Wireless party speaker with Google Assistant
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony SRS-XB501G is a great wireless Bluetooth speakers with Google Assistant. You need to download the Google Home app if you want to setup the Google Assistant part of it. But you do need Sony Music Center app to setup and modify any settings for this speaker. It has a sub-woofer and two satellite speakers built into this. The Extra Bass function is good. It doesn't sound too distorted. There is a Live button on this speaker which makes you feel like you are at a concert. These speakers come with lights that are synced to the music beat. It has Chromecast built-in which makes it easy to sync with other speakers for multiple rooms. The speaker is also water and dustproof IP65 rater, which comes in handy for all those pool parties. The speaker can be charged via the USB C jack or the AC adapter, which is faster. A fully charged battery is expected to last 16 hours without the Extra Bass option. The battery button is useful if you want to know how much percentage of battery is left in the device. Overall, this is a great wireless party speaker from Sony with added Google Assistant feature.

Good For Home Not In Wide Spaces
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was using this for my hip hop class in a gymnasium when I brought it a woman noticed it and said it’s a great speaker. It’s good for home and the beach just not for big rooms because the bass and the sound isn’t loud enough

Great Wireless Portable Speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great portable speaker. I really like the ability to be able to mount this on a tripod to elevate it. It is heavy so be careful if it tips over. Setting it up was a little bit of a task as the directions tell you to setup with Google Home but after you start using it the directions also tell you to download the Sony Music app. Once you do that then you can play directly with your library on your device. Once this unit is operating it is loud and the lights operate to the sound which is like a portable DJ speaker/booth. The bass is really good so if you are not a fan you may not like the bass but you can adjust it on the Sony Music app. They have a 7 band EQ so if you want a certain sound you can get to it. Great speaker, worth the money.

Great Teen Speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Perfect speaker for the teen listener. With the extra base and live sound modes, they get optimum sounding audio while their parents yell for them to turn it down. Easy to carry around, though not the lightest thing, best left in a single position for that party, but rated to handle the dust and water of outdoor use. Thanks to Google Assistant, you don't have to stand next to the unit to change the song to something more appealing if you don't like the current selection. Of course, that has its negative effects if the voice controls are abused. You won't be disappointed from the sound coming from this speaker and the synced up lighting features. You might even develop some muscles if you lug this around, too much. About the only negative feature. Given the size and weight, the 16 hour battery life should serve you well, too, for most parties, at least.

Excellent Bluetooth speaker

Amazing sound.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this speaker. This speaker was bigger than I thought it would be. I guess it would be the today's of the boombox. It can loud enough to use outside. I take it to the beach and it does fine. I like that it is spash/dustproof so that I don't have worry about it getting damaged. The battery last a full day at the beach without issue even while using it to charge my phone. The speaker has really good highs and mids. The lows are also very punchy. The built in google assistant is also a nice touch. I have the google home device but this is way bigger and louder and can be taken on the go. Pairing was seamless and the Sony app was easy to use. I really like this speaker compared to some of the other brands I have used. I highly recommend this.

Best portable speaker available to date!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the box is the speaker, instructions for connection/Google Assist, and a charge cord. Out of the box, the speaker needs to be charged and it is recommended to be around wifi to set up the google assist feature and to download any current updates. First impression, the speaker looks heavy but it is actually lightweight. The handle is on the backside which makes the speaker a little heavier in the front but it is still lighter than it looks and feels. The setup is pretty simple and if you use any type of voice assist then you will know how to use this feature. The Google assist in my opinion is a great enhancement to the speaker because it like a Google Home on steroids with the incredible sound that plays through the speaker. The sound is INCREDIBLE! I played almost all genres of music and I played the Valerian movie from my laptop. Please beware that this speaker is LOUD and loud enough to fill the main floor of my living space. I could hear the music clearly in every room with the door open. There are also lights that can be manually turned off with the button on the top of the speaker. The lights play to the music and is a cool feature while listening to music. Another button on the top of the speaker is the LIVE button. Press while listening to music and the music will enhance. It is hard to describe, but I recommend that you try it out to see what you think! I was also truly impressed when I heard the sound while watching the Valerian movie. There were some parts of the movie that I had never heard before with traditional surround sound speakers. In my opinion, I think that this portable speaker would make a great soundbar. Indoor, outdoor, splash proof, 16 hours of battery life. This portable speaker to this date is one of the best speakers that I currently own and I highly recommend!

