I’ve been an A/V receiver and wired speaker person throughout my life. This is my first Sony receiver, and so far, I’m not disappointed. Setting it up was fairly simple. My current TV is a Sony XB-55X90J that supports HDMI 2.1 and 4k@120Hz. In addition, my TV supports EARC, which allows me to control some of the AN1000 settings through the TV menus. I am currently using 7 Sony Core series speakers in a 5.0.2 channel setup. My front speakers are the Sony SSCS3 Floor standing speakers, with the matching SSCSE Atmos enabled speakers sitting on top. My center channel is the Sony SSCS8 and my rear speakers are the Sony SSCS5. I have an open living room area in an apartment that doesn’t follow a traditional box design. While I also own the Sony SA-CS9 subwoofer, I did not use it for testing. I’ve watched a number of movies supporting a wide variety of audio formats of which I have yet to see the AN1000 fail to play properly. The sound quality is incredibly clean and precise with no real EQ tweaking needed to get crisp clean sound out of the speakers. I’ve listened to a number of musical formats with various streaming services and found the Sony to be lacking nowhere in terms of sound reproduction with everything sounding precise as the original recording, The AN1000 supports a feature that I personally haven’t come across before on an A/V receiver. It has the ability to pair Bluetooth (headphones, earbuds, etc.) to it and when enabled and connected, you can have your own private listening mode, with the volume turned up even more if you want. When Bluetooth is configured in this mode, it disables the speakers automatically. The 360 Spatial sound mapping was fairly easy to configure with the included microphone and stand. The calibration process was straightforward and mainly requires you to pick your speaker configuration before it runs. I feel that there was a noticeable difference after running this calibration for 360 spatial sound and enabling it. It adds a new depth to not just music, but to movies as well. Overall, there is nothing to complain about with the Sony STR-AN1000 as it’s a extremely capable current and next gen AV receiver, supporting practically all major formats and even 8k@60Hz video. I was looking to upgrade from my older receiver and this was just right for me. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how it sounds and performs.

I absolutely love the Sony STR-AN1000. I was using a 5.1 setup in my living room and this unit has allowed me to expand to 7.1 (going to add the second subwoofer soon) by adding surround back speakers. Just the addition of these two back speakers has definitely added an additional dimension! Out of the box, and the unit is sleek with 2 knobs, several buttons, a headphone jack, calibration mic jack, and a usb port. Included is a remote with batteries, the calibration microphone, and the FM antenna wire. You provide any necessary speaker wires, hdmi cables, digital audio cable (if necessary), mono cable, and LAN if not using wifi. I use wireless speakers for my surround and wired speakers for my front and center channels. I basically followed the diagram in the manual for a general 7.1 setup. When everything was ready, I did what the directions said and tried to move any obstacles in the line of sight between any speakers and the microphone. I went through the auto-calibration steps and was ready to go! It really is a painless process! I am basically using this unit as a hub for all sound in my living space. Our TV, gaming console, cable box, dvd player, and cd player are all routed through it. I am very happy that it has an FM tuner as I love to listen to radio at home sometimes. For the first test, I put in Star Wars Revenge of the Sith. The fight scene at the beginning is full of sound layered thoroughout in the background. At first, it did not sound spectacular until I pushed the movie button on the remote control and WOW, I was blown away. It was like watching the movie for the first time! The sound was incredible. I could feel the battle all around me. I was definitely impressed. For music, I like to use the 3D spatial mapping! It immerses you in the music and you feel it all around you. For gaming, my son loves to use the surround sound when playing with his PSVR he says it makes the games so much more enjoyable when the sound is so immersive. I highly recommend this unit to anyone. It is affordable and the amount of technology built within is impressive. Bravo to Sony!

After lots of research I landed on this Sony to replace our 10 year old Yamaha mid-range receiver. It’s a night and day difference. Sound quality is so much better when watching movies. I thought I would need to upgrade my 10 year old speakers too but they came alive with this new Sony receiver. Voice is so much clearer too. The on screen menu is also very nice and modern looking. The automatic calibration was easy. The controller is small but functional enough for me. My old Yamaha controller had way too many buttons on it that I never used so I prefer the simpler controller. Highly recommend the Sony STR-AN1000.

Own the Sony STR-DN1080 and have for a few years. It powers my bedroom HT system and so far has been a far superior unit for me than the Pioneer VSXLX101 and the Marantz SR7015 (at a considerably higher price). Center channel clarity and Atmos surround effects are really clear and pleasantly directional with the Sony. The Pioneer was acceptable but not as forward, and for some reason the Marantz was horrific (and I have a Marantz AV7706 in my main HT and it is magnificent. Researched this unit and seemed to come up a bit short compared to the 1080 everywhere I read. Will be keeping the 1080 for a while more. It has proven to be one of those gems in the rough that may not grace our paths for some time to come.

this item is very glitchy and often does not do what it should do. It often loses connection to the audio system and sometimes dos not turn off needing to unplug the unit to power down and reset. very annoying. It is paired with a Sony 65" OLED TV you would think the system would be carefree but it is way too complicated and the remote control buttons are too small to use easily

Sony finaly did it, and they did it well. The 360 mapping is a thing of wonder! I can finally hear dialogue.
