This product was nice but not totally what I wanted. The sound was subpar. I wanted to use it for an outdoor projector but it would not sync wirelessly by Bluetooth. I had to return it and get something else.

So, I have an older Sony SRS-XB41 speaker that I love and use all the time. The XB33, can't really hold a candle to it. I like the size of it. It looks really good, and Sony's build quality is great. The ports and buttons on the back and behind the door are well thought out, and arranged nicely. The buttons feel solid and have a good feel to them. There's three buttons, batt/light, party mode and stereo mode. There's also a USB DC out port that lets you charge your phone while you charge the speaker and a USB C charging port. The speaker comes with nice lighting affects and you can turn them off if you don't want to see them or keep them on for a nice party feel. This speaker also comes with two very cool modes. Party mode and Stereo mode. To use either of them you need to buy and pair an additional Sony Bluetooth speaker or speakers (apparently up to 100). I would have really liked to have tried either of these modes out but I don't have another compatible Sony speaker. The SRS-XB41 speaker I already own is NOT compatible (and actually, there are only a handful of Sony speakers that are, so if you want to use these modes, make sure you get a speaker you can use). In stereo mode, you can pair this speaker with another one, and get true stereo sound (different left and right channels). In party mode you can actually pair up to 100 of these guys and play the same music on all of them (albeit in mono). I like the buttons on the top as well. They are easy to press and the small LED indicators on top are nice and bright so that you get good feedback from them. I like that it has an IP67 waterproof rating, which makes it a great choice for around pools or camping. What I'm not sold on is the sound. This is not an inexpensive speaker and for the price I really expected much better sound. The SRS-XB41 was a far superior choice and I'm sure some of the slightly larger speakers in this series would be comparable. For me, the sound quality is just not there. The bass is thin and sounds like you'd expect on a speaker this size. The Live Sound mode adds a spacious feel to the sound but doesn't really improve the bass response. Sony makes a lot of good quality Bluetooth speakers, but my advise would be to go with a different model, or at the very least, listen before you buy. That being said, if you're looking for a small Bluetooth speaker with adequate sound, great features and great build quality that's sure to last you for years, then this might be a good choice for you.

All bad use the speaker for two months. It does not even charge to turn on. I threw it in the trash in F trash.

I returned the unit because it wasn't loud enough. When I played it in the store it seemed to be ok. When I played it at home it sounded different.

Sony - SRS-XB33 Portable Bluetooth Speaker - Black The Sony SRS-XB33 is a few generations after the SRS-XB31. The sound quality from the SRS-XB33 is clean and clear with plenty of bass and in live mode, fills the area nicely with full sound. The lighting is not the same as the older models but is still adjustable to suite your needs. Although the sound is cleaner and more filling than the older SRS-XB31, the new SRS-XB33 does not seem to have the raw volume of the older unit. Not to say it doesn’t get loud, because it does, just not a loud as the older one. I believe this is from the egg-shaped speakers. Any shape other than round will create uneven stress on the cone of the speaker. Because of this I believe they have limited the max volume output. The first speakers were produced in 1861 with modifications from that point forward. Many shapes have been tried and they all ended up coming back to round. With todays technology egg-shaped is possible and usable but is still limited in raw output power. I attempted to “Party chain” my XB31 with the new XB33. It didn’t work. This is not a dig at Sony, they clearly state the 4 or 5 other speakers it will work with and the XB31 is skipped over, literally before and after but not that one. Maybe they will address this in software updates, maybe not. Bluetooth is clean and clear. I didn’t use the NFC connection because Bluetooth is just so easy why bother. The IP67 water proofing was tested by me dunking it in the SPA for a few seconds at a depth of about 18”. This is the depth of the first seat and my thought was if it gets knocked in, that’s where it’s going to end up. It will take a few seconds to get to it and remove it from the water. Because the SPA water is laced with harsh chemicals I then took it to the hose and washed it off. I did all of this while it was on and playing music. I then shook off the excess water and put it back to continue playing and dry off. It passed with flying colors, the water had no effect on it. Downloading all of the Apps that it uses was a little on the pointless side for me. I couldn’t do Party chain and I’m not into DJ mode so the Apps were used to equalize the sound a bit and put the lighting where I wanted it. It has been running on one charge for 5 days now, for a total of about 20 hours. The battery still states 50% charge. It is not played loud and the lights are set for 1 color and no flashing lights on the speakers. Live mode is turned on. Overall it is a good sounding speaker but doesn’t give the raw volume output of the XB31. With that said, it does sound better than the XB31. So the tradeoff is raw volume for sound quality. The use I’m using it for does not require extra loud listening levels. There is no party going on and your not more than 8 feet away from the speaker at any time. If you require loud levels you might need to look elsewhere. If your looking for a small good sounding speaker the SRS-XB33 will fill your needs.

