Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a JBL Flip 5 about a year ago to use for various reasons, but after a while I found that I was using it primarily as a TV speaker for my Samsung TV because it does a really great job for that purpose. I bought this to upgrade hoping to get a little more sound and bass. What a disappointment. This thing is barely louder despite being 5 times bigger, and it pops and crackles and the sound gets out of sync so your hear the sound of what people are saying, then a couple of seconds later you see their lips move. Will definitely be returning. I've tried troubleshooting over the internet and no solution has helped. It plays perfectly fine for a short time then all of a sudden it gets all poppy and crackly. My JBL plays flawlessly all of the time. I even tried wiring it directly through the 3.5mm input but it wouldn't even play as loud as the TV's built in speakers. Music doesn't even sound that good through my phone either. Swing and a miss Sony.

First one was defective. This one might as well be defective too. On a full charge the volume doesn’t go up all the way. When you get phone calls the volume also doesn’t reset to it’s full capacity. You have to turn off the device then turn it back on.

To get the most out of the volume, please try the different sound modes found in the Sony Music Center app, until you find the one you like for indoor and outdoor settings. There is even an EQ in there. You may also try the STEREO PAIR in which 2 SRS-XB43 speakers are required. By connecting 2 speakers via BLUETOOTH connection, you can enjoy a more powerful sound. Lastly, the XB43 is indeed waterproof. If the kids accidentally knock the XB43 in the pool, have no fear, it floats! Thank you for choosing Sony! -Jess

Good Bluetooth Speaker

Sounds are fuller and stronger. I like having more controls on the speaker itself. One downside is that it is bigger and heavier, thus less portable.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.So I just received my Sony Extra Bass SRS-XB43 Bluetooth speaker today and I love it so much. First off this thing is a behemoth of a speaker. Very solid and durable and its got the weight to prove it. Along with the usual user documentation is the speaker as well as the charging adapter. This time around, the charging adapter is USB-C. If you have ever used one of these similar Sony speakers, then using this is a gonna be a piece of cake. For those that aren't tech savvy, just put your mobile device (or TV) into Bluetooth pairing mode as well as the Sony speaker by holding down the Bluetooth button on top. The blue flashing light lets you know that its in pairing mode. The name of the speaker SRS-XB43 should pop up in your Bluetooth menu and you're connected. On top of the speaker is the power on/off button, the Bluetooth button (for pairing), the speakerphone/voice assistant button, -/+ volume buttons, and the LIVE button. In the back panel that flips open, you will find a DC Out Only port, an Audio port, the USB-C Charging port, Battery, Party, and St Pair (stereo). Download the companion apps (Sony Music Center, and Fiestable) from either the Apple App Store on iOS or the Google Play Store on Android. Both apps allow you control over the light show or you can disable it completely, which will more than likely extend your battery life. In just a couple of hours this speaker was fully charged and ready to go. The battery life is estimated to run up to 24 hours. I've played this speaker practically all day testing and pairing it with my iPhone 11 Pro Max, my Apple TV 4K, and Macbook Air. The sound quality is beyond superb, just what I've come to expect from Sony. They did a really good job. As a speakerphone it was crystal clear and it allowed me to put my phone down as I did some laundry. The part where this speaker really shines is when that Extra Bass kicks in and boy does it. Hard even bass that's almost immersive. I totally recommend this speaker to anyone looking for a top of the line bluetooth speaker in this price range. Kudos to Sony on another great speaker.

Thank you for your time writing this review. We're sorry to hear if the charging port of your XB43 speaker is messed up. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot a potential charging port issue:
Inspect the port.
Check the cable. Be sure to use a USB Type-C cable (compliant with the USB standard) that supports the output current of your USB AC adaptor. Use of a USB AC adaptor with an output current of less than 1.5 A is not guaranteed for battery charging.
Make sure that the AC adaptor is connected securely to the speaker. Then, make sure that the AC adaptor is connected securely to an AC outlet.
Check power source. Try plugging the speaker into a different power outlet or computer's USB port to see if the issue is with the power source.
Reset the speaker.
Make sure that the speaker's software is updated as it includes key features, applications, bug fixes, and feature improvements.

Likely because the bass is REAL people, and the mini subs must have some significantly heavy magnets...but also from the battery capacity; as when fully charged - this speaker has a monster energy reserve/capacity. I've charged it only 2x in listening well over 24 hours at very high volumes. The Live Sound feature makes for some acoustically pleasing sound reproduction at any volume - with amazing clarity. Compounded with the superb bass - the sound balance and resonance out of this device must be heard for anyone who enjoys music. You can also charge your phone, tablet, laptop via the USB port on the speaker, also making it versatile in the way of a power cell/juice box. Bluetooth range is outstanding. Hands-free calling is great too. Should you get a call while paired with your phone; the speaker delivers clear conversation at great volume with no feedback. Yes, it has lights too. They are fun when you want them, and can be turned off when you don't. Music Center app offers more flexibility in to sound modes, playlists, etc, and the Fiestable app allows you to control colors and use hand gestures on phone to control the speaker (like skip songs, etc). I wish the apps were combined, hopefully at some point in the future. You do not need either app however to use a majority of the features of this device. This is a must have Bluetooth speaker for the pool, beach, biking, boating,etc. I will probably bungie it to our snowmobile in the winter too!
