My husband wanted to be able to control the music from outside in the yard. The bluetooth capability allows him to pair his iPhone and then control the music outside without having to go into the house. Great little receiver.

No high power blaster, but when living in apartments can not do this. Paired up with a sent of Sony 6 ohm speakers this unit is a clean and just enough bass to be a comfort to listen to. I highly recommend SONY speakers for this unit because they seem to match better than other book shelf speakers I have tried.

Good amp/receiver for the money

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm very pleased with this amplifier/ receiver, it has great clarity, and input flexibility: 4 inputs, a phono input, and bluetooth connectivity. It has a remote too which is awesome. I'm listening to it through a nice pair of Bose speakers, so that helps. I wish it had the option to adjust the bass, treble, balance etc. at the unit itself, those features are only accessible with the remote. A very good sounding amp for its price, I recommend.

Beware of the lame FM antenna connection

I still need an outdoor antenna due to where I live and adapting that horrible set-up to work was a royal pain in the butt. Sony should be ashamed of themselves for cutting that corner. Otherwise it was everything I had expected. Hard to find a receiver with phono pre-amp input.

Posted .Hi wscott, Thank you for sharing your experience with your new Sony STRDH190. We appreciate your feedback about the FM antenna. You can't connect an external FM antenna to your A/V receiver, but you can improve the FM reception.
Adjust the position of the supplied FM wire antenna (aerial) to a place where the reception condition is good.
Place the antenna near a window.
Position the antenna as horizontally as possible.

A/B or both switchable speaker output can send music to my outdoor speakers or just my indoor speakers or both. Bluetooth connection from my Samsung Galaxy s7edge is perfect. FM radio only no AM or satellite. Plenty of inputs for a basic stereo reciever at this price point, including a phonograph input should you have a turntable.

When shopping in store, the lack of an optical in was not a concern. After hooking everything up, we decided we also wanted our TV sound to run through our stereo system which was my primary reason for returning. If you want both Bluetooth and a phono hookup on a tight budget, this may be your unit. Lacking other features which can be found for ~$50 more, I personally don't find this to be as much of a value.

Great performance at modest price

I wanted a simple two channel pre-amp/amp with FM tuner to drive bookshelf speakers and also accept phono input, CD, and DVD sound. This does all that with acceptable performance at incredibly reasonable cost. The phono input is high-output moving coil and it works fine.

FM stereo receiver

One oddity in the first month- it 'forgot' the bluetooth pairings for both my phone and my wife's phone and got stuck on "pairing.... connecting". The receiver needed to be reset and reprogrammed (hold power for a few moments, fairly easy). I chose the least expensive model that would fit my needs because the last 2 SONY receivers I bought died a premature death (5.1 and 7.1 systems each $500+ when new). This one already showing an issue does not bode well for SONY in my opinion.
