Customers are saying

Customers love the SRS-XB41 Portable Bluetooth Speaker's sound quality, long battery life, and impressive bass. Many also appreciate its ease of use, portability, and the fun lighting features. While some found the price a bit high and the weight noticeable, the positive feedback on sound and convenience outweighs these minor drawbacks. The speaker's water resistance is also a frequently praised feature.

The XB41 couldn't be any more perfect. It's lightweight, the Bluetooth range is almost 100 feet, it had a talking battery indicator, the lights, the bass, the sound! Easy to setup as well. No issues. Great Bluetooth speaker!

This is a great little speaker as it is. I'm not a fan of the live stage as it sounds lack luster, loss of mids and plenty of echo sounds. The party booster mode where you tap on it 5 different ways and it makes drum and snare sounds seems dumb to me but that's just my two cents. I want to listen to music not screw it up. I totally dig the light effects, makes it that much better, specially in the shower, really livens things up. I wish the mic would integrate into my laptop when using the speaker for zoom but other than that I have zero complaints. The speaker sounds great for its small footprint, takes a beating and the battery must be from TESLA because it doesn't seem to quit. Thanks SONY.

The XB31 allows you to turn the light bars off thru the app, for some reason that capability is not there with the XB41. There are a few other capabilities with the smaller speaker that is missing here. HOWEVER, the speaker has fantastic sound, the whole reason to buy a speaker is the sound. Right? The "live" setting is very powerful, but turning it off seems to give a better all around sound. The app is pretty disappointing with this speaker though. I would like to see a equalized added in similar to what is used with the Sony headphones. There is a Fiesta add-on that really adds very little to the experience. Well, it adds some wonky controls. I would like to give 3 1/2 stars based on missing functionality and odd app choices, but all those gripes can be fixed with some app fixing by Sony. I am dropping a full star because the smaller XB-31 speaker feels like a more complete experience, but the XB-41 has much more power and fills a room much easier. If you are looking portable go with the smaller. If you are looking to fill the room with minor sacrifices currently in function...Go big or go home.

i originally bought the Sony xb10 based on the low price and good reviews. well, the reviews were crap! and so was that speaker! they tried to pack to much base into a very small speaker, as i watched it move across the table sounding horribly all i could do is shake my head. i took it back to BestBuy with plans to buy anything but another Sony, i walked around and compared all of the speakers in the store a few times over, walking past the Sonys and not even giving them a chance. i really didn't like the sound of any of them, surprised i didn't even like the jbl speakers, they crackled when i turned them up to loud. i was about to say forget it and walk out of the store, and decided i might as well laugh at the Sonys too before i left. i was surprised by the sound of this xb41 speaker! a little to much bass when it came to vocals, but it was the best i had heard while i was there so i decided to take it home and have a listen in a smaller area. when i connected to my phone with the bluetooth it wanted me to install an app. when i opened the app i saw i could adjust the sound, bass boost, bass, mid, treble. i was able to get the vocals to sound satisfactory and was surprised how powerful the bass hit and how loud the speaker could be turned up, i was worried the neighbors might complain! quite pleased with this purchase! However if it weren't on sale for 100.00 off i wouldn't have purchased. i feel 100-150 is a good price for this speaker.

    My new favorite speaker!

I love these new speakers from Sony! I have the smaller version of this speaker as well and loved it, but I wanted something with a little more oomph, so I picked this one up too. One cool feature right off the bat is that you can connect the 2 together and simultaneously play music on multiple speakers! Right out of the box you will love the way these speakers look, I ordered the blue version, although when you look at it, it is more like a teal-ish color. Its covered in this nice mesh fabric, but it is still very durable. You can drop this in the bathtub, run it under the faucet (yes, I tried it), get dirt on it. This is a very well made and solid speaker! The overall sound of the speaker is the best I have ever heard from any Bluetooth speaker. I have owned all the major smart speakers as well as many various other standalone Bluetooth speakers and this one blows all of them away. It has a very nice punchy bass and the mids and highs are evenly represented as well. It has a very well balanced sound. I know a lot of speakers labeled as extra bass are nothing but bass...this is not one of those speakers! This speaker also will literally fill a large room with sound. I don't know how it does it...but you can be anywhere in the room and hear the speaker crisp and clear! The app that comes with the speaker also has a lot of features you dont find on other speakers. As I mentioned before you have the ability to link multiple speakers together. You also get a 3 band EQ control which I love! It helps you fine tune your bass and give it a little extra punch. You can also switch between the extra bass and "live" sound. I prefer the extra bass setting. There is also the party booster feature where you can tap different parts of the speaker and it will play electronic drum sounds or cowbells and things like that. It's cool, but a bit of a novelty. I found myself playing with it right away, but I haven't used it since. It also doesn't always work the greatest and you really have to smack the speaker hard to get it to work. The light show is also a bit of a novelty feature, but I find it to look pretty cool and leave it on most of the time. There are different color settings and things in the app that you can change the lights to in order to suit your needs. You will need to have that off though in order to get the full 24 hours of playback that Sony claims you can get. Overall, I would say this is the best of the best when it comes to Bluetooth speakers in this price range. Go to the store and listen to it and im sure you will be just as amazed as I am!

