The speaker is great, perfect size, stylish and great sound. Would not recommend buying without geek squad. I received a defective speaker that I've repeatedly charged for 10+ hours and roughly get 2 hours of battery life. The speaker would even tell me its at 100%. Very dissapointed that i would have had to spend even more money to avoid this issue.

I'll keep this plain and simple since the majority of the reviews for this thing are as long as the Bible. Pros... Looks really good. Sounds really good. Lights are cool. But u keep them off 99% of the time. Really easy to connect to phone or tablet. Cons... Comes with a really short and poor quality USB charger. You'll get about 2 hours of music at the loudest setting without the lights being on before it turns itself down by 50% at about 70% of battery life left. And there is no way of changing that. And simply because of that I would not recommend this speaker. Will be returning it and trying out the JBL like I originally wanted before I was told this was better.

So, Sony released this speaker with lightning feature, which is really fun, beside the lightning feature this speaker can be used like a drum instrument by tapping from 5 different angles of the unit delivering 5 different sounds and lighting reaction accordingly. But something that makes Sony stands out of the crowd is the sound, and this unit proves it, first the BASS, is consistent and balanced and high frequencies are very well appreciated as well. It also includes 3 different music experience, vertically and horizontally and the fitting sound room sensation As always Sony has the Music Center App, before called songpal, where you can control several different Sony audio devices using your iPhone, LG, Samsung etc. If you have an Android phone based with NFC, the Speaker can be paired using NFC, just tap your phone on the NFC symbol that is located on the left side on top of the speaker, and the connection will set up automatically. About the lightning, there are different settings for example, "Rave", "Chill" , "Hot", which gives you different lightning scenarios and moods. You can add speakers, with 2 options, either add a second XB31 as an extension, or set as the stereo speaker It also has the (WPC) Function that allows you to connect multiple devices (100) of Sony Bluetooth Speakers compatible devices. This speaker also includes a microphone, which allows you to use the google app or siri (iphone) of your smartphone. There is a compartment at the back where you can find a USB connectivity that acts as a charger Batt for any USB device including your phone, audio in port, micro USB for power and charge the Speaker. This speaker is guaranteed to offer a lot of fun and great sound

This came charged out of the box and was far and away better than any prior BT speaker I have used. Not sure how I like the flashing color changing LEDS, but that can be turned off.

the sound on this thing is really good super loud and the app that comes with it helps control sounds through the song BUT if its in use at the highest volume and charge gets lower than 50%, the sound lowers even when its plugged in! ya can't even hear it and you can't turn it up 20 plus hours of charge is a LIE so im returning it

If you are buying this as a stand alone speaker it is worth the money. Has a great sound. If you are buying to pair, dont waste your money. I purchased 3 (says you can pair more) and had major issues trying to pair. If I managed to get the app to work (most tries I didn't) the speakers would drop connection. I tried resetting, tried connecting just 2, but kept having issues. Later read reviews about app and found this has been an ongoing issue. The app is useless, and if you want to pair or have light show you must use app. There is actually a party connection button on back of speaker but that didn't work either.

Received as a gift for xmas 2018, has been great for about 2 years. Now the battery is having issues, where I plug it in but it doesn’t charge. Have to turn it on, wait for it to tell me “please charge”, turn off and then the light turns on telling me that its charging. Whenever it falls below 50% charge, volume gets cut significantly. Once it hits 100%, charging stops and continues to drain (with it plugged in) then notifying me again to please charge. Overall, sound is great and packs a punch for its size. If only I didn’t have to guess what level the battery is actually charged at, along with the annoying charging sequence, I would’ve rated 5

Build is solid. The light show lacks tremendously from the xb30. And the bass... No. It's not worthy of anything to give it the name extra bass 31. I've gone through all of the settings and it lacks highly. I used my music app on my phone which will output a tremendous sound and this speaker cannot handle it. Very disappointed in the bass quality, which i was buying it for.

The sound is great, but I'm incredibly irritated that even when it's plugged in after a few hours the volume cuts in half and you have to shut it off and let it charge again for several hours before it will allow you to play it at full volume again. Does not meet my needs, if I knew it would do this I wouldn't have bought it.

I purchased this speaker when it was first released, so 5-6months ago. And I absolutely loved it. I myself read all the reviews so knew it had minor glitches to battery life when using the light features..but you simply switch it off and the speaker would last almost a full day without charging.. now here we are 5-6months later and it barely even turns on anymore. It’ll power on, connect to whatever device start glitching (spark noises) and power itself off. I’ve never dropped it, never wet it, never took it to the beach; solely used for home purposes. I would understand if it died a year+ of me having it.. but 5-6 months down the line is a little much. Sony, you need to work on that.

I am so unbelievably angry right now. I probably haven’t used my speaker for even an hour, or have even gone up above half volume, but whenever there is bass, there are scratchy noises that ruins the music as it is too loud and noticeable to enjoy anything with. It does this with both aux cord or bluetooth. What a load of s—t. What a waste of good money. Garbage. Just buy a UE. They are cheaper, better quality, and are much sturdier. My brother has one and has used it constantly over 6 months and has never once had a problem with it.

I am so disappointed. The speaker worked great for the first 4 months and now does not maintain a charge. This speaker stays in one unobstructed shelf in my house at all times. It now ony holds maybe an hour charge, has audio problems and becomes scratchy from time-to-time. Horrible Sony. Do better and send me a fix for this.

Bought this speaker and used it for all of about a day before discovering that you can't use it while it's charging, the battery life is very short and the volume lowers itself when the battery life reaches a certain percentage. Terrible product, I'm returning it today and buying a Bose speaker.

Device never charged. After original charge gone, it never worked again. A paperweight.

Battery goes dead very quickly. Sound is terrible . Extra bass heard no difference.
