To get the most out of the volume, please try the different sound modes found in the Sony Music Center app, until you find the one you like for outdoor settings. There is even an EQ in there. To get the sound that you prefer, download the Sony Music Center app, and you can actually fine tune the sound of your XB23 to your liking. There is a built in EQ that has 20 points of control for Bass, Midrange, and Treble. You can also change the speaker set up from Mono to Stereo to suit your needs. Also, try playing another source on the device. For example, try another music app to see if the issue is with a particular app.

That's awesome! The SRS-XB23 has undergone extensive shock testing to make sure it can withstand the inevitable knocks, bumps and scrapes that come with everyday use.