Great bluetooth speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great Bluetooth speaker as itself but I have yet to get it to work with the Google Home app for my iPhone X so far so I cant comment on that. I do think its my WIFI's fault not the speaker or the app. sound wise I think this sounds better then their older products and it sounds louder as well. The 16 hour battery life considering the size isn't bad as well and the IP65 rating is good enough for me. Don't play in submerging it in water and the speaker will be inside so the water resistance is fine for that. Sound wise this is not a flat SQ but with big bass and treble as well.

Big Booming Sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This speaker is bigger and has more bass than any other I have used. You have a Live button and it worked great to make the sound fuller and more vibrant. Google Assistant is built in and the WiFi is very powerful as from my basement to the router on the 2nd floor the connection was instant. I liked being able to say ‘Heh Google’ what’s this or what’s that when I watched a movie on TV. I can ask for this info using my phone but it is more convenient to use the Google Assistant built into this unit. I struggled and never got it to be able to make phone calls although it was connected Bluetooth-wise to my Android cell phone. When I ask it to make a call it just says ‘…sorry I can't make calls yet’ I usually can navigate a process to do things like this, so I concluded the interface is either too complicated or does not exist. However, I can easily use Google Assistant app on my phone to make a call. I can't fault this speaker for that problem however. I think it would work better with Google Fi which is a connection option but I don’t use Google Fi. It does have a great battery charge of about 15 hours and it is as easy as pressing a button to hear the current charge. It also has a USB-C two-way port on the back which is great if you need a charger for your phone. You can also turn off listening for ‘Heh Google’, and you may find out this is very useful if you are using or testing other devices and still playing music with this terrific speaker and don’t want this speaker answering. It also paired easily with my phone and an AirTV box and my Desktop PC. The lights are very nice and the lights can be turned off with a button on top of the device which is a important feature. You can use it with the Sony Music Center app. If you like you can utilize services that you pay for to give you more music capabilities. I just used Google Play Music and YouTube and it was great. I would recommend this product for bigger sound than you can get from the smaller similar gadgets.

Feature packed party speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This speaker in essence is a party speaker as its design convention radically departs from Sony speakers. Looking at the screen itself would reveal the drivers resembling a face. Some would like it some would not. And instead of a cube it is sort of roundish the size of a football or soccer ball will a handle at the back. So again, some people will not like the aesthetics of this speaker but this suits me just fine. That being said let’s now get into its performance. First of all the speaker seems to be in mono rather than stereo which is again a departure of Sony speakers this size. Quality of audio output is rather typical of the Sony sound signature, which is rather conservative. Unfortunately, the unit like most Bluetooth speakers do not have bass and treble control. But to compensate for that Sony has added a Live mode which enhances audio output. Audio output, though I cannot find any information in the manual and based on my estimate, would be around 40 watts, which is room filling and can provide a dancing mood. In support of this the speaker actually has mood lights to enhance you’re your listening experience. But the real differentiators for this model include the following. First the battery is rated (and tested by me) to last 18 hours as compare to the average 10 hours for tor this class of speakers. Second it has splash proof features which you’d normally find only in smaller speakers. And to top it all, it has Google Assistant. You wouldn’t find or at least hardly find a Google enabled smart speaker that has these feature sets. Hence, this model is a feature packed speaker which can deliver the goods. And I would not hesitate to recommend this speaker to others.

Beast of a Speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This speaker is quite large and heavy so I wouldn't really call it an on-the-go speaker (think bowling ball) and not one that I would grab for daily use as the bulk is a disadvantage. That being said, it is easily the best sounding battery powered Bluetooth speaker I have come across. It plays loud and clear and the bass surprisingly good. It has a nice deep extension, and does not distort at high volumes. It can easily fill a room with sound and has enough power to be used in the outdoors. I did't run down the battery completely but after using it for 3 hours at around 70% volume the battery charge was still at 80% which is quite good considering the sound level. The LED lighting gimmicks are just that.....gimmicks. luckily they can be turned off with the app. The app also has some equalizer and functions. The speaker uses google play which I don't use so I can't comment on those functions. I played around with "ok goggle" and asked a bunch of questions and it gave me quick accurate responses and seemed to recognize my speech fairly well. One thing I don't like is the charger it comes with. it's a 12v power brick with a cylindrical type of connector, its big and a pain to bring along. The good thing is that it can also be charged with USB-C but it didn't come with the cable or adapter so you must provide your own if you go this route. I don't see why they didn't just skip the proprietary charger and simply provided a USB-C cable a adapter it would be a much more elegant solution and probably cost less.
