Thank you for the review. The sound may become low in the following cases. This is not a malfunction. When the built-in battery is running low and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly, while the speaker is being powered by the built-in battery only. When the rechargeable built-in battery is running low as a result of long-time use of the speaker at a loud volume even though the speaker was connected to an AC outlet by a USB AC adaptor (commercially available) or to a computer that comes equipped with a USB charging port.
If the sound becomes low while in use, follow the procedure below.
1.Turn off the speaker.
2.Charge the built-in battery sufficiently.

Disappointing for the price

The bass is too heavy and overpowers the other qualities of sound too much. And what makes it worse is that it doesn't have a headphone jack. I was hoping I could connect it to my laptop with a 3.5mm jack but nope I can't. And connecting to my laptop through Bluetooth made my speaker sound like sheit The only device it sounds good on is smartphones and mobile devices.

Download the Sony Music Center app, and you can actually fine tune the sound of your XB33 to your liking. There is a built in EQ that has 20 points of control for Bass, Midrange, and Treble. You can also enjoy 3 different sound effects. When you purchase the speaker, the EXTRA BASS mode is set.
STAMINA - (EXTRA BASS OFF) - Power saving
EXTRA BASS - (EXTRA BASS ON) (factory default settings) - Heavy bass sound
LIVE SOUND - (EXTRA BASS ON) - Realistic sound
To switch the sound effect from EXTRA BASS mode to STAMINA mode, press and hold the LIVE/STAMINA button for about 3 seconds. The STAMINA indicator lights up in orange, and the sound effect switches to the STAMINA mode.

We're sorry, but this unit doesn't feature an AUDIO IN jack. It is a Bluetooth only model. However, our XB43, XB12, XB22, XB32, or the XB41 does.

Good sound, not loud enough

For the price I would just buy two less expensive ones for stereo sound. I returned the speaker in order to buy a more powerful one.

This is something our music-loving customers appreciate most. That being said the XB33 also gets very loud for its size and audio precision. We want to make sure you are getting the most out of your speaker. By downloading the Sony Music Center app, you will find all sorts of tools like an equalizer to fine-tune the XB33 and maximize the volume to your liking.
Make sure you fully charge the speaker, especially after it has gone below 10%, and hit the auto volume limiter (designed to keep your speaker safe). Then Increase the volume level of the wireless speaker and source devices.
You may also find different devices will perform better than others, as will different apps due to different types of audio compression and transmission.

Overall this speaker is cool with the lights and battery life but its not very loud at all. For the price tag you’d expect serious sound but no not this unit. Indoors it sounds ok but I took it out to the beach and you could barely hear the music. The JBL flip is much louder. I only went with Sony bcuz my jbl flip 4 died.
