Once we decided to finally replace our wonderful but aging 1980 Kenwood receiver, we were faced with a serious dilemma: what to replace it with? There are plenty of expensive high-end stereo receivers out there, but are they *really* worth it? Maybe if cost were no object, I wouldn't care, but most of us have to do other things with our money, like eat or have a roof over their heads.
Most of the searches put this receiver at the top of the list, which annoyed me. Mostly because I had (spoiler: past tense) a long-standing issue with Sony dating back to the 1980s. My spouse convinced me to finally put it to rest and order this receiver. Boy, am I glad that we did.
First off, it sounds just as good as our Kenwood, and takes up about 40% of the space. It has a real phono input, and three aux inputs, one of which is perfect for a tape deck. I would've preferred two tape inputs for dubbing, but en external box works just as well. The look is very clean, and there aren't a lot of unnecessary frills.
I do have one or two nitpicks, though. The biggest is the connection for the FM antenna, which looks more like s fan connector on a motherboard than a real set of screw terminals or a coax connection. I'm STILL trying to figure out how I'm going to patch in a better antenna.
Also, I miss having AM. Yeah, I know, but there are still a few really good AM stations out there, and it'd be nice to have the option to listen to them. HD FM would also be nice, but again I'm nitpicking.
Overall, I've not seen a better value out there. We've had plenty of gear over the years from every manufacturer, and I'd put this Sony receiver up against any of them. Once I got over my snit with Sony, ir became obvious stat hey still care about good stereo music.

Background: Inherited a set of passive speakers for my turntable (Audio-technica LP-120) and needed to invest in a receiver. Was looking for a product that had great reviews and that wasn't a ridiculous price. I think this may be it!
Review: Really happy with this receiver. This product definitely elevates the listening experience if you have a turn table. The speaker combination with this receiver was awesome and it was even better when you hook up a pair of headphones and you can really listen. The set up for this system was straight forward, and the variety of different inputs makes it really convenient. My girlfriend loves to listen to music through her phone and the bluetooth capabilities is perfect for her.
Compared to other receivers, i know you can invest more and get a better listening experience but if you are just a casual listener and need something that does the job and does it right...this will do it for you.

Paired these with a set of Sony core series 5" bookshelf speakers and the sound was fantastic. The receiver itself is sturdy, heavy, easy to set up, bluetooth pairs very well and very little delay in latency. Occasional connection hiccups. The phono amp outputs a very clean and powerful sound when hooked up to a record player. They can get plenty loud too, with not much distortion. Pure direct function sounds cleaner than normal as if by removing muddled bass or low ends. Some songs sound better with pure direct off, so it depends. Overall, great entry level receiver for music enthusiasts.

I bought this receive because it is great value for the features. I was looking for a receiver that had a phono input as I am rebuilding my vinyl collection. The Bluetooth is easy to pair with my phone for steaming and I also hooked up my CD carousel and tape deck. With two speaker inputs I was able to connect my sub woofer and main speakers. The receiver has good power to power my Klipsch tower speakers with clean sound. The remote control is convenient for changing inputs and was easy to to program for my favorite FM channels.

Very nice receiver for the money. Had a friend recommend this and I’m so glad he did. I replaced a Teac receiver from 1998 that was on its last whim. It has 35 watts per channel so having 100 is a big difference. My speakers are happy. I play a lot of vinyl and this makes it more enjoyable and entertaining. Nice to have a remote too bc I didn’t have one for the Teac. Haven’t tried the Bluetooth yet but I’m sure it’s nice. I’m getting much more clarity and power. I didn’t need anything really high end so this is perfect for me. Solid buy!

Receiver is perfect for my needs. I just needed something simple like this. I mainly play records so I wanted an upgrade from my previous receiver bc it was about shot. The volume knob barely worked and I was getting about 35 watts a channel which kinda sucked. This is about triple the wattage per channel so I noticed the difference immediately. Very crisp and clean sounding. Bluetooth is great to use as well. For the price you really can’t get much better. I’m really satisfied with this receiver!