    Extremely Solid Portable Speaker

The Sony - SRS-XB41 is an extremely solid portable bluetooth speaker. Basic set-up and pairing was smooth and painless, as was using the Music Center and Fiestable apps. The sound is strong, full, and high-fidelity. As to be expected with the 'Extra Bass' name, it projects excellent bass underneath without overwhelming the core sound. It's simply enjoyable to listen to. The battery life is long-lasting - it just keeps on playing. It has some interesting novelties for party environments. 1) multi-color lighting that can be set to automatically follow a variety of patterns, or manually controlled, and 2) the ability to tap 5 points on the unit and hear 5 different percussion sounds. These can be customized and are, apparently, aimed at adding 'spice' to a party setting. I found this mostly a curiosity for the XB41. It's 3-pound weight makes it less likely that someone will spend much time using this feature. Also, it takes more of a 'thump' than a 'tap' to get the sounds to play. On the 1-pound XB21, which I also have, I found this feature more usable and fun. Another feature I thoroughly enjoyed was pairing up the two speakers I have (XB41 & XB21). I found the set up for this to be challenging and almost gave up. Thankfully, I finally found instructions on the Sony website that worked for me. Using both speakers together delivers a thoroughly enjoyable surround sound experience. You can add a large number of speakers in this series together for an expansive saturation of sound. Again, this seems to be aimed particularly at a party application. For my use, the party applications are not significant. This is simply a solid, great-sounding bluetooth speaker that fills whatever space it's in with surprisingly high-quality sound. A joy to listen to.

5 Stars For Sound Quality Alone!

I followed the setup instructions and charged the XB-41 up first, then began the task of pairing it to my phone with Bluetooth. The XB-41 was sitting on my lap....some lights were lit and pulsing a bit. When I selected "Sweet Angel" from the new Jimi Hendix album to play from my media server on my PC, it hesitated for a second. What happened next amazed me--this thing came alive with lights and incredible bass and vibration while still on my lap, almost startling me. I could not believe the BIG sound and bass coming from this thing! While it is way bigger than the Beats Pill or something similar, it is still a fairly small (a little bigger than a foot long.) My parents had a pricey Bose Wave back when most people didn't have $300 to blow on such a thing--but this XB-41 totally blows what I recall of the Wave away as far as audio quality. And the lights--moving and pulsing to the song you are playing--it's just that cool. I can see this product taking it's place in "parking lot parties" since it would fit on your dashboard easily and the light show get you some attention. The first thing I thought of was driving on the beach at night with it--but most places don't let you do that. The lights are easily seen in daylight but they are more impressive in the dark obviously. Sony's Feistable app allows you to produce a range of DJ and EDM noises, lighting effects and beats, and the Sony Music Center app also allows you to access some functions. Some of the sounds can be produced by tapping on the XB-41 itself. The literature shows it can be "daisy-chained" with up to 100 more XB-41s or compatible devices. I can imagine a room with dozens of these playing the same audio. Quite a party I bet.... It is somewhat waterproof, resisting sprayed or immersed water damage to some extent, though it says to avoid pool water, seawater etc. It has a washable fabric covering to it. There is a rubber-type "hatch" that seals closed, and the connections for USB, included AC adapter charger, audio line in etc. are inside it. I almost ditched one star due to the XB-41's lack of an audio-out jack. But the fun of it and the beautiful sound quality made me want to keep the 5-star rating. It really could use a remote--but the idea is you need a device to use it for Bluetooth so your device is your remote. This thing is fun, with the plus of Sony's great attention to audio quality.

Best Portable Speaker Ever Invented. The Sound is Amazing, the Bass powers through Walls & is very Precise in sound. The Speaker is water proof with a legitimate rating. My only knock against the Speaker is that: When the power gets at 30% then the Volume can only Max out at 50%. So the Party ain't a Party if the battery is at 30% or less.

    SMALL PACKAGE - AWESOME SOUND!

SONY has designed a truly remarkable wireless/bluetooth speaker! The small package weighs less than 3.5 lbs. and is engineered in a way that really pumps out the sound and is easy to tote anywhere. There are a couple of Apps available (Fiestable & Music Center) in which you can wirelessly control not only the sound settings but also how the different lights work. NOTE: You can also use the speaker without using any lights. The speaker is stated to run up to 24 hours on a single charge (without the lights) and for me, this is way more than enough. I also believe it will never run out of charge for most people, even the "Party Animals" The Speaker & perimeter border lights will also sync to your music and can be adjusted to your liking in the App., It also has flashing strobe lights. With the Apps, you can also control setting up your playlist and jumping to cue up different songs in the list as well as changing the sound modes. SONY also incorporated what they call "Party Chain" in which you can wirelessly connect up to 100 of these speakers together & the music and lights will all sync up together for a huge party atmosphere! This is an awesome feature in itself as a lot of other BT/Wireless speakers don't have this capability at all. This is a very well designed unit that Sony has obviously come up with. Not only because of the options you'll have available through the Apps, but most importantly the fantastic sound this small package pumps out! Sound options include: Standard, Live & Extra Bass (XB) The XB puts a little more "Depth" into your music without over powering the mids & highs, which to me is extremely important with my music! I will say that the sound produced still sounds great in all settings but I did notice that depending on room placement parameters and different genres of music, different settings sound better than the others for each situation....But is easily accomplished with a touch of the button or a Tap on the App! I like this speaker enough that I believe I will at least purchase 1 more of these for a more "Party Chained" Stereo surround sound. *Gotta have my Tunes!

