Nice 4K HDR DV Compatible Receiver!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the stereo version of this receiver and upgraded to the video version. It works great and has plenty of inputs! The only issue would be if you wanted greater that 60hz for next gen consoles because it does not offer that at 4K. It was easy to setup and Sony has always been a quality brand to me so you can expect that with this! It is a heavy until but most receivers are! The remote is nice and works great. The Bluetooth audio from your phone or audio device is great and stays connected without drop outs. The knobs also feel real nice and premium and there are an extensive amount of outputs for your speaker needs!!!

Lots of features in a small package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off this receiver has all the features you would want in not just a basic receiver but even a more advanced one. If you are looking for a 5.2 channel received that has good power for a single room, not multi zone, then this deserves a look. It has HDMI w/ARC and pre-labeled HDMI inputs for media box, BD/DVD, Sat and Game console. You can also connect your music via the USB port. One of the big features for me was the Bluetooth connectivity which was very simple to connect to and worked like a charm. A surprise bonus feature was that you have on-screen display so you can see radio stations or other info when using Bluetooth. Two sub outputs means you'll never be wanting for bass. There are also two optical inputs just in case you need them. Overall, this is a very good receiver at the higher end of the entry level.

Great sound, terrible interface.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As many people here have stated, this is a decent receiver for the money. Sound quality is fine, plug and play. Only it’s not that simple. Many settings are not turned on or active by default for some unknown reason. The g.u.i ONLY works for a few basic sound modifications, and the rest of the menus are utterly buried in difficult to reach sub menus that can only be accessed via the terrible little screen on the front of the unit. For instance, I found that full HDR was not getting passed through the hdmi ports. Couldn’t figure out why until I did some digging and found the hdmi ports need to be set to “enhanced” instead of “standard” for some unknown reason. Why it would be set like this and why the g.u.i simply doesn’t display ALL the menus on the tv is a glaring omission and really, really frustrating. Having said that, once I dug around the awful, terrible menus I was able to get everything to work. And it sounds fine for an entry level receiver.

Great Upgrade from my old Sony
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought my last Sony receiver 15 years ago and it still worked great. I needed an upgrade to pair with my new Sony Bluray player. I didn't need all the bells and whistles that come with more expensive receivers and this model was on sale at a great price. Set up was very easy and this receiver really makes my entire system sound great. I will be ready to upgrade to a 4K tv. I love this receiver and would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade at an affordable price.

Excellent Receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love this new Sony receiver. I replaced an old Phillips receiver that was 28 years old. Setup was so simple and straight forward. I was able to setup my CD player, Blu Ray Player and TV and still can setup my game system and have the option of adding additional speakers. I setup with 2 Polk T50 Series front speakers and set it to the surround sound setting. Sound is great and I am extremely happy with this purchase!! Also, I could not beat the price!!

Receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver was what I needed to replace my original Sony receiver that went bad after about 16 years. This actually was easy to hookup and has compatibility with my Sony XBR65 tv bought in 2019. We love the bluetooth and the 4K compatibility. The 5.2 surround system sounds great for us.

Great Upgrade If You Have an Older Receiver
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have no complaints at all about this receiver. Setup was a breeze, I was up and running very quickly. I like all of the HDMI inputs that were available along with the traditional inputs. The sound quality was pretty good without any calibration. And what I loved the most was the ability to pair bluetooth devices. With all of the various features available, this receiver will be useful for a long time.

Nice Sound
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the sound I get from the receiver. My one complaint is that on at least 3 occasions I lost the voice audio sound while watching a TV show. The background music was still playing. It was set to the Dolby Surround and it happened on both Netflix and Paramount Plus streaming. Not sure if its an encoding glitch with the streamer or a problem with the receiver.

