Great Recreational Bluetooth Speaker !
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ironically I just counted up that I currently own 20 Bluetooth speakers! While I can’t listen to all of them at once, I find that each one has unique characteristics that make them suitable for different moods and situations. This Sony XB-23 is no exception. This one is made to go with you! The Sony XB-23 is a sharp looking device with decent sound. Its light weight makes it easy to take along with you. The overall shape is big enough for good sound, yet not too big to make it a pain to pack. SOUND: I’m listening to it while I write this article. At low to moderate volume it has a well balanced mix of highs and lows to sound good. The base can be heard, but it’s not big, solid, or prevalent. As your increase the volume the base fades away as the volume increases. No problem with base distortion at high volume, the base just lowers in relation to the highs. At high volumes the sound is high and shrill with little base and no distortion. Volume level at max is good. I find most people will stand the speaker upright which is the way it is designed. However you can lay it down and let it “roll” back on the strap so that the front speakers radiate toward you. In this position, the highs are more pronounced and the base seems to be a little better. I actually like the sound in that position better. The Sony Music APP allows you to turn the Extra Bass on or off to extend battery life. The ability to choose Stereo/Mono playback is a welcome addition within the app as well as battery level readouts. I actually felt with the speaker lying down there is a difference in sound (more spatial) in Stereo. There is a 3 position equalizer to allow custom changes to you sound. I found the Bass and Middle sliders had effects on the sound. The Treble slider seemed to have little effect. This is where you can adjust the sound to your preferences and is a good feature. OVERALL: It pairs easily and quickly. Bluetooth range is awesome. Outdoors I was able to get uninterrupted music at distances of at least 80 feet between the speaker and my I Phone X. It has great battery life (10-12 hours) and charges quickly (2-3 hours) via the included USB C cable. There is no transformer included, but I’m sure we all have plenty of power blocks sitting around not to mention USB jacks in wall plugs and computers. I like the “toughness” of the case and speaker grill covering. The waterproof and dust proof ratings make it safe to take just about anywhere. Controls on the speaker are on the back, but still convenient to find and use. Battery status is OK. It gives a voice prompt when you press the status button or when the level gets low it will speak to you. These prompts can be turned on/off in the Music App. I tried to party connect to 2 of my other older Sony speakers with no success. I guess they need to be newer or of the same model as this speaker for that function. CONCLUSION: Great portable speaker for recreational needs. Good sound, good battery life, durable, waterproof, lightweight, and pairs easily with great Bluetooth range. Its handy, and I like it. However, if you are a base freak, then spend a little more and consider the Sony XB33.

The look of it is super simple. Just didnt give it the full 5 because compared to my bose speaker this is second at best but it amazing for a portable speaker
