The Sony XB31 is a Bluetooth and NFC enabled speaker with extended base and enhanced spacial sound. Sony has added a new DSP (Digital Signal Processor), angled speaker and Live sound mode for better 3 dimensional sound output. These speakers sound great ! I could not believe the rich full sound coming out of this speaker. The Sony sb31 carries IP67 water resistance rating. Allowing the speaker to be used in environments they where they may be exposed to water, think pool, beach or on a boat. According to Sony the SRS-XB31 is rustproof even when exposed to salt water. The speaker is also dust-proof making it great for camping or even the desert! The fabric covering looks great and is washable. There are 3 different colors available, white, red and black. The shape, size and weight makes them easy to carry to any party or gathering. The SRS XB31 are capable of connecting with ‘Wireless Party Chain’ allowing up to 100 wireless speakers with Bluetooth, the music and lights sync-up so everyone dances to the same beat. This is compatible with Sony's other XB speakers with Bluetooth. This is a cool feature, I could not test it since I did not have any other XB speakers but it sounds fun and could really wind up your party. You can control the speaker from the the Sony Music Center app for android or iPhone. I had no problem installing it on my android smartphone or my wife's iPhone. You can select your favorite playlists, cue the next song and change lighting patterns and sound modes easily. You can stream from Pandora, google play or iTunes and many others. You can stream without the app also. The XB31 speaker also comes with party lighting effects. They have line lights that glow in many colors and other lights that flash like a strobe. These can be set to frantic or calming patterns or turned off depending on the mood you are in. They built-in accelerometer which is used by their ‘Party Booster’ feature. It can detect tapping from different directions and generates a sound and lighting action. Tapping the speaker in different places makes different sounds like a scratch, snare, kick drum and cowbell. You can control the volume of the sound effect, gently for a soft or wack it for a loud. I had a lot of fun banging on the speaker while dancing! The speaker has Stereo Mini Jack (IN), USB A Terminal (DC OUT only) maybe to use to connect to your phone as a battery?, micro USB (DC IN) for charging and wall power. The battery last 24hours according to Sony, I charged it fully when I received the speaker and and it played all day with power to spare. I have a lot of Bluetooth speakers, this is one of my favorites great sound without any worries about getting it wet or dirty!

I've been a fan of SONY products for years. They always produce a quality product at a great price. The SONY SRS XB31 Bluetooth Speaker is no exception. It's a very nicely put together speaker. I was able to power up the speaker without charging, the speaker arrived with 75% charge in it, so it's always nice to have your product arrive and you can use it right away. Pressing the power button, it went into pairing mode. Looked for it on my phone, it paired and connected right away. You can play music via your phones 'music' app or through the SONY Music Center App. (You can also set up your speaker through that same app, and also adjust the lighting and sound settings). The sound is nice and punchy, full of bass, as you would expect from a SONY Extra Bass product. Tuning your sounds via the Music Center app really gets you some nice levels and sound quality. You can add speakers to a chain to create either Stereo or a Party Chain sound. This is where I got frustrated. I don't have two of the same SONY speakers, at this price point, not sure how many people will have multiple versions of the bluetooth speaker, but, I did have an SRS XB30 speaker on hand. I tried and tried to pair the two together, as they both have speaker pairing capabilities, but alas, it did not work. I believe now, that you can only pair speakers from the same 'group' i.e. SRS XB30 and SRS XB40, but not an SRS XB30 and an SRS XB31. That is where I was held up, trying to pair an SRS XB30 and an SRS XB31 speaker together (maybe someone from SONY can confirm?). The lights are a nice additional show that you can customize and turn off if you want to. You do have a lot of control over them. This speaker is waterproof as well. Not just splashproof, but waterproof. Its IP rating means you can take it to the beach without any concerns at all (as long as you MAKE SURE you close the little power cover on the back). If you don't do that, you'll be in trouble! Another 'feature' this speaker has is the ability to tap it to create sounds. I thought it was going to be an interesting concept to check out, but the reality is that is was a little cumbersome to use. You don't really 'tap' the speaker, but you have to hit it really quite hard for it to register. You are able to make drum sounds with it, kick drum, snare, cymbals etc, it's deifnitely a novelty, not sure of the life of that novelty tho! Overall a great sounding and good looking speaker, waterproof for use at a pool or the beach without any concerns of damage. Nice and easy to pair (bluetooth with my iPhone) but has NFS if you have an Android device. Good, rich, bassy sound, perfect for enjoying time with your friends. I would recommend this speaker!

Bought this speaker for my son's birthday. He absolutely loves it. It gives a crisp sound and my son uses it daily with no issues. Love the colors too.

This thing has some serious Bass if that is what you are looking for. Connects and pairs very easily to numerous bluetooth products. Its made of waterproof material that according to the insert is native to Japan for some fun fact info. It also has a 3.5mm audio jack so you could hard wire to a device if you wanted. Overall I'm pretty happy with the quality of sound and portability of this speaker. The micro usb charging cable is rather short but not worth knocking a star. Arrived with a 70% charge which is nice supposedly lasts for up to 24 hrs of music listening can't confirm this yet.

Solid sound. Great value , love the lights on it. Bought it for my 21yr old daughter. She loves it, likes it better than the comparable Bose speaker.

This Bluetooth speaker has a great sound output with extra bass. Along with a colorful light display, you can charge your usb device (phone, tablet..etc).

This speaker should not be dismissed. Beats and Bose are being sold on their name in this category(bluetooth portable speaker) . Sony really stepped it up.

This speaker sounds good, sets up easily and delivers the performance it promised. Not more but no less. Solid for everyday use around the house.

The speaker is so easy to carry around and the sound quality is a amazing, the only con is the battery life is a lot shorter than what I expected.

Had my reservations but i now have 3 with my tool box and the party sync mode is awesome with good quality at high volumes

I bought this for my 13 year old granddaughter. She absolutely loves this Sony speaker. She says the sound is awesome and loves that it lights up.

Awesome speaker!! Easy to setup...easy to use. Great sound with some awesome thumpin’ bass!! They matched the Amazon price so it was an even better buy.

This speaker is great. It sounds good but I wish there was a little more bass to it. It really looks premium with all the cool led's around it. The material is nice as well but be careful as the mesh tends to pick up small particles but a spray of compressed air can get them out. The battery life is alright but if you disable the "light show" the battery will last longer. My only issue with it is that the phone calls coming through the speaker are super quiet. Even with the speaker at full blast you can barely hear anything if your not near it. I also noticed the the battery percentage prompt is also hilariously quiet and again you must be near it to hear anything. Other then that I am satisfied with the speaker and would recommend it.

Needed a speaker for vacation and wasn't looking to break the bank. This fits the bill on both as well as very compact and loud for its size.

I went to the store to actually listen to it first and to surprise this little thing is loud. Bass is great. The Bluetooth connects really fast!

The NFC feature is pretty convenient, can just tap to connect. The led lights are a nice touch plus great sounding bass. Would definitely recommend!!

My family loves this speaker. We use it at home indoors and outdoors. Excellent sound quality for everyday use. Only complaint is it doesn't go as loud as I would like sometimes when needing a lot of sound.

Actually really amazed the sound quality that comes out of this thing for the price. IMO this sound was much better than Bose.
