You can turn off the speaker light by pressing and holding the BATT (battery)/LIGHT button behind the cap on the rear side of the speaker for about 3 seconds until the lighting function turns off/on. Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Researched the JBL Charge 4, Sony XB-32, XB-33, and XB-43 thoroughly. - Based on the type of music generally played in my household ( bollywood, light rock, rap), the Sony speakers were my choice -Cost was a factor, so initially decided to get the SonyXB-32, and upgraded to the XB-33 when it went on sale for $119.99. - The light display is cool but was not a major factor - XB-33 is a significant upgrade compared to XB-32 -XB-43 is even better, but it is much bulkier and not damage proof if dropped on hard surface. - I was not looking for much more than playing music, so cannot comment on other features of this speaker. I am completely satisfied with this speaker.

Great speaker with a minor drawback

The only reason I give this 4 stars is because the aux port was removed making it impossible to connect to older devices without bluetooth. If that's what you need XB-32 is the product for you.

For the battery issue: When fully charged, the speaker has an available operating time of about 24 hours when the volume level of the speaker is set to 36, lighting function is set to off, and the sound effect is set to STAMINA. About 14 hours when the volume is set to 35, the lighting function is set to on (factory default settings), and the sound effect is set to EXTRA BASS (factory default settings). And you will get about 4 hours of use when the volume level of the speaker is set to maximum (50), lighting function is set to on (factory default settings), and sound effect is set to EXTRA BASS (factory default settings).
The actual performance time may vary due to the volume, songs played, the surrounding temperature, and usage conditions.
