The sound is great. The battery life however, not so great. Reached out to Sony and they are replacing it. Hopefully the replacement turns out to have a better battery life.

Bluetooth Speakers around this price range have been getting more impressive with their sound output and features they offer. For this year Sony has made some slight improvements from last year model. One of the main improvements this year is the plastic rubber coating finish instead of the knitted look that was all around for last year. The only downside to this material is that if you happen to drop your speaker as I did expect some damage to be done. The area of impact was right by the flap that covers the charging port has some deep scratches but nothing major. The XB22 is drop test certified with no major damage from hitting the concrete of my driveway. The second improvement is the addition of the Live Sound option. The Live Sound setting is supposed to recreate a much wider three-dimensional sound experience. In my experience, the sound sounded lower so I ended up leaving it off for most of the time. As for sound output, it sounds good and loud too. It has some bass to it much more than the UE Boom 3. Even at Max Volume, there was no sound distortion. Overall you should be satisfied with the sound coming out of the XB22. Battery life is rated at 12hrs with the LED’s turned off and volume at 50%. My usage with max volume, LED’s turned off was right around the 6-7hr mark. The speaker is rated IP67 (Dustproof and Waterproof) so if you get caught by some torrential rain or a drop in the pool it should survive. Sony Music Center app provides some additional settings like adjusting the light show and sound adjustments. The preset mode gives you 3 options Standard, Extra Bass, and Live Sound. You can also adjust bass, mid and treble individually for a custom sound experience. For the most part, I left it on the Clear Audio + which is the default setting from out of the box. For the light settings, you can pick from Rave, Chill, and Strobe. The mic performed well on my test call no complaints from the caller. Overall the XB22 is a nice combination of size , battery life, and power output. It's a great value at this price point.

Get this on sale. Worth the buy for around a third the price. Too bulky for what most people need. Sound quality is decent but not great.

This speaker is small and portable, the sound is great, loves that it has a speakerphone as well for phone but that's where the good perks end. The material is nice and soft however it holds dirt, and doesn't wipe off easily, it says 10hours, and barely did 3. For the most part it wasnt worth it. I returned it and got a JBL

Bottom Line: The Sony SRS-XB22 delivers on its promise of being an affordable party speaker, but you might want to buy more than one. Pros: solid audio performance; customizable sound via app; speakerphone capability; design; interesting set of party features Cons: Good but not great bass performance; some party features seem gimmicky especially if you only have one speaker; no voice assistant integration Review: The XB22 is the smallest of Sony’s pill-shaped Xtra Bass (XB) lineup, and it delivers really good sound for its size. I found music playback to be clear and well-balanced in “standard” mode, and “Live Mode” (button activated on top of the unit) really does a good job at providing more of a 360 degree audio experience at the expense of some of the lows. One of my favorite things about Sony audio products is the app. From Music Center, you can activate the Bass Boost pre-set mode, manually adjust the sound in the equalizer, and configure the party options like light sync. The unit also has a built-in mic (and line-in) that can be used to take calls from your phone. Bass performance was decent for a speaker this size, but I wasn’t blown away. There are definitely other options on the market that will deliver more bass heavy sound. Design-wise, the XB22 is a pill-shaped speaker but it can also be stood vertically, which adds some placement versatility. It also boasts IP67 rating, so it’s dust and water proof. Sony markets the XB22 as a party speaker, and those functions are an interesting mix. The light feature that can be synced to the music is a nice touch for listening at night, although it’s limited to a single white color on this unit. You can also easily pair two speakers for stereo sound, which would work well for larger outdoor events. On the other hand, Party Boost, which allows you to tap the speaker in different spots to create drum or percussion effects, is an odd feature. It works well enough, but it seems gimmicky given that I couldn’t see people actually wanting someone to hold the speaker and add their own sound effects to the music at a party. Likewise, Wireless Party Chain (sync up to 100 compatible devices), in theory, seems neat, but once again I’m not sure how practical and useful it is, since you would need to buy or have your guests bring more speakers.

Was a gift for my wife on Christmas , we tried it out and about 10 min in to it, it kept pausing and saying “please charge” so we connected and then 5 min later it wouldn’t play music any louder than my cellphone. No matter how low I leave it connected charging it plays about 15-20 min and ask to Charge and lowers the volume. Really disappointed in it, tried to return and exchange for a jbl$170 dollar one to where I would pay the difference and missed the return window by a couple days. Nothing they could do about it.
