My son loves this speaker. It is waterproof, the sound is awesome, and the lights are cool. He takes it with him everywhere.

I normally don’t write reviews but I have to warn others of this speaker especially given the price. The battery life is supposed to be 24 hours but you’ll be lucky to get 6. I have a 60$ Altec wireless speaker that outlasts this speaker and it’s half the price. The lights and the sound quality is great, but literally every time I went to use this speaker for parties it was dead/almost dead. The most frustrating thing about the speaker is that once it gets down to 25% it cuts volume by half and won’t let you play the music on a listenable level. I returned the first one I got hoping that I just had a speaker with a shot battery but the second one was exactly the same. I ended up just giving it away because I was so frustrated with it.

Sony scored with this one. The SRS XB-31 is a great little party speaker. It has both bluetooth and nearfield communiction so Android users connecting is even easier than bluetooth. Out of the box I charged it for a bit and it was ready to go. I paired both using bluetooth and then Nearfield. Nearfield was faster and bluetooth worked as well. There are six user manuals, don't ignore any of them...here is why. You can either use the Sony Music Center App or not, but if you don't use the app you will miss out on some of the cool features. In order to use the Party Booster Function you have to use the app. The Party Booster allows you to add your own musical touch (drum kit, percussion or custom) by taping the sides of the speaker. Sounds great for a bunch of pre-teen girls...and it is. Sound quality is excellent and has 3 modes, standard, extra bass and live sound. Clear Audio is the preset. From there you can choose to select your own bass/mid/treble settings. The next feature is the light show setting, there are several to choose from. This again is a great party type feature. You can select power options and voice announcement for battery level to wrap up the options. Remember without the app the above features are not available. The app seems to sync well with your current favorite music source and tracks saved in your playlists. You can custom create more playlists with the app as well. OK, sound quality since that what this thing is all about. The Extra Base feature seems to be the best setting IMO. The live setting is good but the Extra Base gives just a little more punch at low level listening. In larger open rooms it directs sound well and fills the room. Highs are crisp and clean. As with any speaker, push it too hard and it distorts but I would estimate within about 90% of full volume the music is still pleasing. This is a great little speaker and I will be buying another one to test out the connection feature and use them in the summer on the patio.

It has fairly good sound but the instructions on connecting on my laptop was very bad . Just showed pictures and no verbal instructions.

Bluetooth speakers are a dime a dozen and it's hard to stand out in a crowded field. In my opinion, most speakers have similar sound quality (in the midtier to upper level market, I can't speak for the cheap, non-name brand speakers). What I look for is loudness, battery life, battery life and durability. This speaker nails it on those and offers a little bit more. The build quality is classic Sony. It is great. It is hefty but not too heavy. The fabric on the outside is tight (as in it doesn't slide around) and is very durable. You get anything on it, you can wipe it off. The sound quality is good, nice highs and lows. I'm no audiophile but the average joe will be very satisfied with the sound quality. It claims to have extra bass, but I don't notice much extra bass. Don't get me wrong, I like the lows this speaker offers, but I don't hear any major emphasis on the bass. Maybe someone else will notice, but I don't. The speaker is plenty loud. In fact, at top volume it gets too loud, which you can't say about a lot of speakers. I had about 8 people over with the speaker playing in a distant corner of the room and it was on about 70% volume and that still seemed too loud to hear over everyone's conversations. I took it outside on the porch and i was amazed how far the sound traveled. I can confidently say that the volume of this speaker (keep in mind there's a bigger model) will handle most situations. Small parties, small outdoor venues, you name it. I don't generally take my speakers out in the wilderness, or in the rain, but I do occasionally take them to the pool or hot tub. I took this to the hot tub and while I can't say tested it, it wasn't bothered by the cold weather and moisture in the air. Sony claims it can handle dust and water splashes. I have to take that at face value. I don't really intend on putting it through any crazy rigors What makes this speaker stand a part is the battery life and lights. First, the battery life. It is advertised at 24 hours. While I haven't played it for 24 hours straight, I charged it completely, and listened to it for a week with the lights on and at about a 50% level and it never died. Now I wished it had a battery level indicator on the speaker, but it took a week before it finally clonked out. That was with the lights on. The other feature I really appreciated but never thought I would, was the party lights. Look, that didn't appeal to me too much, but I find myself liking them more and more. No you won't be staring at the speaker and no it shouldn't be the only reason you buy any speaker, but it is kinda cool. The lights go to the beat for the most part and aren't too overbearing. It's a nice little addition that I think sets the mood of the party. Best of all, you can turn it off. The speaker has the ability to charge your phone via USB, I never used that, but it is a nice feature if you get to the pool (or wherever) and need to juice up your phone. All in all, given the sound quality and battery life alone I highly recommend this speaker. You can get similar audio quality in most other speakers in this price range, but you are getting party lights and durability that aren't standard in most speakers, which in my opinion sets it apart from the crowd.

It bumps! All the jams, from 2pac to Britney, The Pixies to Madonna. All the bangers. Plus the lights are lit!

Works as advertised, easy to use. It was a gift for my wife and she is enjoying how easy it is to use and setup!!

Not blown away with this speaker. Sounds pretty decent in the live mode. The lights suck the battery down pretty quickly.

This is by far one of the BEST speakers I've ever used. It has fancy light and everything, but that has nothing to do with the great sound it produces. Lots of bass, and if you don't like it...turn it down. It has an app if you have a smartphone, to help you change the lights and EQ. You can answer your calls on it, and talk directly to people without disconnecting your device. Good battery life, and great sound. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah, it's water proof as well. IP67.

It has an awesome range so when listening from a further distance the sound still really loud and powerful!

I used it with my class to play music for an exercise. I worked great and everyone enjoyed the activity.
