I found others that sounded better for the same price. Just my opinion

The charge is supposed to be 12 hours of listening time but it is less than half that. This is the only issue i have had with the product the sound is terrific. Love the sound.

Great sound , lucky if I got 4 hrs , lights unnecessary

Assuming if I No longer own product - I may have found a better device

I bought this because of the Sony name. After 2 days of use it began to disconnect form my iPhone. I would be working in the garden. The iPhone and the speaker were within the required distance. It would be playing nicely then for no appearant reason it would disconnect. I returned it and bought a Wonderboom.
