|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this speaker and promptly set up - Bluetooth setup we are all used to - easy setup and paired quickly. The design is good - size is good for portability, fits in a bag easily, and doesn't make much room at all! Another big thing I really like is the lanyard!! OMG, this is so useful - great for carrying around and the clip on the end allows you to hang the speaker up! The design also allows you to place the speaker both horizontally and vertically. Sound is good - it's loud and covers a good area. We use it at the pool and it gives good volume throughout the deck. It is WATERPROOF! We submerged this speaker many times and it just keeps going - it did lose signal when completely submerged but reconnected every time and continued playing. The function is great - all buttons are placed on the back and are rubber wrapped - has the standard PWR, VOL+/-, Play/Pause. Then there is the Batt button that provides an audio notification of the remaining battery percentage remaining. I found the responses were in 10% increments. Party Mode - this is a fun little perk of the Sony family - you can pair many speakers together - getting a matching Stereo output or simply share many speakers from a single audio source - this works using the sony app and BlueTooth. Overall - a great little portable speaker - battery lasts a long time and I love the functionality! Also, the charger has been upgraded to USB-C over the previous models!

Being a "Bose Guy" I expected I would be returning the Sony but after doing several comparisons it made no sense for me to keep the Bose. Yes the Bose had slightly better thumping bass but overall sound between the two is negligible. The Sony also has a tether which is handy and stays connected with my iphone better.

The SRS-XB23 not just about sound quality it also undergone extensive shock testing to make sure it can withstand the inevitable knocks, bumps and scrapes that come with everyday use. Even if you drop it, the SRS-XB23 will keep on working. It also has an IP67 rating which makes the speaker dustproof, waterproof, rustproof and washable.
