The sound quality is very good for a receiver at this price point. It's purely analog; no digital inputs or outputs on this thing, but that's what DACs are for. Nice phono stage and an FM tuner. Probably the reason for the less than perfect rating is the lack being able to precisely manually tune to your stations. Instead I have to rely on auto scanning to lock on. It doesn't always do that.

Overall, this is a good receiver to "get the job done". I have had a few difficulties with it, however, that have irritated me. One is that when I am connected to some bluetooth devices, there is a loud static noise when playing songs or videos. I love the bluetooth feature, so I have been using it, only to have my ears hurt from this sound at the beginning of songs. All that beings, said, this receiver does seem to produce a clear reproduction and has an easy to use remote. My Klipsch reference speakers sound great through it when I have the bass turned up a bit on the receiver. As others have mentioned, the EQ options are just bass and treble, and the bass tuning is frustrating as it seems low and when I cut bass up it starts to get muddy (tuning too much into the mids/bass).

      Hi chadthepianist,
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. While we're glad you like the receiver, we're sorry to hear the issues that you are having when using Bluetooth connection. You may try some of the steps below to isolate the issue.

      Severe humming or noise.
      • If there are obstructions between the receiver and your BLUETOOTH device, remove them or move the receiver and/or device avoid them.
      • If there is a device that generates electromagnetic radiation, such as a wireless LAN, other BLUETOOTH device, or a microwave oven nearby, move it away.
      • Turn down the volume of the connected BLUETOOTH device

You can adjust the tonal balance of the speakers. Please refer to the receiver manual on page 21.

A solid and good-sounding stereo receiver. I really like that it automatically recognizes my phone over Bluetooth. It also has plenty of inputs for sources like my HD radio. My Vandersteen speakers sound great with it!

Got this to replace the 1980’s Sony version of this receiver. It works well with our classic turntable and has lots of inputs for other components. The sound is great and Bluetooth is the best. You can stream your favorite radio stations or Pandora. Overall great value.

I originally bought this receiver to replace the 30-year-old 5.1 Channel Sony Prologic Receiver in my living room, but decided to locate this one to replace the 50-year-old Pioneer SX780 on my back porch. It works fine in either room, with superb sound quality, even when engaging both A and B speakers simultaneously. As the porch houses my treadmill, this 2.0 Channel elevates the sound well-over the noise of the treadmill, so that I can actually enjoy whatever I am watching on TV. This is a great primary receiver for those who don't already have a set up for 5 channels and with all those RCA inputs, will accommodate "old school" components. It serves well as a secondary receiver to the Sony 5.2 Channel that I bought a week later.
