    Nice little portable speaker

The XB21, smallest of the XB series portable speakers by Sony, provides very powerful sound with its 42mm drivers and built in subwoofer for the Extra Bass. The XB21 is very easy to pair with utilizing NFC connectivity to automatically establish a bluetooth connection that will reach a little over 30ft. This device reaches it's full potential when used with Sony's Music Center app, where you can change your equalizer settings and setup playlists through different music apps you have on your device. The built in light bars are disappointing compared to the larger versions in the XB series, as the XB21 has only two white led lights, compared to the full color bars of its larger counter parts. Also the "party booster" effect is very gimmicky and somewhat difficult to enable. All in all, this is a nice option for the sub $100 range portable bluetooth speaker.

This thing is really nice, easy pairing, great Sony sound and experience. Tons of features, even though something Google or Alexa integration would have put it over the top.

I got two (2) of these to connect to my Sony TV. My TV is set high on the wall, and volume control was difficult. Too low and I could not hear the dialogue. If I could hear the dialogue, the action scenes were too loud After combing the Sony site, I figured out how to sync the speaker to the TV using bluetooth, then tethered the speakers Now when I turn on the speakers, the TV auto switches (and back when off) providing clear sound and dialogue without overpowering us The speakers are nice and discrete, great highs and lows and provide plenty of volume to satisfy everyone in the family

Great speaker, just not for me

I don't think I realized the power of this bad boy when I tried it in the store. It was just too much for my living space and for my taste. I'm very sensitive to sound level and the bass was giving me anxiety. I mostly purchased on design and sound quality, but this one just didn't suit my needs. 5 stars for anyone who needs a lot of volume!!

Excellent Choice for a portable speaker.

I went to the store and listened to the sound quality of most of their portable speakers. This was an excellent choice, good sound quality and blue tooth enabled. I love that I can take it from room to room around the house. it fits perfectly under my computer monitor. It was quite easy to set up.

    XB21 is a better value than XB31

If you want a good speaker for a good price, get XB21. If you want something that sounds better, you need to get JBL or Bose. Sony still sounds a bit muddy, but for the price XB21 is really good. Bluetooth connection is excellent, build quality is great.

    Faulty charging port

Received this just two weeks ago as an early Christmas gift. We were headed on a several day road trip to family’s house and I was initially excited by sound quality, etc. After just two weeks, the charging port is failing—the cord piece fits in loosely and I am barely able to get it to charge if I position it at just the right angle. We have not dropped/twisted/otherwise done anything to damage it. Sadly, because I thought it was great when I got it, we no longer have the packaging or receipt. Was also disappointed by the short battery life but figured that was something I could work with. However, the charging port failing makes this a useless piece of junk. Not what I expect from a name brand or at this price

    Totally Underwhelming

Ordered this to replace a smaller "utility" speaker. Based on my experience with Sony audio products and on the product reviews I was expecting a bit more. Bass is weak, high end treble is too. The volume range is good at least, and the ability to chain speakers would be useful, thus 2 stars and not 1. Maybe if you're used to really bad bluetooth speakers, this speaker might seem pretty good, but I know Sony can do better. I have a larger Aiwa bluetooth speaker that puts this one to shame. Even on sale this speaker is overpriced. I'll be returning it.

Horrible battery life and defective product.

Bought my Sony speaker about three months ago and the battery life is absolutely terrible. The so called 12 hour battery only lasts 2 hours max and then the unit is completely useless. Speaker shuts down to the point you can't hear it, then when you charge it and play it at the same time you still can't turn the volume up. Tried to turn off the light and the light wouldn't turn off which drained my battery even quicker. Not to mention best buy only gives you a 15 day return policy. Now I'm stuck with a terrible product I spent $75 on. Horrible product and horrible customer service from Best buy!!!

Too much bass-muddy sound. Also prefer wired type.

These speaker have too much bass for me; they produce a muddy sound which obscures detail/clarity. Also, I find that the flashing lights are distracting; fortunately they can be turned off. This was my first time using a wireless speaker, and I realize that when using a wireless speaker, the laptop's speakers do not work, but when I use a wired speaker, my laptop's speakers still sound along with the external speaker, giving a fuller sound. So I'll be returning this speaker and getting a wired type with a little less bass.
