It tricks me into thinking I have more speakers than I do (currently 5.1) it throws audio in a way I hadn't known possible with the cheap Onkyo. Goes well with my PS5 for surround sound while gaming.

IMO, it interfaces perfectly with my Sony TV and PS5 — and my Apple TV to boot. Great interface and even provides an input for a vinyl player. Top notch mid-tier receiver.

Initial setup was more confusing than it needs to be, and the interface on the device itself is limited. It does have a better visual interface when you connect it though a TV, but it's still clunky.

Great though just a small quirk

The only thing that i find particularly annoying is that when using my tv remote to turn on the system it always brings up the receiver menu which has to be closed by the device record directly.

We also appreciate you bringing up the specific issue with the receiver menu automatically appearing when you use your TV remote to turn on the system. We understand how this can be a frustrating and annoying interruption to your experience. This behavior is often related to the "Control for HDMI" or "BRAVIA Sync" function, which is designed to allow your TV remote to control other connected devices. While this feature is very convenient for many users, we understand that it can also have unintended side effects.
We recommend checking the settings on your STR-AN1000 to adjust the "Control for HDMI" or "HDMI Settings" to prevent this from happening. You may find an option to disable this specific function, or to change how the system responds to the TV's power-on command. Works great and is well worth the upgrade if you’re on the fence like I was. The upgrade interface is great as well.
