I can here it over the machines at work and they are loud.

for the size of the speaker it goes really loud and power

my wife likes it especially the LED's around it has good bass

This speaker is good for some outdoor activities but definetly not the best for let's say, going camping, or for a couple of days out of power, the battery on mine I found won't last too long, depdnding on the level of volume you listen to the music, and I would definitely recommend keeping the lights off for some tlextra juice

The Sony portable Bluetooth speaker emits music and light.

The Sony SRS-XB31 exceeded all of my expectations--especially given it's very reasonable price of $149.99 Excellent design and impressive sound. Additionally, the light bars illuminate and change with the music and do a remarkable job of adjusting to the mood of the music. First, the design of the SRS-XB31 feels very substantial. The special 'fabric' doesn't really feel like a fabric at all and would be very easy to rinse off should the speaker get dirty. This is especially good news for me as I like to visit the beach and have had issues with sand getting in other speakers. Without being able to wash the speaker, the sand is basically there to stay. There is a small access port in the back where you can charge the unit, connect to a 3.5mm jack and with additional controls. This access port/panel is covered by a thick rubber cover that stays put. The most important aspect of the unit is the sound. I compared the Sony SRS-XB31 to a Bose Soundlink Mini II which produces rich and room filling sounds. The Sony exceeded the performance of the Bose in all but one category--clarity. The base thumped more and provided the perfect level of music when I had some friends over. Even though the Bose outperformed the Sony with clarity, it only beat it by a little and I found the Sony's other excellent performance more than made up for it. The light bars provide a mesmerizing experience. Whether you are chilling out with some new age syth or dancing to the latest EDM, the light bars adjust to provide the right atmosphere and keep you guessing with an endless variety of lighting effects. One thing that is important to me, the lighting effects can be disabled or restricted to a certain color/style of light transition. This is important as sometimes you don't want the lighting to feel like a rave. Maybe you just want a cool color ambient light to go along with your music and the app does allow you to make these adjustment. The companion app with the Sony SRS-XB31 is usefully to change the lighting settings, sound mode, and other less important settings. While the initial bluetooth connection took only a few seconds, actually getting the app to recognize the speaker even though it was already paired with my phone. It could use a little work. In conclusion, I think the Sony SRS-XB31 is an excellent speaker option. Given the price point of approximately $150, I think it's a bargain given the light bars, battery life (up to 24 hours), and sound quality. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for something that is fun at home, fun at the beach, or wherever you decide to take it. First off, this speaker sounds really amazing for its size. More bass than I was expecting from a speaker this size. Plenty loud and stays clear even at high volumes. The lighting effects are an interesting addition that should make dock parties a little more interesting. The “Party Booster” mode is more of a novelty than anything that will really be used. Fun for a minute or two but that’s about it for me. As far as the hardware goes, Sony has done well with this portable speaker. The app support on the other hand is severely lacking. The Music Center app consistently disconnects from the speaker requiring you to go into your Bluetooth settings to “reconnect” in order to adjust sound and lighting settings even though the sound never stops. The Fiestable app won’t work at all, saying you have to connect your speaker first. This after using the speaker for 30+ minutes. Skip the download of that one. That’s the only reason I dropped a star off the review. Other than the app support, the SRS XB31 is a great speaker. One other thing to note, this speaker doesn’t come with a power block so you’ll need an extra one to charge this speaker. The good thing is the battery life is long enough you shouldn’t have to worry about it very often.

This little speaker really packs in the sound! Combining a number of Sony technologies into one, this awesome little Bluetooth speaker is (mostly) waterproof, contains a light organ worth of strobes and LEDs and has what feels like a ridiculously long battery life. Sound quality is just okay, but more important for a speaker like this is that it doesn't distort when I turn it almost all the way up. The unique design is covered in a special fabric that keeps the sand out and aid in the waterproof nature, lending itself to the boat or the beach nicely. I had no troubles pairing this thing with my phone, and while I haven't gotten the chance to use it yet, the ability to daisy chain this speaker with others, to create even more sound is a nice little add-on feature. I'm enjoying the shift to making these kinds of electronics waterproof so I don't have to worry about them when I really want to use them. This one rings in at slightly more expensive than it's competitors for size but makes up for it with flashy lights and tons of battery. the manual says 24 hours, I think I'm getting right about 26. This thing can't wait for it to be summer on the pontoon!!

This little dude packs a punch and then some. I have tried many Bluetooth compact portable speakers and really like this Sony speaker. They are upping their game in the past year, and the lights are icing on the cake. I have spent a few days and nights putting this guy to work and it hasn't failed me yet. For being a submersible speaker you would expect low highs and tinny bass but you get just the opposite with the XB31. The lights are fun and add to the enjoyment of the speaker. Specially in the shower, not to mention the acoustics in the shower just amplify the quality of this speaker, even at medium volume. The battery must have a bunny in it because it doesn't quit. And the Bluetooth has phenomenal distance to it. All in all its a great little speaker ready for whatever you toss at it. Fits great in your hand and can stand on end or lay horizontal.

Surprise at the sound quality and at a great value

Great speaker! I went back and forth between this and the JBL products that were on sale at the time. For 20 extra dollars I went with this, and I couldn't be happier. I bought this as a gift for my father and he absolutely loves it.

Great Speaker and the battery life is great as well.

Sounds great, can't complain about the price either.