You're paying for the name. There's plenty of other speakers that are not as expensive and sounds just the same and work just the same

Works but souded much louder in store . Got it home in garage door ipen sitting on bike couldn't hear it at all . Returned for different speaker

This speaker is not loud at all! Even at half volume you cannot hear a thing and at full volume you can kind of hear the music. I put the settings to be as loud as possible and still the music was not coming out how it sounded at best buy. I am returning this speaker and getting another brand.

The new gen SRS-XB33 makes some basic improvements over previous models. A few things to watch for however... first of all they got rid of the auxiliary jack. Not a deal breaker but I do have a couple of devices that could use the hardline connection since they don't have Bluetooth or NFC. The other disappointment is that the latest gen isn't compatible with the older gen if you want to connect them together in Party Connect mode. Since I have a previous model I was hoping to use them in tandem in stereo mode. Other than that the rest of the features are rock solid. It's waterproof and dust proof so off to the pool or beach or even camping and it's right at home. With the extra bass mode you can really get a room thumping. You get even more out of it when you use the Sony Music Center app for tablet or smartphone. I experienced no problems with the Bluetooth as the speakers paired right away with my phone and digital player. The LED lighting is a great feature if you are into that and if you aren't there is a button on the back of the speaker where you can turn off the lights and just focus on the amazing sound. Back to the Party Connect feature... if it would work with my previous gen speaker I'd be able to link them both in sound and lighting but again they are only linkable if they are the same generation. There are custom settings for the lights (random flashing or in a circle) and if you want each speaker independent or you can place in stereo mode where some speakers are left channel and some are right channel. In fact you can connect up to 100 speakers but only if they are Sony's SRS-XB43, SRS-XB33, or SRS-XB23. Pretty cool if you have a bunch of friends with same gen speakers. At just under $150 MSRP they are a great deal just wish they had opened up the compatibility to previous gens and left in the Aux jack.

I have always been a big fan of the Sony Bluetooth speakers. They have big sound for a small price tag compared to others. If you've ever owned one of these before, right out of the box you'll be able to use it with no instruction. If you're new to the Sony speakers, you'll be up and running in a matter of minutes after browsing through the user manual. You just have to turn on the speaker, then go in your phone to the Bluetooth settings. It will show up and you just click it to connect to it. It's as simple as that. Now every time you turn on the speaker and your phones Bluetooth is on, it will connect to it. You will be amazed at the sound quality, especially if you've used other speakers at this price point. It has a nice full sound, especially when the extra bass is on. You'll get all the highs, mids and lows represented and balanced perfectly. You dont get a lot of EQ settings, but you can turn the extra bass on and off and there is also a live sound mode which kind of adds a little reverb and makes the sound bigger. I never really use that setting though. As far as the build quality and durability, these epakers are also unmatched in this price range. I have dropped it, I have taken it in the shower with me, I even got some mud on it and rinsed it off in the sink and it is still good as new and works perfectly. The only small concern I have is the speakers on each side arent covered with any kind of grille so if it were to get dropped the right way something could puncture those speakers. Overall, I love the way the speaker looks, sounds, and the durability. The battery life is awesome, and it even has a cool light show if you choose to use it. I think its a little gimmicky, but im sure some people like it. Definitely by this if you are looking for a bluetooth speaker in this price range. You wont be disappointed!

The Sony - SRS-XB33 Portable Bluetooth Speaker - Black is a powerful portable speaker that produces quality sound with plenty of volume. The Bass is thumping as soon as the music plays. It is a well designed and engineered device. It also has a flashing light function to enhance the music experience. Syncing was as simple as pressing the power/ pairing button to initiate the pairing process and then press SRS-XB33 on the screen of my android device to complete the pairing. I also connected the Sony - SRS-XB33 Portable Bluetooth Speaker - Black to the Sony Music Center app that gives more control over the speaker’s total functionality. Pressing the play/pause button two times advances the playlist, while pressing the play/pause button three times plays the previous track. The volume is “boom box” loud and it is loud enough to provide a decent volume to fill an average sized room with a pure clear and rich sound quality of whatever type of audio you are listening. There is also a way to connect multiple Sony - SRS-XB33 Portable Bluetooth Speaker - Black Speakers together to place them over a wide area, which is a dynamic way to have surround sound. I enjoy using my Sony - SRS-XB33 Portable Bluetooth Speaker - Black.

A decent speaker but not as loud as I would have preferred. Average is the best way to describe it.

I use this speaker daily in my home while working. It will randomly lose volume and play quietly. Ive had it for less than a year and am looking for a replacement already. I HATE wasting money and this was a waste. Very disappointing

Disappointed by the sound. The employees said this was better than the other one I was looking at. Its a great speaker, but not worth the money. I would have pent more to get something better. I did not realize the return policy was so limited with a turn around timeframe.
