Surprisingly, this speaker is only a little taller than a 16oz can of your favorite energy drink, and slightly wider. It should definitely fit in your car's cup holders, or any lounge chair's cup holders as well. The speaker comes attached with a cord that can be easily wrapped around any bar, cord, or rope that is less than 1.5" in diameter, if you prefer to place the speaker somewhere higher.   The small portable design hasn't stopped this speaker from putting out a big performance. The speaker gets so loud, that I personally haven't wanted to crank it up past 85% max volume, because my ears start to hurt at that level. The mids and highs come through very clearly, The bass can be heard with the normal setting, but sounds much better after installing the Sony Music Center app to your phone, to take advantage of the extra bass feature, and EQ settings. The SRS-XB23 has a bass speaker at each end of the device. You can feel the vibration and air movement when placing your hand near either end of the speaker. With that said, keep in mind that this is a small portable speaker, and It does put out a sound that seems like it is coming from a larger device, but do not expect the bass to shake your windows or floor boards. For the size and portability it puts out a great sound, very clear audio with adequate bass to enjoy any kind of music. The hands free call feature works great as well, I could not believe how clear the call was, it was way better than trying to use the speakerphone feature on my phone, or even the bluetooth hands free in my car. I often find myself close to maxing out the audio in my car to hear every word the caller is saying. But that is not the case with this Sony speaker. I could hear every syllable loud and clear at a normal volume setting, plus the caller couldn't tell the difference between the sound of my voice, going through the phone mic, or the speaker's mic.( that was nice and clear as well) As with most of Sony's speakers, this comes with "Party Connect", where you can link up to 100 speakers wirelessly, for one awesome party. It is actually pretty easy to use, all you have to do is press the "party" button on the main speaker, and then the "party" button on the next speaker to connect, and that's it. (although each new connection needs to be done in less than 1 minute). This speaker also has an "ST Pair" button, which is kinda similar to the party mode, except this feature only pairs two speakers together to create a Stereo sound system, so that left and right audio effects can be heard as intended.  The other impressive feature of this speaker is that it is extremely durable. I dropped it from waist level onto a hardwood floor, with no effect to the speaker. It is advertised to be able to handle common accidents from everyday use. ( So far so good ) . The speaker is also rated IP67 for waterproof accidents too. The enclosed design also ensures dustproof, and even rustproof operation as well. Which means that it should be a breeze to clean, and even more impressive, is being able to use this speaker at the ocean beaches, or on a boat, without worrying about the salt air ruining your speaker.This really is a portable speaker you can take anywhere, without worry,.. oops, it fell in the mud,.. oops it got buried in the sand,... oops, high tide came in,.., oops, it fell in the water... all no problem with the SRS-XB23 ! I can't wait to take this on my next fishing trip, especially with the long battery life (10 to 12 hours). We can stay out all day with this speaker! Overall, I am very impressed with the sound quality produced by such a portable speaker, and relieved to know I will not have to waste time worrying about anything happening to my speaker while trying to have fun. 

Amazing sound and easy-to-setup bluetooth connections. This is a terrific speaker for an amazingly low price. This Sony speaker has so much depth and puts out a LOT of sound. Love it!

Got this for my dad, for his birthday. It was a big hit. The sound is loud and clear, and I wanted to make sure it was a good speaker to take to the beach since we go every year.

Great big sound in a little package! Nice clear, crisp sound. We use 2 of these outside around our hot tub. They have gotten wet and been dropped and still look and work great.

Bought this for my wife's job. easy to pair with both android and iphone. She works in an professional work eviroment , so the unit needed to fit in and not take very mutch space on her desk. this fit in well . the only thing is you have to be carefull with the volume

The Sony SRS-XB23 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a great addition for any music-lover who wants to hit the road…or trail! In typical Sony fashion, the build and overall quality of this speaker is top-notch. In the box is the speaker, a USB-C charge cable and user manual. So glad to see more companies using the USB-C standard, it helps cut down on all the different cords needed when traveling. The controls are located on the back and include: power, BT pairing, play/pause, volume up/down, battery level audio check, party connect and stereo connect. Below the controls is a nicely concealed USB-C charging slot. There’s also a strap/hook for hanging or mounting the speaker off the ground. Set up was very straight forward, out of the box the speaker was charged about 50%, so I plugged it in and then connected it to my iPhone. This took all of 30 seconds, it doesn’t get much easier. Sony Music Center was already installed so setting up the speaker and adjusting sound is a breeze. I typically use the “auto” feature for sound adjustment. There’s also a control for the “extra bass” feature…this selection is pretty self-explanatory and is certainly noticeable. For a small speaker, it packs a great bass sound with extra bass turned on. I tried using it standing, in a cup holder, laying on its side, etc. and to me it sounded the best on its side. This speaker is not going to rattle windows, but it is more than adequate for the deck, boat, campsite, etc. It happened to rain today, so I left it out on the deck and it showed no ill effects of getting drenched! Battery life is great, I’ve been running is for almost a week now for an hour here and there and it still has 50% battery life. It should meet or exceed the 12 hour battery life claimed by Sony. Pros: - Sony top-notch build and sound quality - Easy to setup and use - Waterproof/outdoor design - Extra Bass for a deep, rich sound from a fairly small speaker - Phone call support Cons: - Music does not come back on after hanging up a phone call. (need to hit play/pause on phone to restart) Overall the SRS-XB23 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a very function-rich and great sounding “go anywhere” speaker.