Great Value Receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony 725 5.2 Receiver STRDH590 has good sound. Great list of radio stations displayed on tv. You scroll through the pre-set radio stations and select the station you want. I love that. Very easy to select and program the station pre-sets. Blu-tooth works perfectly. Good remote, and all buttons feel good. All dials and buttons on receiver have a quality feel too. You can select from a bunch of different sound fields, and there’s a graphic explanation of each selection on the tv screen. ARC between the tv and receiver works perfectly. Receiver runs cooler than most receivers, which most usually emit a fair amount of heat. Low height of the receiver, which is a great feature for inside cabinets and consoles. The Amp Menu does not show up on the tv; only on the LCD screen of the receiver. This takes some getting used to, but after some practice I was able to scroll through the feature menu to get what I want, such as the HDMI ARC settings. No Aux input. No USB input. No AM radio (who cares about AM radio anyway?). Ridiculous proprietary FM antenna connection. You must use the supplied antenna, and if you lose it or break it, you cannot use a coax connection hooked up to a wire (like many receivers can). All said, this Sony is a great receiver, and I’m very happy with my purchase.

Beware if you want to use HDMI ARC and one remote!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hooked up and everything was great. SO EASY to set up. Plugged everything in, 15 minutes had wonderful sound going and was happy. Then the biggest problem. With the new 4K box from Infinity, you can't split audio out, so you have to use the HDMI, not a huge deal, right? Well, when you pass the HDMI through the receiver, every time you turn the TV on an on-screen menu comes on that you either have to wait out or use the Sony remote to cancel. EVERYTHING else works on one remote, so this is extremely frustrating. Upon further research, this is by design with Sony and there is no fix, so it is going back. As far as technology has come, the Xfinity system is so simple there is no reason at all I should have to use a second remote to close a menu. The only other solution is a Harmony remote or similar, but that is far more complicated than the Xfinity solution. So back it goes. Yamaha it is. Sad, it had such promise for my living room setup and I really wanted Sony, but that is crazy,

great Receiver!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always used sony receivers in the past. For the last 10 years, I had used another sony model which (gasp!) didn't have HDMI. So I basically just used the optical connection on that unit to output to my speakers. The number of connections that this model has are insane! Word of advice though, if your subwoofer has the old speaker wire to clip setup - it will not work! However, you can purchase a speaker wire to RCA adapter and you will be ready to roll! I was pleased to find that it had coaxial and optical inputs. The different sounds settings are great. And, having an old SACD player - I was pleased to find that it had an input for this! The sound on this unit is a night and day improvement over my old sony. Not only does it upgrade the sound output - but it also has 4k video capabilities. What I think I like the most - is that instead of having a gazillion wires running from my components to my TV - they all run to the back of the receiver and then a single output/HDMI runs to my tv! It doesn't get any better than that! If you are in the market for a new receiver - give this one a shot, you won't be sorry!

Just a quick Bluetooth note
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver sounds great, yet, wanted to add a quick note. First I had a Sony Bravia system that was fantastic and lasted for over fifteen years. I bought this receiver and thought that I'd be able to reuse my existing speakers. I want to add just two comments to set expectations. First, the Bravia came with a simply direct connect unpowered sub woofer. This Receiver wasn't compatible with the old subwoofer. It has to have a separately powered subwoofer... it cost nearly as much as the receiver. Second, I like to listen to action movies semi loud and was hoping that the Bluetooth connectivity would allow me to pair with my wireless headphones. The short story is that the STR- DH590 receiver doesn't support wireless transmitting to external headsets, devices, etc... Disappointed but it still has great sound (especially with the new subwoofer!)

Modern Features, Great Value
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Stand out features of this receiver are 4K HDR passthrough (supports Dolby Vision and HDCP 2.2), bluetooth connection, and an FM tuner. Another great feature is DCAC, which calibrates the audio for your room. Setup was simple, and this is really a great value.

CAPABLE RECEIVER UNIT FOR HDMI DEVICES
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does what I need it to do; connecting all my HDMI devices/equipment to Digital audio. Great volume going through my legacy BOSE 5.1 speaker system, Bluetooth connects pretty fast, and the receiver integrates well with my SONY TV remote (maybe because it's Sony to Sony, but not sure if it'll do the same thing with other TV brands.) If it had two speaker channels (to run my outdoor speakers), brighter display, lighted buttons on the panel, and an updated screen menu appearance (display on the TV/monitor) I would have rated it 5 Stars.

Great basic AV receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver is exactly what I needed for the television and speakers in my family room. About 18 months ago, I purchased its little brother (also from Best Buy), the STRDH-290 for my office for stereo (audio only) use. That unit has worked flawlessly ever since and was a big reason I decided on the STRDH-590 for my AV use. So far, it has worked great
