Sony-725W 5.2-Ch Hi-Res $K Ulta HD Receiver

After it arrived I hooked it up and tested it. I was disappointed at the volume level. My older receiver rated at 120w per channel had much more volume out put than this Sony receiver rated at 145w. The Sony receiver also does not have tone controls. The bass cannot be increased. It hardly pushed bass response thru my 15" woofers. I really did like the HDMI features and the blue tooth, but that did not compensate for the inadequacies of low power and lack of tone controls. I returned this receiver.

I love the on screen menu and the ultra 4k output works great... The only down side is that it has no a/v input for my old equipment but has plenty of HDMI inputs

Great Until It Dies After 14 Months

Owned for 1 year when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This unit worked great for 14 months until one day it just powered off and went into protect mode every time I tried to restart it. I went through all the troubleshooting steps in the manual before calling Sony support, as it has a two-year warranty. They sent a prepaid box, and I sent it for repair. Upon their review, I was told that the unit has corrosion damage, which voids the manufacturer’s warranty, and that the damage was extensive enough that the unit could not be reliably repaired. The receiver was in a location with central air, plenty of air circulation, and no potential for liquid spills, yet the repair facility cannot explain how the corrosion could have happened. So now I'm out a $350+ receiver after just over a year, which is ridiculous. I suspect that these units must be stored in warehouses that are not temperature and humidity controlled and sent to stores with corrosion already started. I'm not sure how else multiple failures of the same models for corrosion within the two-year warranty can be explained (other examples of "corrosion" to the same model were found online). I've always been a loyal Sony fan due to their previous quality and reputation, but it's time to start looking at other manufacturers with equipment worth the investment. I am thoroughly disappointed in the quality of this receiver and the "support" received.

Works as expected

The Logitech Harmony universal remote I purchased from Best Buy was setup by the Geek squad as well. It works through walls and cuts everything one at one time, comcast receiver, sony receiver and TV.

I have no issues, I do wish I spent the extra few bucks and got the atmos enabled to future proof myself, but it does it’s job well with my polk signature series 5.1 setup.