Bought this for my son for Christmas for his workouts. He absolutely loves it. The quality is awesome and he gets lost in his workout with extremely high quality music.

I was very disappointed in the sound level. Its not that it sounded bad, it just wasnt good enough for most of the music i listen to. I listen to every genre of music and any song that you need to hear bass to feel the music was a complete fail with this unit. I tried this in the cab of my work truck, while parked, not driving and the bass was lacking so much i thought some songs where remixed.. That being said, it sounds nice for podcasts and not too bad for for classical music. You can turn it up to max volume and be wanting more. For the price, i have heard worse. It is a nice design and would be good for a kids room.

I'm using this at school to help my music students listen to demos that I've made on my iPhone. It's awesome! The bluetooth connected easily to my phone and my laptop.

Great sound!!!! Disco like entertainment! It’s so powerful that when I’m downstairs, I hear the music upstairs. The best sounding speakers. Will highly recommend it!

My wife and I used the speaker on the beach. We were able to sync the speaker to our phone easily and enjoy our music.

Packs a great punch for how tiny it is. Don't rely on this as a big speaker. Just enough for a day at the beach or for getting ready in the morning.

These speakers are great. We’ve used them on an outside TV as well as we taken them with us on camping trips. They’re great for playing music and easy to use.

I bought this to pair with my Sony record player. It has incredible sound, and I can place it way across the room without any problems connecting. Definitely a good buy!

When I first received the product in the mail and opened it, I was a bit apprehensive. I believe a lot can be said by how much attention is paid to packaging by the manufacturer. Unfortunately, Sony paid little mind to this issue, so the first impression I got was "cheap". As I unwrapped everything, I was once again faced with a bit of apprehension as the speaker itself is quite light, and just doesn't feel "substantial". As I looked it over, however, I began to notice that what they may have lacked in the packaging department, they were more than making up for in the construction department. From top to bottom, the Sony SRS XB23 exhibits a design that is intuitive, well laid out, and very well constructed. The controls are down the side of the speaker and are clearly visible while at the same time maintaining a perfect sense of aesthetic pleasantness. The speaker came with over 50% charge, so it was ready to use right out of the box. I have two iPhones, and it paired effortlessly with both of them. I was also able to easily pair it with both my Amazon Echo products.. But the real test, the sound... After pairing it with my phone, I began to pick out different types of music to listen to on the Sony. I have to be honest, I was blown away by the sound!! The highs and lows were clear, crisp, and did not distort at even the highest volume. The extra bass feature really added to the experience. There is an app you can download that I strongly recommend you get, the Sony Music Center (SongPal). It allows you to control the speaker from your phone. This way you can easily activate the stereo or mono mode. It is designed to revert back to mono if the unit is standing up. It's a great little app. I was ecstatic about it being dust and water-proof. I'm not one to tempt fate, but I decided I had to know for sure it really was waterproof. I wasn't worried about ruining it because I knew the warranty would have to be honored, lol. I put it under the sprinkler for over five minutes. I gave it a good shake to get rid of all the excess water, and then turned it on. To my pleasant astonishment, the speaker worked perfectly. And in a relatively short time, it was completely dry. This feature alone makes the Sony XB23 worth the cost. Back to the sound. Although it would be unfair to try and compare this speaker with some of the higher-end speakers on the market, I believe this speaker outdoes every other speaker in its particular class. You can't ask for better sound, and the volume range is much greater than you would expect. If I had ten of these and linked them together, the neighbors would be calling the cops because of the noise! Yes! You can link these speakers with other Sony XB23s, and place each speaker strategically to offer up a great sound at your next party or get together. This is a speaker I plan on using a lot, especially in the more "hostile" environments. This is a must have for anyone who wants a great outdoor speaker!

Love this speaker. Pretty decent sound quality, has a nice pairing function with another speaker. App is lacking, but works well enough.