I purchased this unit to replace an old Kenwood receiver. It is a basic stereo receiver, but that is all I wanted. It does not have a variety of input types but the dedicated input for a turntable was a selling point for me. It has plenty of power to drive my JBL speakers, and has good sound quality from low bass to high treble. This was a very inexpensive receiver, so I think this is an exceptional value. It was very easy to set up. I have not used the Bluetooth feature, so can't comment on that.

There are still some of us who listen to music just to listen to music.
I spent several months trying to find a used more robust receiver dedicated to listening to music and not and AV/theater component. I couldn't find what I wanted at the price point I needed so I started looking at something new which let me to this Sony.
It sounds good. Super easy to use. Having BT connectivity is a nice feature which was probably what tipped me to going with something new.
I think for the cost it is an excellent buy.
No frills but I don't want to pay for frills. I want to pay for sound.

Best receiver for the cost. It doesn't have many bells and whistles, but delivers on what it is designed to do. 2 channel music with some power. I use the bluetooth option quite a bit to play music from my phone. All is good, easy to set up. Definitely recommend. It outperforms it's cost.

The Sony STRDH190 receiver is just what I had been looking for — a stripped-down amp for just phono and CD that was very affordable. Why bother with all those other high-tech options if all you want is something to play your albums or CDs through? Not crazy about being unable to adjust some of the settings without the hand remote, but otherwise I love its simplicity and it puts out great sound. I highly recommend it, especially for anyone thinking of getting back into vinyl records, or even CDs. It was a glorious moment when I saw this amp on sale at my local Best Buy for roughly $150. I bought it right away.

Seamless Bluetooth connectivity. This receiver is absolutely perfect for my needs. Simple set up and easy to operate, and the price point is great. My 25 year old Bose satellite speakers sound great with this as do my outdoor Bose speakers. I’m not an audiophile, but I do enjoy my music and appreciate good sound. This receiver does not disappoint. Only wish I had ordered it sooner.

I own a couple of older turntables and it has been hard to find a receiver that have a phono input that you can plug them into, this one does. They are well built and with great sound. It also comes with a Bluetooth feature that allows you to use your other Blue tooth devices with no problems.
The price for this unit is also affordable. A great buy!

Simple 2 channel HiFi that has network capability seem to be disappearing slowly. The rise of big screen tv, flat panels and surround sound, multi-channel audio have relegated the simpler act of listening to music to a back seat. This Sony unit is an exception and a great implementation for music lovers. Song has a sound signature and EQ that I find more pleasing, realistic and sonically accurate than Sonos, Bose, Marantz, Denon or Apple. Yamaha is reasonably close to Sony in this regard but this 2 channel unit recently replaced a similar Yamaha equipped Musicast device and I am very pleased.
Great volume, pleasing sound and ease of use is best in class in my opinion. Can’t beat the price. Very pleased with the performance of this unit.

I'd buy it again - mostly because there doesn't seem to be anything else on the market that integrates the features I wanted. My old stereo head that had grounds for a record player went kaput, and I wanted something that had the clarity and power that modern wiring brings. But was sure I was going to miss the capability that the old heads all seemed to be built with, that got discarded sometime in the 80's or 90's, of being able to switch between two sets of speakers in two different locations. I was astonished that this product has that. What sealed the deal for me was that it also has bluetooth - now I can have one stereo system to listen to records, stream music from my phone, and connect to my movie set-up, and it powers speakers in both my living room and patio. It's exactly what I would have asked for.
The only cons - it's quite big, and needs to not have anything on top of it for the cooling system to work. Also, the bluetooth connection is a little spotty - about 50% of the time it will be totally fine, but it's just as likely to have some sort of interference happening where either your wifi signal will freeze until the bluetooth is disconnected, or the sound will be slowed and pitched down and/or include bits of static. This could conceivably be the fault of the gadgets I connect to it, but it happens with both of them, and neither have had this problem anywhere else.
The sound is good. It seems to be very clear, even, and responsive from the very low to the very high range of the spectrum, with very little noise, and all the power I need. Even when I'm running the record player, there is no noticeable electric hum.
