It is unfortunate to hear our XB33 EXTRA BASS™ Portable BLUETOOTH® Speaker did not meet your expectations. The XB33 was designed to be a very balanced speaker with focus on both vocal clarity & the Extra Bass you know and love as a Sony customer.

If you haven't, to get the most out of your speaker, please make sure you have downloaded the Sony Music Center app. There you will find all sorts of tools like an equalizer to fine-tune your XB33 and maximize the volume to your liking.

Please make sure you fully charge the speaker, especially after it has gone below 10%, and hit the auto volume limiter (designed to keep your speaker battery healthy & safe).

Then Increase the volume level of the wireless speaker and source devices. You may also find different devices will perform better than others, as will different apps due to different types of audio compression and transmission.

For the battery issue: When fully charged, the speaker has an available operating time of about 24 hours when the volume level of the speaker is set to 36, lighting function is set to off, and the sound effect is set to STAMINA. About 14 hours when the volume is set to 35, the lighting function is set to on (factory default settings), and the sound effect is set to EXTRA BASS (factory default settings). And you will get about 4 hours of use when the volume level of the speaker is set to maximum (50), lighting function is set to on (factory default settings), and sound effect is set to EXTRA BASS (factory default settings).

The actual performance time may vary due to the volume, songs played, the surrounding temperature, and usage conditions.

If you haven't yet, you can also test this with a different source to confirm the issue. Please make sure that the speaker is fully charged, especially after it has gone below 10%, and hit the auto volume limiter (designed to keep your speaker battery healthy & safe). We also recommend downloading the Sony Music Center app to fine-tune the sound of the XB33 to your liking. There is a built-in EQ that has 20 points of control for Bass, Midrange, and Treble.

Depending on the music, the EXTRA BASS effects may not be so noticeable. To switch the sound effect from STAMINA mode to EXTRA BASS mode, press and hold the LIVE/STAMINA button for about 3 seconds. The STAMINA indicator will turn off and the sound effect will be switched back to EXTRA BASS mode.

As it turns out, even if music playback from the speaker is in progress, the speaker's built-in battery is capable of charging itself as long as the speaker is connected to an AC outlet by a USB AC adaptor or to a computer that comes equipped with a USB charging port. This means you can still bring uninterrupted powerful sound to any space with your XB33 Wireless Speaker. When you purchase the speaker, the EXTRA BASS mode is set. If you feel that the bass is not sufficient, please try to follow the troubleshooting steps below.
