I bought this for my golf cart. Works great and the Bluetooth is an easy set up. Only draw back is it could be a bit louder but that's only when I use it riding. If you use it in a stationary setting it will do just fine.

It's not a Bose but I can say it's not too far off either. For the price, this speaker puts out some pretty good sound for what I needed it for, which is listening to my music while I work in the garage.

Setting up the Bluetooth was a snap and linking additional speakers is just as easy. Sound is about a 9/10...would’ve expected a little better from Sony, but it’s still pretty good.

It's a good speaker I bought it 2 months ago and so far so good. I was in between this and other more expensive speakers. For the price I decided to buy this and I'm happy with it.

Sounds really good. Unfortunately, sometimes it doesn't connect right away. And there are delays sometimes as well. And when the battery is low, the sound love gets low. Can't seems to bring it back after that.

When it works it is awesome, but there are times it plays no sound and you have to restart your laptop before it recognizes the speaker. Happens at least once a week so it only gets 4 stars.

The Sony XB22 Extra Bass Speaker has good sound quality and also has a few interesting party tricks: you can tap it to produce various sounds, you can set it to have lights that flash with the music, and you can sync it with up to 99 more Sony XB speakers so everyone can hear the music. If the idea of tapping the speaker to make various percussion sounds doesn’t sound all that useful to you, you’d be right. But it can be a little bit fun. It works best if you hold the speaker in one hand and tap with the other. It's small enough that it doesn't stay still if you smack it while it sits on a table. For those interested, you use the Sony connected app to select how the sounds work. You also get a ring of light around the grill and two mini-strobes that all flash in rhythm. Again, not all that useful, but it adds a touch of fun, and it can be customized or turned off with the app. Another positive feature is that you can pair up to 100 of these speakers together to create what Sony calls a “party chain.” The lights in each speaker of the chain will operate in unison, which would probably be pretty cool if you chain a number of them together, although I doubt anyone will string 100 of them together any time soon. But we have this one and two larger once we can sync together for fun. But those lights and sounds are just party tricks. The real trick with this speaker is how rich the soundfield is and how deep the bass is. For a speaker this size, this little guy really does sound amazingly good. It is also nice to be able to play music from multiple portable speakers in a large area. We tried a variety of types of music, and the little XB22 handled them all with ease, returning a depth of sound that you just don’t expect from such small speakers. Sony has done a terrific job with their LIVE SOUND mode. The footpads for this speaker are robust, which seems odd to say about a small speaker. They are sort of oversized, rounded, rubber knobs and do a great job of providing stability as the XB22 kicks out sound. I would think these footpads would do an excellent job in most situations, and they certainly give the speaker a more solid base than many of tiny feet most speakers seem to have. The XB22 can also stand vertically, if you prefer. In terms of other features, battery life is very good at 12 hours. And the XB22 carries an IP67 waterproof rating (Sony also says it is dustproof and rustproof). It natively communicates via BT 4.2 and also includes NFC pairing. I would have liked to see BT 5.0, but 4.2 isn’t bad. The fact is, most devices you’ll use it with don’t have BT 5.0, either. My only complaint is that the sound starts to degrade at higher volumes. The little speakers in this guy just can't quite keep up at higher volumes. But, overall, this is one rocking little speaker. Plus, the party tricks might be fun for students, and syncing a number of the XB speakers together is easy and makes for a great, immersive musical experience. And since sound quality is the main thing for a speaker, the XB22 is a real winner.

The sound from the speaker is clear and deep and everything we had hoped for. However, the lights are very distracting, especially at night. We will exchange for the version without lights.

Wide, Immersive Sound from a Small Speaker

The Sony SRS-XB22 is the next generation in their line of various-sized, portable Bluetooth speakers, pumping out a great range of sound in a very small package. The SRS-XB22 is the smallest, most portable speaker in this line. Starting with the sound quality, it’s clear and bold. Bass is strong for a speaker in this size, controllable to a certain extent using the app (which still needs a lot of work, in my opinion). The option to toggle a “Live” mode is available with a single button, which works better when listening to concerts performed live, but even those I still prefer to play without the live mode on. Sound is expansive in terms of coverage range, and the best way I can describe this is that I have multiple speakers in my home. When I was playing music from the speaker and standing a few feet away, I thought I actually had synced with another speaker behind me, which I had not. The speaker, despite being only a few inches wide, was pumping out sound that expanded and filled the room, a testament to the quality and placement of the speakers inside of the unit. Very impressive. The speaker has a couple of white LEDs on the face that will blink in sync with the music but found those to be a little annoying after a while, nothing like the lights on the next higher version of this speaker where the lighting is smoother and multi-colored. Additionally, the lights do eat in to the battery life, so if you’re looking to run this for its full 24+ hour published battery life, do yourself a favor and turn the lights off (single button or via the app). The device also features a line-in so you can hard-wire you device or a Chromecast to your unit. The connections on the back are hidden behind a beefy rubber door which helps protect its IP56 waterproof rating. The speaker also features a “party” sync mode where you can link multiple Sony speakers together in a “Party Chain” and play music from one device on multiple speakers. As was the case with the previous generation of the SRS speakers, the syncing process is wonky, requiring that the speaker disconnect from your Bluetooth, then sync between themselves with Bluetooth, after which you’re forced to manually reconnect to the speaker groups with your device’s Bluetooth. It works, but certainly not the easiest thing to do. In my house with the multiple SRSs, I just use Chromecast Audio devices with the line-in feature to link them. It’s easier to manage with the Google app and Chromecast, but obviously if you’re going portable, this isn’t really an option, thus the Party Chain option on the speakers. But the immersive, wide sound of the speaker, combined with the small package and waterproof rating makes this a great speaker whether indoors or out. Well worth the purchase for a device that will go with you in your pocket (well, your cargo shorts pocket).

This device is literally light weight. I haven’t tried out the battery life yet. The sound is clear and packs enough bass for it to be so light.
