The SRSXB23 is specifically designed for audio clarity throughout its volume range. This is something our music-loving customers appreciate most. That being said the SRSXB23 also gets very loud for its size and audio precision.
We want to make sure you are getting the most out of your speaker. Please make sure you have downloaded the Sony Music Center app. There you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune your [model number] and maximize the volume to your liking. There is even an EQ.
Please make sure you fully charge the speaker, especially after it has gone below 10%, and hit the auto volume limiter (designed to keep your speaker safe). Then Increase the volume level of the wireless speaker and source devices.
You may also find different devices will perform better than others, as will different apps due to different types of audio compression and transmission. Far and away the BEST portable Bluetooth
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm rarely this excited to write a review of a product but in all honestly, I can't even remember the last time I've been so completely impressed by a product in the consumer electronics space as I am with this Sony portable speaker. The Sony SRS-XB23 is just simply an absolute home run all the way around. The first thing you notice about it when you remove it from the packaging is just how incredibly solid and well-made it feels in your hand. Long before you ever play your first song through it, you already know the quality of materials and craftsmanship that went into its construction. The second thing you'll notice is the expert design work that went into it. This is a speaker that retails for approximately $100, but the second you hold it in your hand for the first time it FEELS like something that you could have easily paid $300 or more for. It's just that substantial and impressive. My advice for any new buyers of this product would be to install the Sony Music Center App on your phone before first pairing up the device. Why? Because I did that and when I first powered mine on it not only went into pairing mode on its own, the Music Center app (which must have had a service running in the background on my Android 10 phone) saw that a Sony speaker was in the area and available to be paired with all on its own (without me even launching the app) and popped up a screen offering to pair the SRS-XB23 with a simple press of one "Pair" button. I pressed in and that's it, I was done. My new speaker was literally ready to play and stream audio to in SECONDS from powering it on - with ONE button press on my phone being all it took and NO effort or work at all on my part. Well, I don't know about you, but there have been plenty of times in the past when trying to figure out how to initiate a pairing sequence on a device has been a fifteen to twenty minute nightmare with some other not so expertly designed devices from other companies. This was mindlessly simple, entirely idiot-proof and FAST. What more could you possibly ask for from a wireless product? Once you have it paired and start streaming music to it, things get even better. The sound quality on this speaker is wonderful. The Music Center app includes a simple, three-band EQ within it that allows you to balance out and shape the sound for just the way you like to listen. Again, I just don't know how you could possibly ask for any more in a $100 portable Bluetooth speaker? My advice: buy one. You simply won't believe how well-built and well-designed this product is. I'm so impressed with it that I'm thinking of buying a second one just to have it (and I don't even need a second one!). Trust me when I tell you, if there was an award given out for the most impressive, inexpensive portable Bluetooth speaker in the $100 price range the SRS-XB23 would win it hands down - and likely be crowned the World Champion of that category. If you are someone that appreciated really good industrial design, craftsmanship and construction in the products you buy then the SRS-XB23 is unquestionably for you. In all reality, this little speaker is every bit as much of a work of art as it is a useful piece of consumer electronics equipment...and it's one that you will unquestionably be VERY happy to own.

We apologize if our SRS-XB23 did not meet your expectations. This is not the experience we want you to have. Please allow us to help you and turn this into a better experience. Bring the BLUETOOTH device closer to the speaker. If there is any obstacle between the speaker and the BLUETOOTH device, move it out of the way. Locate the speaker farther away from a TV, radio or tuner, etc. since noise may occur in broadcasts.
You can enjoy 2 different sound effects. When you purchase the speaker, the EXTRA BASS mode is set.
STAMINA - (EXTRA BASS OFF) - Power saving
EXTRA BASS - (EXTRA BASS ON) (factory default settings) - Heavy bass sound
To switch the sound effect from EXTRA BASS mode to STAMINA mode, press and hold the BATT (battery)/STAMINA button for about 3 seconds.
The STAMINA indicator lights up in orange and the sound effect is switched to STAMINA mode.
Also, you can set the Sound Effect with “Sony | Music Center”. For more details, refer to the link below.

To get the sound that you prefer, please try the different sound modes found in the Sony Music Center app. There is even an EQ in there—which can be customized to fine-tune your music to your liking. If you haven't yet, you can also test this with a different source to confirm the issue.
Depending on the music, the EXTRA BASS effects may not be so noticeable. This is definitely not the experience we want you to have. Let us help and make this a better experience for you. We'd like to troubleshoot and isolate the power-related issue with the unit. Does the power indicator light up when you press the power button on the speaker? If not, connect one end of the supplied USB Type-C cable to the DC IN 5V port on the speaker and the other end to a USB AC adaptor, and then connect the USB AC adaptor to an AC outlet. Make sure that the USB cable is connected securely to the speaker and the USB AC adaptor. If you have a different AC adapter, connect the USB cable to it and check if you can charge your speaker. If you are using a computer to charge, try a different USB port. Check if you can charge a different device using the AC adapter or computer USB port. If the AC adapter or computer USB port can charge other devices and the speaker still does not turn on. The speaker may be malfunctioning.

We'd love to troubleshoot the issue and make this a better experience for you. The communication between the devices will be poor if there is an obstruction between the unit and the connected device. Try the following:
• For crackling/noise in the speaker output: Keep the speaker away from a microwave oven, Wi-Fi®, etc. Bring the BLUETOOTH device closer to the speaker. If there is any obstacle between the speaker and the BLUETOOTH device, move it out of the way.
- Pair the speaker and the BLUETOOTH device again.
- Turn off any nearby electronic devices that may be interfering with the speaker sound.
- When using the Stereo Pair function or Party Connect function, if any other BLUETOOTH device(s) such as a BLUETOOTH mouse or BLUETOOTH keyboard is connected to the BLUETOOTH device, terminate the connection between them.
- Select “Priority on stable connection (SBC)” over sound quality. For details, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the device.
- Install the latest version of “Sony | Music Center” on the connected device. If you cannot use the latest version of “Sony | Music Center” or you cannot connect the speaker and a BLUETOOTH device via BLUETOOTH connection, uninstall “Sony | Music Center” and install it again.

For no sound, no voice or low voice from callers
- Check that both the speaker and the connected device are turned on.
- Turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device.
- Check that the speaker has established BLUETOOTH connection with the BLUETOOTH device.
- Pair the speaker and the BLUETOOTH device again.
- Keep the speaker away from a microwave oven, Wi-Fi, etc.
- Bring the BLUETOOTH device closer to the speaker. If there is any obstacle between the speaker and the BLUETOOTH device, move it out of the way.
- There are some BLUETOOTH devices that can have the wireless playback quality changed. If your device is compatible with this function, select “Priority on stable connection (SBC)” over sound quality. For details, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the device.
- Select “Priority on stable connection (SBC)” for the wireless playback quality of the speaker.
- Install the latest version of “Sony | Music Center” on the connected device. If you cannot use the latest version of “Sony | Music Center” or you cannot connect the speaker and a BLUETOOTH device via BLUETOOTH connection, uninstall “Sony | Music Center” and install it again.
- When receiving/making a phone call, check that output of the BLUETOOTH device is set for the speaker.

The sound may become low when the built-in battery is running low and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly, while the speaker is being powered by the built-in battery only. Also, when the rechargeable built-in battery is running low as a result of long-time use of the speaker at a loud volume even though the speaker was connected to an AC outlet by the AC adaptor (supplied).
If the sound becomes low while in use, turn off the speaker and charge the built-in battery sufficiently.
