If you are referring to the display panel, you can adjust the brightness by using the "DIMMER" button on the receiver. You may refer to page 8 of this link for more information:

Not Good For A Garage

It's almost useless there because it keeps shutting itself off because it has a built in feature that shuts it off if it gets too hot. It works fine in cool or cold weather but in the summer when I spend the most time there it's constantly shutting off.

Thank you for the review and we're sorry to hear what happen with your AV receiver. Although the receiver heats up during operation, this is not a malfunction. If you continuously use this receiver at a large volume, the cabinet temperature of the top, side and bottom rises considerably. Follow these steps to resolve your issue.
1. Place the receiver in a location with adequate ventilation to prevent heat buildup and prolong the life of the receiver.
2. Do not place the receiver near heatsources, or in a place subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust, or mechanical shock.
3. Do not place anything on top of the cabinet that might block the ventilation holes and cause malfunctions.

Good receiver for FM music
