I haven't tried to test the waterproof part of the speaker but it is constructed well and the speaker seems and feels sturdy.

I loved the sound from the Best Buy display but I was told I could not connect it directly to my new Sony stereo receiver. A little complicated for me to go thru to the other options so I returned the item. Just operator issue not product.

While we're glad you like the incredible audio quality of the speaker, we're sorry to know that the unit had to be returned. If you have the STR-DH190, DH590, or DH790, these models doesn't have a capability to output sound to Bluetooth speaker. You can only receive audio from a WALKMAN, smartphone, or tablet that has a BLUETOOTH function and listen to the received audio content via these Stereo Receivers. Unlike the STRDN-1080, it has Bluetooth Transmitter mode which you can enjoy listening to audio from AV devices connected to the receiver via BLUETOOTH headphones/speakers.

Great quality and music sounds great. Too bad the max volume is low. Best for indoor use, sounds even lower outside. Battery life is also really good. I returned mine because of the max volume issue.

The XB33 was designed to be a very balanced speaker with a focus on both vocal clarity & the Extra Bass you know and love as a Sony customer.
If you haven't, to get the most out of this speaker, please make sure you have downloaded the Sony Music Center app. There you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune your XB33 and maximize the volume to your liking. There is even an EQ.
Please make sure you fully charge the speaker, especially after it has gone below 10%, and hit the auto volume limiter (designed to keep your speaker battery healthy & safe).
Then Increase the volume level of the wireless speaker and source devices. You may also find different devices will perform better than others, as will different apps due to different types of audio compression and transmission.
We appreciate you, and we are hoping you will consider Sony again in your future purchase!

Also, after a while of playing the volume seems to drop, probably due to the batteries only being strong the first hour or so.

Please note: The maximum power output will be lower when the built-in battery is running low. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction. If such a case occurs, turn off the speaker and let the battery fully charge itself before you use the speaker.
The XB33 is specifically designed for audio clarity throughout its volume range. This is something our music loving customers appreciate most. That being said the XB33 also gets very loud for its size and audio precision.
