We do have a surround system set up in the media room with a Sony 5.1 which is a completely different beast... if you're wanting theatre-style surround sound with your entertainment system then you will need to spend a bit more cash.. but for the money, the 2.0 is a great find in the right setup.

The power and sound is sufficient. I do have a complaint about it though. When the bluetooth is connected to your phone, it will let you turn the volume down, but you it won't let you turn it all the way up via phone. You can only turn it up about halfway. It's almost a deal breaker but for the price and no other similar options available this one works fine.

Highly Recommended Stereo Receiver

We decided to buy the same one for the basement. I've started collecting CDs since you can now find them for next to nothing at thrift stores. I found a 6-CD player and some great speakers secondhand, and this receiver was very easy to connect to the older equipment.

Works great for our needs

Now have 4 yamaha 150w passive speakers setup outside, with the reciever inside. The reciever has the ability to play to either pair of speakers or to all 4 at once. We don't even have to raise it more than half volume for it to be more than loud enough for the entire backyard. Bluetooth connection does not reach that far, however we use an alexa connected via aux as the main input.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a basic receiver/tuner to replace a 30-year-old Teac that was getting very tired. This was one of two simple recievers in stock; all the rest were multi-channel home theater units. I chose this one because of the brand name and positive reviews. It was simple to set up and use and I’m amazed how much better music sounds over my Bose speaker system, particularly the separation and the bass. The BlueTooth works great with Pandora off my iPhone. My only disappointment is that there are no A/C outlets at the back of the receiver (the Teac had two, one direct and one switched). Therefore all auxiliary inputs are going to have to be run to an outlet.

I am only driving ceiling speakers in a house with it, so I can't comment on many of the details of operation other than to say the Blue Tooth implementation as an input is easy to use and works well. Does not drop connection. In fact, I think in the several weeks I've had it, I have only had one momentary blip on bluetooth audio the entire time.

Subwoofer Capable but No Volume Control

I don't know why the Sony experts and other customers keep saying that you cannot connect a subwoofer to the STR-DH190 which is not true. In the "Input 4" is a "Line Out" which serves as that function. The only problem is that you can't control the volume. I have a Mac mini 2014 connected to the STR-DH190 which is connected to "Klipsch - Reference Series 5-1/4" 340-Watt Passive 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers" and in the Line Out I'm connected to a "Klipsch K-100SW 10-Inch Powered Subwoofer" and everything works fine. You don't need to buy the STRDH590 for a hundred more. It just depends how serious you are and what's your budget.

Low price, balanced sound

It’s the best low price you can get for this type of stereo receiver. The sound is balanced and not colored. However, tone control is built in the receiver using remote control as “bass, treble”. It’s not a 5 star “to me” because it was not made with banana plugs for speakers and remote control for everything else. The ideal stereo receiver should have more input like Optical, Coaxial, subwoofer but that’s for more expensive system like Denon PMA-600NE $450. Overall, great deal if you buy this with open box item with lower price, balanced sound stereo with Sony Hi-Res label on it.
