I have been unable to install the unit yet. The story is as follows. The electrical power in my house is messed up, with lights flickering, dimming, surging power to fans, etc. Due to this problem, I lost an excellent Onkyo receiver, even behind a surge strip (which also burned up), hence this purchase. However, the electrician I first hired is stumped, and I am still trying to get another one out here. I won't hook up the new unit until I get an all-clear on clean power. My quantitative evaluations should be read with this info in mind.

Very switchable output for every input, including a discrete phono; and plenty of power for my 4ohm speakers. Much easier to hook up and use than the 1080 it replaced since I don't really need the video functions in this location.

Great performance and value

She is not an audiophile, however she does like streamed music from a two channel stereo. I typically will choose Sony before other brands, quality is usually pretty decent. I did set this receiver up for my daughter, it is a solid feeling unit and quite heavy for 100 watts, which tells me the power supply is fairly decent. Set up was quick, sound was pretty good for the price. Not made in ROC.

Also can stream music through Bluetooth. My only complaint is the fm reception is not nearly as good as my 30 year old Teac receiver had been and the Sony lacks an am tuner.

I bought it only to drive a turntable and a pair of Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers. A very good speaker/receiver combo that doesn't break the bank. Not trying to be an audiophile hipster. Just wanted a high quality sound for the money. Sony nailed it. Only complaint I would have is what others have said. The volume knob is not good. Unlike every other Sony receiver I have owned, this knob is all resistance. No feeling of smoothness in rotation. But it has a remote, so I don't have to be reminded of it too much. Minor complaint for an overall great setup. Works well with the Audio Technica AT-LP3.

It is clean, and the sound quality is exceptional for an entry-level system. I bought new wire, and speakers. This makes all the difference. I use a Sony CD/DVD player. I am going to buy another set of new speakers for the other room: all new- fresh start. My turntable is Ok, but I will probably buy a new one. The remote is a lot of fun.

This Sony fit the bill. Has many modes of operation for different types of inputs, including direct RCA cable plug in, tuner, phono, external device by wire, bluetooth. Sound is good. Very easy to install and use.

The audio quality is good, and plenty of power to drive bookshelf or even larger floor speakers. Easy to set up, program stations, connect devices thru the blue tooth. There are a few misses however. There is no dedicated subwoofer output ; the function buttons on the face are tiny and not illuminated; the FM antenna has a small 2 pin connector - and no way to connect a better antenna. But still, for the price, an excellent choice for a "blue tooth system", playing your vinyl, or a basic straight forward 2 channel sound system.

Exactly what I was looking for
