Amazing speaker

Our sound system is down and if positioned correctly it can fill the whole lobby with music which is very nice to be able to have music while working.

12 hours: Volume level of the unit set to 34, the sound mode set to STAMINA.
10 hours: Volume level of the unit set to 31 and with the factory default settings (sound mode: EXTRA BASS).
3 hours: Volume level of the unit set to maximum and with the factory default settings (sound mode: EXTRA BASS).

Deep base, Rich sound the perfect Summer Speaker

First, I am thrilled to see that Sony now uses USB C to recharge the speaker. This is a first (that I have seen) for Sony. But enough about USB C. How does it sound? I tested using Spotify and my own owned library of Apple Music on my phone. Audio quality is impressive. Deep bass and good bright tones. The Sony XB23 is the first speaker that I have used that makes me realize the different streaming services actually have very different sound quality. Which is not something I noticed before using the XB23. Despite being 8.5" high and 3" in diameter, it's a lightweight speaker but still feels well built and solid. I also like the styling, so it won't look out of place during a summer BBQ. Actually, weird FYI but it's the right size and height to fit in a cup holder, which is cool. According to the specs, the XB23 is rated IP67 which in English means the rubber connectors that cover USB C port, as well as the buttons, are protected from dust and capable of withstanding water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. If you're into tweaking your sound via equalizer settings the free Sony Music Center App lets you do this. Including turning off Extra Bass if you want to get about 12 hours of playtime (it's rated for 10 hours if Extra Bass is on). Also, just an FYI if you own any Sony product I recommend the Sony Support app which helps you track firmware updates, warranty updates, etc. You don't need the latter for the XB23 but it's a good life hack. Finally, on the bass. It's kind of cool to feel the bass diaphragm vibrate on each side of the speaker on when you're playing a track with solid bass. Would I recommend the Sony XB23? Yes!

This was purchased so that we could listen to our music outside on the patio without the installation of wired speakers. For that, it does a great job. My only caution deals with volume. Don't push the volume to it's limits. If you do, the sound will not be crisp.