Out of the box, I connected to my iPhone and streamed a little music. Bass. Wow, bass. Maybe too much bass. I didn't bother downloading the app for the phone, which is only necessary if you want to use some of the features that I ultimately used. After downloading the app, I flattened out the EQ and turned off the light show feature of the speaker. I really wanted a remote speaker rather than an optical show. But that was easily accomplished and I use the speaker up in our bathroom in the mornings to catch up on new music or just the news. At this price point, I thought that Sony would have included a travel case or travel sleeve, but that was not the case. Maybe a suggestion for Sony going forward that a little protection could be appreciated by owners who want to pack this guy for a trip.

I am blown away by the sound this portable speaker produces. It is, by far, the best Bluetooth speaker I have ever used. The party mode and lighting are great, but pairing it with another speaker (SRS-XB31) made it SO much better. The speakers were perfectly synced to allow expanded sound coverage. The app is a little tricky to use, but I figured out how to use the buttons on the back of the speaker to link them together, and have had no problems setting them up that way.

Hi Hailey, we're sorry to hear that you returned the unit. The issue could be fixed by initializing the unit. With the speaker turned on, press and hold the – (volume) button and the (power) button/ PAIRING button at the same time for more than 5 seconds until the speaker turns off. The XB41 features EXTRA BASS for deep, punchy sound, and its battery can last up to 24 hours. It is waterproof and dustproof for your peace of mind. You may also control the lighting and add DJ effects, all with just a few taps on the Sony Music Center App then the Fiestable App. ~Earl Sony_US

I love this Bluetooth speaker. It has an amazing sound. I personally don't care for the LED lights, but many people who have seen them in action think they are pretty cool. One feature I really like is the ability to "chain" them together. I setup a speaker group with a SRS-XB31 and a GTK-XB90, and filled my entire house with sound. The "Music Center" app works fairly well. It allows you to customize the sound, LED lights, and setup speakers groups.

Let me start off by saying that I've tried multiple speakers that claim to have the best sound. This one is definitely one you don't want to pass up. It comes with a charging cable that plugs into the wall, unlike the smaller 21 model, and is ready to pair the second you turn it on. You really do need to download the companion apps to take advantage of the light and sound features. You'll find that there are ways to "tone" down the lighting effects, and enabling the "clear" audio option really does make the speaker sound exceptionally better. Live mode does its best to create a 3D like sound, as if you're at a live showing, but doesn't really make it sound any better. The app experience is where I tended to have the most trouble. Once you've paired the speaker, you're able to launch the app and see that it auto-discovers the speaker. However, I found that it would go into "setup required" frequently, necessitating that I turn off bluetooth and turn it back on for the app to work. I'm using an iPhone X, with the newest firmware, and still had this issue happen on both the 41 model and the 21 model. I also couldn't get the chain feature to work. It requires that you pair all the compatible speakers, and then do a group. However, without fail, the "Needs Setup" bug would come back almost immediately. This once again requires that you turn on/off or re-pair the speaker to get the app to stop showing the message. When it does the "Needs Setup" it will show your speaker in the app menu, twice, and not be able to connect or change any settings, at all. The speaker continues to broadcast any audio playing from your phone, but the app itself just gives up trying to connect. When I raised the issue to Sony's support, I was told to reinstall the app (which doesn't resolve this issue). The other Party like features, with the tapping, and hitting, where hit or miss. I found that the speaker would pick up the taps about 1 out every 3 times attempted. Not sure if there is a limit between taps, but it made the feature more frustrating than fun. It's a great sounding speaker, and for the price, would be a great addition for a relaxing space where you want to listen to some music. However, the app experience was the reason I gave it a 4 star review. You need the app to change EQ settings, the lights, etc, but the constant repairing really made using the app pointless.

    The Sony SRS-XB41 is AWESOME!

I had bought a smaller Sony SRS-XB3 speaker about 3 years ago. It sounds wonderful! I have always been impressed by the sound the SRS-XB3 speaker system can make. At the time I bought it, there were none with lights built in like this SRS-XB41. When I wanted to buy this model, my wife says "WHY? the one you have already sounds great!" She was correct. I already had a speaker that I loved. But the lights add a whole new dimension to music. It sounds better then my old speaker because it's bigger, but The SRS-XB41 is SO MUCH MORE FUN! IT'S LIKE WE GOT A NEW TOY! We both love the colors and all the different lighting modes we can pick. We can also shut off the lights if we want to. The SRS-XB41 is AWESOME! Buy one...you'll love it!
