Sony's got the bluetooth speaker figured out! This little guy is gorgeous and sounds very rich and fantastic! The speaker is covered with a beautiful blue fabric (So glad I didn't get white.) It has a silicone cover on the back to cover ports/options. One is the button to turn off and on the light, a WPC (wireless party chain) button where you can connect other speakers, and an add button where you can make one the right speaker and another, the left speaker. You can also connect via NFC to this bad boy. I love the light that changes with the beat and that you can shut it off if you don't want it. I also love the feature that you can link this one with others in order to have multiple speakers playing the same things. This would be great for an event in multiple rooms, or indoor/outdoor. Sounds amazing. Bass is strong and the treble isn't tinny. Great product! I want to get more to chain them together!

The Sony - SRS-XB31 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a decent bluetooth speaker for the money. It has good sound overall but alot of the bluetooth speakers lately have been going more of a 3d route for the sound so that the speaker can be played almost anywhere in the room without losing the sound quality. I believe this feature has actually spoiled me because the SRS XB31 just doesn't stack up in that department. It has good crisp sound, but only really in one direction. The unit itself is waterproof and dustproof which makes its a nice choice for a beach or party speaker. Another plus is it has a plug to charge your phone. It quotes 24 hr battery life, but I'm not sure how that's affected by charging your phone. I tested the speaker out over the weekend and took it the park and I felt like it did the job well. I wasn't worried about getting it dirty or wet because I can just rinse it off so that's definitely a plus. When the music plays the speakers lights up in different colors which is a nice little touch, but nothing that really adds any functionality. Overall I would consider this to be a good speaker for the money, it provides good battery life with the ability to charge your phone on the go along with waterproof technology. Gotta love the tech in 2018!

I’m really disappointed in this product being a Sony product. The most aggravating feature is its poor battery life! To make matters worse, when it reaches 50% battery life It dramatically reduces the audio In an attempt to conserve battery. They have been many times when I go to the beach or a party with the fully charge speaker and in no time it’s whispering the music. Definitely got many stares and laughs at my speaker. Womp womp. No I just got a new iPhone and it’s having trouble pairing with it. I push the battery button and it says Please charge yet when I plug it in it says battery full. I take really good care of my things and there is no water damage nor has it been dropped. Just a sad quiet speaker.

Sounded good in the store. We were not crazy about the lights on the speaker. Wish we could just turn them off, and maybe we could using the phone app. But when we got it home, we couldn't get the sound to be pleasing to us. It was definitely a more treble rich sound. We returned.

The battery does not last that long and cannot charge it while in use...the sound is pretty good while it’s fully charged....after the battery is at 20% it will lower your volume

I purchased this speaker for an outdoor Christmas event and was totally disappointed due to a known problem listed in the user manual as "not a defect" the speaker will not work on power - only battery. You have to charge the speaker to use it and cannot use it when charging. It went dead during the event and could not be used plugged into power. We are also using some Klazzo $20.00 speakers that are waterproof / have batteries and continuous play/charging!! Surely Sony was aware and listed it in the manual!! not on the box!! was embarrassing!!

This would’ve been the third time I upgraded speakers with Sony but the overall experience left me wanting more. The charger was too short and I had some problems with sound. I sincerely hope I just had a defective speaker.

The Sony SRS-XB31 is an awesome, fun, Bluetooth speaker. It is great for the whole family, parties, and outdoor activities. If you are using it at night, it has dance lights that can be toggled, for an added layer of fun. The battery in the SRS-XB31 is awesome, lasting for up to 24 hours! You can also charge your cellphone from the speaker's battery, making it the perfect addition when you are on the go. It's perfect for by the pool, as it is dust and waterproof. It can also be paired with other similar Sony speakers, allowing you to have up to 100 speakers synced. I love this speaker, as does my daughter and her friends. In addition to it's lights, when activated, you can tap different parts of the speaker for cool, DJ-like sound effects.

