Excellent
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is really nice, easy pairing, great Sony sound and experience. Tons of features, even though something Google or Alexa integration would have put it over the top.

Worthless Lights
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this is a good sounding durable speaker. My problem with it is that the lights are pretty lame compared to the higher models. They might as well of kept them off of it. There are two lights that strobe white and that's it. The design makes it look like a strip of lights which would of been way better. Also the speaker in covered in fabric that makes drying the speaker off harder. I do like that it floats with the speakers up for listening in a pool or bathtub. Party Mode is a novelty but kind of fun especially for kids.

Not for me
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had really mixed feelings about this BT speaker. (+) The speaker itself is pretty good, Feels nice and sturdy, like you can take it where ever you want and it will reliably perform. I spent the weekend with it in the woodshop and felt as good about it as I do construction radios, with the benefit of not wasting a 21V on music. (+) The idea of being able to add a bunch of these to a Sony Music Center app and linking them so you're whole party is synced. I only have one so I can't comment on how well it worked or the range. The literature from Sony says you can connect 100, but I wonder if you can have them on the front porch, by the pool, under the pergola, in the living room and they all are still in sync to the same source or not. (-) Overall the bass is a little heavy and I was dissappointed to find out that I couldn't modify the balance in the Sony Music Center when I downloaded that app. (-) It feels like most speakers that are in this price range ($90 - $150) that are being released have Alexa/Google Assistance/etc. integration which, while not something I'm in too, seems odd to be lacking. (-) I've charged it once, and it took much longer than I expected. My wireless headphone and computer peripherals all charge in around an hour and in the case of headphones, are good for 16 hours afterwards. I didn't time it, but it took at least twice as long for this speaker to charge. (-) The biggest draw back for me was the gimmicky part. I didn't care for either the strobe light effect or the "Party Booster" feature. Party Booster in particular reeks of a gimmick that your friends will use once and then the feature will be completely forgotten. Fortunately you don't HAVE to use either of these and it functions fine without them. Overall my verdict is that this is a very good party speaker that you can take with you to tailgates, the beach, working in your garage, the lakehouse, etc. Its just not the best on the market in the price range.

Good speaker, with gimmicks
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At the end of the day this is as good as any speaker its size. The gimmick of "party mode" and the "lights that beat to the music" are just that. The lights don't sense a true music beat so they're barely purposeful. I didn't get a chance to play with the 'party mode' as I only have one, but fail to see a real use case for this - you're going to have 20 friends all with this same exact speaker gather together? Chances are slim. Pairing was easy, battery life also good.

Just ok
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice sound and great for beach and pool. The 41 is the better model. It is still a great speaker but nothing others do not have except the look is premium.

Being Generous @ 3 Stars...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This BT speaker is covered in a cloth-like material that gives it a different grip - but I see this as a potential problem down the line with a huge potential to attract & retain grime. Battery time is great if you don't play it loud the entire time and disable the lighting and the extra sound modes. Using those features - the battery is about average, Even though this speaker comes with a whole lot of various printed materials in the box, almost an excessive amount considering the times, the included 'quick start' operational instructions are absolutely horrendous. Ultimately you will need to go to Sony online to find clear instructions on how to use the Party mode (tap on unit for sounds) feature or to even do something that should be very simple - like using the NFC pairing mode - to name a few. From a purely sound reproduction point-of-view, I am comparing this unit to a XB20 - which we love - and in comparison, this design sounds worse and with the inclusion of the awful cloth-like covering, this is a speaker product I simply cannot recommend. The one good thing I will note on this model is the voice prompted battery level. That's cool.

Fun speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great sounding speaker and fun to have. I love that it has an option to use a cord if you use a non Bluetooth device. Light effects are fun but limited to one color. Sound is pretty good for what’s available in this price range. One fun factor is that it has 6 sides you can hit to create sounds. And if you download the app you can customize those sounds. They are also sensitive so if you hit lightly the sound won’t be as loud. Great fun to have.

Great sound, terrible app experience
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I actually have a different color of this one, also. So you may see this review twice. The speaker is a great size for easy mobility, use a USB cable (included) to charge, and offers the ability to group with another XB21 or XB41 speaker. The charging cable is just that, a cable. You'll need your own USB hub or adapter to charge it from a wall outlet, which can be a bit annoying. However, given the need to charge everything via USB, makes these dongles a common place at home. My only really issue was with the app. I wrote this on a review for the XB41, as well. I found that the app would very frequently go into "Needs Setup" with the paired speaker. This caused you to have to turn off/on bluetooth or re-pair the speaker to use any of the features within the app. The grouping was also very broken. I would often find myself creating a group, only for the speakers to go back into setup required. From time to time, the speaker's bluetooth light would be flashing quickly, but still playing music from my phone. Outside of those small quirks, it's a great speaker, that you can take to the pool, the beach, your shower, and even for your backyard while you star gaze. I was really impressed with the larger than life sound that was delivered. However, if you want a better bass response, and can afford to, I'd go for the bigger XB41 instead.

Sony is Sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Growing up we all knew so need to be the stereo to have, it still is this little itty bitty thing packs probably the meanest punch I've ever seen a portable Bluetooth speaker pack and then come to find out you can buy a second one and Link them together I'm not necessarily trying to get thrown out of here but if I want to I can. Trying to stand too close you won't be able to hear yourself think. This thing is true amazing awesome sound.

Small, Powerfull, Quality, just a bit short
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So this is my second Sony Bluetooth speaker. The quality of this series, is just amazing.... these are NOT your average, dollar store speakers. Visually appealing, the covers, and connectors, buttons... all top notch... You may not think that is important, but after a while you will see a difference. Very cool feature, now that I can try it out... the linking of speakers... I now have TWO speakers, linked together, playing audio from one source. This opens so many options. I am planning to even use these for a presentation from my laptop... no need for the big booster amp system. The ONLY downside for this one, even though it has BASS emphasis.. Compared to it's big brother: SRS-XB31, the BASS isn't as noticeable. MUCH better then some of my other Bluetooth speakers, but compared to the SRS-XB31... not as good. So if you can't afford, or don't want the bigger SRX-XB31... this is a GREAT option.
