Awesome Speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a similar, older model bluetooth speaker, and this one just knocks it out of the water. Sound quality is beyond what I expected, especially the bass notes. And for such a small device, it seemed to put out surround quality sound as well. Pairing is beyond easy (used with android device). I feel like I may have actually gotten more than the listed 12-hours out of a single charge, but I didn't actually have a timer running, so it could just be a perception thing. The only major downside I can really say I had with it was range to device. I had my phone in my pocket and was maybe 15 feet away and it disconnected. I couldn't locate any specific volume settings, but while my media played loud and clear, I barely heard notifications come through. As I said, though, there may be a setting for specific volume types that I was just unable to find. Overall, absolutely awesome piece of tech.

Hmmmm Sony. Not worth a 100$

Bass sounded like cheap car speaker bass. Sound vocals were really muffled. Design is why I gave three stars.

Excellent sound. A little bulky
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This Sony SRS-XB23 has very good sound at all ranges, and plenty of volume. The bass stands out the most. I also have a smaller (about ⅓ the size) SRS-XB12, and surprisingly, the sound on the two units is very close, with the XB23 winning just a little despite its much taller form factor. I like that you can pairSRS speakers into party mode (to distribute sound with other SRS speakers), or pair them into stereo mode. The former (party mode) is great for have safe, indestructible sound in a large area. The XB23 is missing an audio-in jack port, however, which I actually like to have so I can more reliably connect it to a laptop for presentations. The XB12 has that port, so I will continue to use it for that purpose. Charging is via USB-C. The unit has lasted me several days of an hour or so use during workouts, so battery life is excellent. I also use it around the backyard and while doing gardening. For hikes, camping, and travel, I still bring the smaller XB12 since it is just so easy to pack and hang from a backpack. Still, the XB23 is an excellent speaker with great depth and volume. And the fact that it is made to withstand rough treatment in the outdoors makes it a buy for around the house and for parties.

That being said the XB23 also gets very loud for its size and audio precision.
We want to make sure you are getting the most out of your speaker. Please make sure you have downloaded the Sony Music Center app. There you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune your XB23 and maximize the volume to your liking. There is even an EQ.
Please make sure you fully charge the speaker, especially after it has gone below 10%, and hit the auto volume limiter (designed to keep your speaker safe).
Then Increase the volume level of the wireless speaker and source devices.
You may also find different devices will perform better than others, as will different apps due to different types of audio compression and transmission.

Sounds great but..

Unfortunately, it doesn’t connect to my MacBook Pro most of the time which is frustrating. I would reset both machines and still nothing. If I would’ve known this would happen, I wouldn’t have bought it.

Delete the Bluetooth device information of your playback device. If the speaker type isn’t listed in the Bluetooth device information on the playback device, initialize the speaker then connect your speaker with the MacBook Pro through the Bluetooth function.

It's more of an insipid sound, not too loud which would ideal for those. I'll be returning soon.

Lots of sound for a small package

Pairs easily, has great range, excellent sound especially if you place it in a corner where it can reflect the sound out. Nice that it has USB-C charging and it also announces what state of charge is in the battery when you turn it on. I have had it running for 4 hours and it still has 50% charge left. Comes with a removeable tether strap if you want to carry it or hang it. It is supposed to be waterproof but I have not tried submerging it. I am a firm believer that electronics and water don't mix. Nice rubberized coating makes it easy to grip. Overall very satisfied and would recommend.

Really Good BT Speaker

Though somewhat larger in size than my other bt speakers, the sound it produces far exceeds those others as well. It has good depth and fullness through it's wide frequency response range with very good detail. Voices are presented clearly and natural sounding as are musical instruments. It can also reach impressive (deafening) volume levels while doing all of that for 12 hours on a full charge. Although I did not try this, it has the capability to link to multiple other BT speakers in a 'party mode'. I really enjoy listening to it and highly recommend it.

I purchased this speaker to pair with my laptop and projector for training sessions and expected the same quality of sound out of this Sony as I'd expect out of my JBL or UE and was definitely disappointed. Even though this speaker is touted as having base it doesn't. It is a very flat sound and not nearly as loud as my smaller JBL. Heading back to bestbuy now to return it.

Decent sound

I like the cord to hang it; I hung it up on a beam in my gazebo in my backyard. The pairing process was super simple and quick with my iPhone. It only took about an hour to fully charge from the box. I put on a 4 hour playlist and has no issues with the battery dying. I left the speaker outside by mistake and it rained that evening. The next morning I went out and tested it to see if it still worked and there were no issues. The only reason I did not give a 5 star review is because I was not at all convinced that this speaker has “extra bass” capability. I compared it to a Bose Bluetooth speaker that I already own and the comparison was not even close. I like the fact that it’s durable and waterproof for outdoor use so I will keep it as my speaker for my gazebo.

Great Travel Speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was skeptical at first about this speaker, but as soon as I opened the box my mind was changed. The overall build quality is actually quite good. They have even though of the fact that you are probably going to set it on a table someplace and designed it in such a way that even though there is a bass port on the bottom it's not obstructed when sitting on a table. The bottom while looking the same as the rest of the speaker is actually a rubbery coated surface to keep the speaker nice and stable so it does not slide around or anything. The speaker grill is a fabric-like material that makes it comfortable to hold if that's your kind of jam session as well. Overall the build and finish of the speaker is great and much better than I expected. Now for sound, look let's be honest you are not going to win any awards with this speaker and I don't really think that is the market it's meant for anyway. But if you just need a portable speaker to toss around the house or the back yard or even the beach I think the sound is good enough that most people will not care. At very loud volumes it might be just a little muddy sound wise but overall at normal listening levels, it is actually not too bad. My only complaint would be that the bass is a little muddy but that could also depend on what you are listening too as well. Also, the sound will sound slightly different depending on what you have the speaker set on, for example I have a soft mat on my desk and the sound gets a little muddy if I set it on the mat but if I set it on a hard surface it sounds better. One design choice I really like is the integrated strap that can be used to hang the speaker from a bar or something, it works great and it has come in handy already just hanging it up if you don't have a surface to set it on.

To return I thought at least 30 days would be sufficient not two weeks and I bought a second one is my second Sony and they both have the same problem they don't sound good at all they don't sound good they turn on and they just don't sound good I want to return it but I did not know that has a short two-week. And I can't return it I'm stuck with two of them now I don't know what to do with them they're brand new and they don't work they don't work right they don't sound good I hate to say it but they do not sound good and I want to return them both I could not return them or the second one I can return it cuz I thought it was only a two-week. I thought at least 30 days so I'm stuck with two of them I'm sorry to say this soni's speaker are are not good at all they don't they tend to squeak the speakers they do not sound good when you turn them up I don't know what's wrong with them but I'm sorry to say they're not good please try to help me return them both if possible like I said 2 weeks. Is not enough time I stayed three days and I'm stuck with him now9

You can use the sound effect function of the speaker to enjoy added bass quality (EXTRA BASS). Press and hold the BATT (battery)/STAMINA button for about 3 seconds. If the indicator is orange, the speaker is in STAMINA mode (power saving). If it's off, the unit is in EXTRA BASS mode. You can also use the Sony Music Center app to select a particular sound effect.
