Light but sturdy portable bluetooth speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to get a portable bluetooth speaker because I have an older truck and didn't want to invest in a new car stereo. With the speaker, if I'm going to be in the truck for a while, I can use my phone (or other device) to stream music to the speaker. The sound quality is very good. The speaker seems to hold a charge for quite a while, plus you can always plug it into your charging port in the car if it gets low. If you push the "BATT" button on the speaker, the speaker will tell you what the power level is. Setup is very easy, just download the Sony Music Center app, pair your device via bluetooth and you're good to go. You can either use music on your device or whatever music service you have. Another bonus is that it's waterproof and lighter than I expected. Though it's light, it doesn't feel cheap or fragile. Good to know that if I spill a beverage around it, it won't kill it. Speaking of beverages, the speaker is designed to fit in most standard cup holders, so you can stand it upright. All in all, it's exactly what I expect from Sony, a quality product.

I’ve been streaming to it every day for 12-13 hours. There’s an accompanying smartphone app which lets you integrate with other popular streaming apps like Spotify, TuneIn, Netflix, YouTube, etc. There’s a button for party mode (I don’t have a second speaker to pair it with, but imagine that it works much like Bose party mode or Apple’s stereo mode.) The speaker charges via USB-C and the charging port is sealed with a rubber port plug to keep dust and water out. The operation buttons are placed along the length of the speaker and have discrete indicator lights to show when the battery is low, when it’s playing or when it’s in pairing mode. The speaker includes a wrist strap, fits in most cupholders, and is easy to grip with 1 hand. This has better bass and a more rugged build than similar speakers in the category. I own a few Bluetooth speakers and this speaker can compete with others that are twice the price.

Cute color but Ultimate Ears is better

The bass feature seems like it would have a lot of vibration noises. And honestly I wasn’t confident with it so I returned for an Ultimate Ears one. The prices are similar and the Ultimate Ears one is great quality.

There is also a small ridge on the charging port that helps it stay put and you can also place the carrying strap underneath for more stability.
We regret to hear that the speaker had to be returned. We hope you will consider Sony again in a future purchase.
