A Great Sounding Speaker to Use While You Work

I wanted to replace the wired speakers I had been using so I could cut down on wired connections and cords. After looking at alternatives, I chose this product because of my previous experience with Sony. I was not disappointed. This speaker has been everything I wanted. It connected easily with my laptop and has performed flawlessly since the day I purchased the speaker. The sound is very good, with crisp, clear audio output. It is no competition for a high-end audio system but has better than expected sound quality for listening to music while I work.

The quality of sound is good, and the light show it gives just adds to the over all experience. The only con it has is the battery doesn't last very long, but even so its still a decent battery if you dont blast the volume. I would definitly recommend it.

It talks to you, I wasn’t expecting that but was pleasantly surprised. It lights up and there is a button to turn them off if you’d like. But every time I look up something on the phone it stops playing music. I would suggest using a separate device with the speaker if this is a concern as it is for me. You can take calls with this speaker but I don’t intend to use this function. Overall very nice. Charging wire is very short. I put mine on the ottoman up against the wall near the outlet. Will need to get a longer cord. I would suggest keeping it covered when not in use to prevent dust from entering through the mesh.

We tried it out immediately and were impressed with how great it sounds. We tried different areas of the room and it is louder with it somewhat up against a wall. The light feature is fun too. The app is great and easy to use, and you can adjust the lights and sound settings. The battery life isn’t as long as advertised, but that could be due to using the light features. I’m sure if lights are static or turned off the battery will last longer. Apparently you can sync this with other sony speakers on same app and have music in different rooms - would be curious to try this out soon. Overall, very pleased with this speaker and would recommend.

Although it is portable it is a bit bigger than my other two portable speakers. It produces great sound with a full booming bottom end. The clarity and separation are pretty good too. It can be moved about freely and it's projection, (range), will surprise you while still maintaining it's great sound. I have tried it in many situations and it performs in all of them. The flashing speaker and rim lights might surprise you but they only contribute to the sound experience. A wonderful addition to my speaker collection especially for the cost. OH! Try the live setting, you won't be dissapointed.

Having my new speaker is amazong because I can be in the garage qorking and still hear music over all the noise.

Bigger than I wanted/Awkward Design

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.My previous SONY SRS-XR30 BT Speaker was Perfect for my needs; was easy to hold,/carry, in spite of my arthritic hands; it was stable to sit on just about..., anywhere, and had features the newer model doesn't have; its battery life was twice as long as this SONY SRS-XR33--It also lasted me 3 years, before the battery quit charging. It's unfortunate the aforementioned model is no longer made. The new model SRS-XB33 Doesn't have Aux Out, has little cheap-looking molded buttons I cannot see w/o my Glasses. Its Micro USB -USB-C plug is quite short, stiff and awkward. The speaker has a LOOSE, UNPROTECTED side flap (possibly midrange woofers?) on each end---I cannot imagine how it can be Water Resistant. Its rear Power and connectors area has a very awkward flap which won't sit properly, and hits both the inserted cables (Micro USB female plug, for power in), and its adjacent (USB C female plug, for extra device charging--which I do not recommend using when the unit is not connected to a power outlet, as it uses up the speaker's battery to half as long as stated to last. (A bit of an Editorializing here: I wish all these companies would spend less effort (and inside space), in useless lights, and "party modes," and concentrate on High Quality, design, Longevity, Parts Interchangeability, (REPAIRABILITY), and of course, Great Audio Fidelity. (And to think this was the best choice I'd found after an exhaustive three-week sustained search for the best possible, in its price range. I'm returning it!

We're so sorry to hear about what happened with your SRS-XR30 and if the design and functions of our XB33 did not meet your expectations.
Aux out: We do currently have a similar sized speaker with Aux out. The SRS-XB31 Portable BLUETOOTH® Speaker. You may check out its full features and specifications on this link https://www.sony.com/electronics/wireless-speakers/srs-xb31.
Both the XB33 and XB31 have similar buttons. These were changed so that you could feel the difference between the buttons, without having to look at the device. It also makes it easier to use when you are visually impaired.
Both the XB31, and XB33 are Waterproof and Dustproof for your peace of mind.
The sides of the XB33 house passive radiators which help with lower frequencies.
Despite this, you can stand the XB33 on its side, this may help you access the charging ports more easily.
The USB charging port does drain the battery as it uses the internal battery to charge other devices.
This can be useful while camping, during a black out, or you simply forgot to charge your phone.

Exactly what I was looking for

I needed speakers to go with my outdoor projector. The ones I had worked but the sound didn't match the mouth movement. Speakers work great and sound matches video. Bought two and they communicate with each other providing stereo sound. Several other reviews mention speakers not being loud enough. I have them on either side of my pool. I can hear everything perfectly. Including when in the spa with jets on and pump and A/C unit running. Only one slight gripe. Sometimes when I lower the volume it doesn't come back up to full volume and I have to disconnect and reconnect to get it back to full volume.

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The last wireless/bluetooth speaker I bought for myself was the 'Logitech Wireless Boombox' in 2011/2012, it is still working to this day after many trips to the beach, hiking, nail-polish dripping into the speaker...but I decided I was ready for a new speaker with updated tech and a better battery life. I have heard music on several generations of 'JBL Flip' but wanted something a little bigger and with better sound quality. 'JBL Charge 4' or 'UE Megaboom 3' were the other speakers I was considering and had listened to music on at friends houses. After reading many reviews, comparing all specs, features, and apps on several portable speakers (within my price range) I landed on the Sony XB33. I wish the audio quality was a bit less 'muddy' at a higher volume BUT I have yet to try the app for the speaker (which I've heard makes a difference for the EQ/Audio quality). I still would choose this Sony XB33 over others.
