This bluetooth speaker has no connection problems for me and provides amazing sound quality. Unfortunately, I'm finding that after about a year of use it is beginning to die. The battery life is becoming shorter and the sound is not as crisp anymore. Excellent speaker for parties, but I would not buy a second one.

The Sony SRS-XB31 Extra Bass wireless speaker is fun! The claim by Sony is that it is waterproof, dust proof & shock proof. There are many, many adjustments and tweaks you can make using the Sony Music Center app. This is a wireless Bluetooth speaker that you charge via a supplied (extremely short, maybe 18”) USB cord. There is no power block. It comes with more documentation than I have seen in years. Most tech gadgets come with a small sheet giving you a website to go to; with this speaker you get so much more. There is an easy start guide to get you going, a reference guide, info on the app and info on the Party Booster. The speaker paired quite easily to my iPhone 7 and easily plays my playlists. You can move forward and backwards through the list with a double touch or triple touch to the play button on the speaker or control it from the app. The sound is surprisingly good to my non-audiophile ear. You can manually adjust the bass, mid & treble individually (which I have chosen to do) or choose a preset mode, such as Extra Bass. For a party, you can really crank the volume on this and the sound remains clear. Added features on this speaker are: the long battery life: I charged it 5 days ago and played it today and the “voice” told me it was still 100% charged. That’s good. How long can you play it on one charge? I played it for a couple hours and it stayed at 100%, played it again for an hour or so and 5 days later still 100%; there is a multi-color party light mode that you can adjust to various light show modes that range from very mellow to dance party or you can turn this feature off. It’s a nice & fun function to have and syncs to the beat of your music; there is a Party Booster mode which, when activated, allows you to add various sounds as you tap on different areas of the speaker. To me, this isn’t very useful as the speaker is not that light-weight and I can’t see dancing while holding it (as the videos show) while tapping on it at the same time. Some may like this feature, I just don’t; you can add a few of these speakers to form a chain (I only have 1, so I didn’t try this); and there is a USB power port for convenient smartphone charging. This is a feature packed portable Bluetooth speaker with fantastic sound quality (at approx 9” wide x 3-1/2” deep) with some additional fun options I haven’t seen with other speakers. I would definitely recommend this speaker.

Another bluetooth speaker , just what the world needs. Maybe. So what does the Sony SRS-XB31 offer that is different? It has all the top features you would expect in today’s speaks - bluetooth, NFC, micro USB charging, waterproof and dustproof etc. Let’s take a look at the performance and some of the features : LED lights - The SRS-XB31 has multi-colored LED lights that sync to the music. Yawwnn. Sony and other manufacturers - when are you going to realize that people do not care about it. Yes some people may like the cool factor for about 2 minutes and then totally forget about it. This is nothing but a battery waster in my opinion. Changing the light pattern is annoying, it is done through the app. You have to first select the light style you want and press done to see the new light pattern. A better design is to cycle through the light patterns as you select them. I just turned it off in the app. To each their .own I guess Sound - There is a lot of sound coming out of a relatively small speaker. Out of the box, the speaker is set to extra bass. It definitely has a lot of bass, in fact too much for my liking. Luckily, you can change that through the app or a a series of button hold downs. In the app, you have three options for the sound - standard, extra bass and live sound. I found the extra bass a bit too much and a little muddied and the standard mode just has no life to it. The live sound worked the best with most of the songs I tried, this mode gave the best sound out of the speaker. To refine it further the app has an equalizer. Nice. Build - this is one solid speaker. It is stated that it is waterproof and dustproof. Of course, I did not test that but I believe it. It is not too heavy but does have a very solid feel to it. Unique features - you can chain together multiple Sony SRS-XB speakers ( up to 100.) Nice feature if you want to fill up a room with music. The Sony SRS-XB31 is Google Assistant and Siri compatible. It has a 3.5mm audio in and a USB port to charge any device ( as in if your phone runs low, you can charge it.) I own the Sony SRS-XB20 and this Sony SRS-XB31 is an order of magnitude better. The sound, the controls and overall features are just better. This is not the best sounding speaker I have ever heard but it is very good. Sony keeps refining their speaker line and it shows. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

This is the bluetooth speaker I have been looking for. It was easy to pair and connect. The battery is very good considering the how good the sound quality and bass was. The light show is cool but I am also happy that I am able to turn it off when I need to. The party chain functionality is cool to. There are a lot more features to play with once you install the app. This speaker is a very good value for the money.

The size of this speaker is great. And so is the fact that it a water resistant. But the speaker quality is not good. It sounds muffled when you play music. If you tip it on its side it sounds a bit more clear but still has a muffled sound to it. There are a lot more better options out there and for less money.