At the beginning I was not very convinced to have a portable speaker with disco lights, but when I had the Sony SRSXB31 in my hands and turned it on, both my wife and my daughter practically pulled it out of my hands. Now I think it is a really cool feature that makes a big difference along all the other Bluetooth speaker available in the market. There are a lot to say about this unique and “small’ Bluetooth speaker, but I will try to focus on the things that make it a remarkable difference from others. I found that beside the lightning feature, there are other features that position Sony as an innovator without a doubt. First, the BASS, it is not that is loud, but is is consistent, deep and harmonious, you would not believe that is coming from that small thing. Then, we have the 3 dimensional music experience, that has been always offer by Sony with many of its product. However, I was able to experience that sensation with this speaker, I hear the sound spreading vertically and horizontally along in the room. The Sony Music Center App, aka songpal, it is one of the most versatile and dynamic app to control the Sony Products, it is way above of other apps I have seen. With this app, you can control several Sony audio devices which are compatible with “Sony Music Center” using your smartphone, iPhone, Samsung etc. I have a Samsung Phone, once I paired the XB31 Speaker using the bluetooth connection, it should show as SRS-Xb31 device, then you can download and install the Music Center app from the play store, for the android os, and the rest is pretty intuitive. The unit can be paired using NFC, if you have an android OS based smartphone, just tap your phone on the NFC symbol that is located on the left side on top of the speaker, and that is it, the connection is done. You have a lot of different settings that you can adjust for your own convenience, like for example, the lights, it comes with the "Rave" setting by default, but you can enjoy other different combinations, the "Chill" setting if you are in the mood for classical or piano music, which I personally enjoy the most. My daughter likes the "Hot" setting, which gives you more dramatic and emphasize lightning style for modern music. Other Settings available is the Bluetooth, which you can adjust the type of compression you want or power saving mode connection. One of my favorite settings is the add speaker option, with this setting you can have 2 options, you can add a second XB31 as an extension of the first one, or you can set the 2nd as the stereo speaker, the connection is bluetooth. On the same topic, other setting is the “Wireless Party Chain” (WPC) Function. With this one you can connect multiple devices (up to 100 devices) compatible with the Wireless Party Chain function with a list of different Sony Bluetooth Speakers compatible devices. This speaker also includes a microphone, which allows you to use the google app of your phone, this is not an Amazon echo or Google home, but with the mic that this unit has incorporated, and if you have your google assistant or Alexa enable on your phone you can ask or do the same things you do with you google assistant from your cell phone, so it becomes an extension (mic and speakers) of your phone. All these settings can be also adjust or manage the speaker, if you don’t want to use or install the Music center app, you can adjust all the settings we have review before, using a combination of the keys that are located on the speaker, like the play, forward or reverse keys. At the back of the speaker, there is a compartment where you can find a USB connection that will allows you to charge your phone for example, so the speaker will act as a Battery Backup. You have an audio in, and the micro USB for power up the Speaker, and 3 bottoms: - the Batt, which will tell you the Batt %, and you can enable or disable the lights. - the WPC button, where you can link the Sony compatible speakers. - the Add Button, where you can set up a 2nd speaker as a stereo combination. But I have left for the end, that the XB31 can be used like a musical instrument and it can detect tapping from 5 different directions of the XB31 producing different sounds depending which side of the speaker are you tapping, thanks to the built-in accelerometer that generates a sound and lighting reaction. Overall, the speaker is outstanding in so many ways, but the main part, the sound, is impressive, no distortion, clear and crispy, and the extra bass is not disapointing at all. I highly recommend this product.

This solid construction speaker is great to carry around with you to wherever you need portable sound in a compact package. Waterproof and dust proof, so take it to the beach with you no problem. Up to 24 hr battery life! I honestly haven’t gone that long with it but the speaker lasts all day with no problems. You can use it as a speakerphone and it’s compatible with Siri or Google Assist...and it pairs very easily with your smartphone. You also have the ability to link multiple speakers together for stereo sound or even link up to 100 speakers with the party chain feature. Sound is great for a speaker this size and the bass is decent. Overall a nice compact speaker that I would recommend for your travels and everyday use.
