I had previously bought a pair of the Sony XB40 speakers which had excellent sound and functionality. I purchased these to provide additional sound output for music during our outdoor wedding. I was a bit disappointed by the sound quality and getting them to sync with the slightly older XB40 speakers was rather a pain. I ended up not using them for the wedding, but they are still decent enough and small enough that they get occasional use.

I really like this speaker! It has a solid feel to it and sounds great. The specks are impressive for a speaker this size as well. The XB22 has dual passive radiators and full-range stereo speakers which gives this speaker a louder and deeper sound overall compared to many Bluetooth speakers that cost more. The XB22 is designed for outdoor use thanks to the same IP67 certification, so you can take it to the beach or out in the yard. You can even wash it if you need to. It offers basic light shows as well, but personally I have little use for that and shut it off to save battery life which Sony claims is up to 12 hours (10 hours in Extra bass mode/lights on). The speaker is designed to stand horizontally or vertically. I find that it sounds better placed horizontally. You can control the speaker with Sony’s Music Center app which allows you to create playlists, control the speaker lights and select different sound modes. I haven’t used the app much other than to switch sound modes. There are a couple of things that bug me about this speaker but are not sound related. The charging cable is only micro USB, not Type-C, it is not very long and there is no charging brick in the box. Fortunately I have lots of spare cables and charging bricks around the house, but if you don’t, this will feel like a fairly big thing to leave out. All in all, in a very competitive Bluetooth speaker market, you should really consider having a look at (or a listen to) the XB22.

The sound is great on this baby, the only issue I had was getting it connected to my phone.
