This receiver is exactly what I needed for the television and speakers in my family room. About 18 months ago, I purchased its little brother (also from Best Buy), the STRDH-290 for my office for stereo (audio only) use. That unit has worked flawlessly ever since and was a big reason I decided on the STRDH-590 for my AV use. So far, it has worked great

I was in between this one and the Denon (AVR 5.2-Ch. 4K Ultra HD and 3D Pass-Through A/V Home Theater Receiver - Black) and decided to go with this one. It works as expected. Easy to setup and the sound sounds great in my living room.

I bought this for a friend that had problems with a working receiver. It has worked out great for her. Simple to use, makes her speakers sound wonderful.

A great value in stereo receivers. I had the 1st generation of this with 4K passthrough that worked flawless until I jacked up an HDMI port in the back by me simply not paying attention. Thought I'd step up with a Denon with wifi and 8K passthrough, but it just didn't have the sound and power my Sony had, so exchanged it for this. Just as pleased as can be. My only gripe is I wish the display panel in the front was larger and brighter.

Great sounding receiver without breaking the bank. This receiver was easy to hook up to my surround system. Very happy with this purchase.

My how receivers have improved since the early 90's. Sounds great, easy to setup and use. Couldn't ask for any more

I got this to replace a very old Kenwood (pre-HDMI) receiver. The difference between the two was like night and day. The sound quality is much better and the features included are a definite upgrade from the 12-year-old Kenwood it replaced. The on-screen GUI leaves a little to be desired and the setup instructions aren't the greatest. Also, I was disappointed that the hi-level speaker connections didn't use binding/banana posts for all of the connections (only the fronts use binding posts; the center and rears use spring-connectors), a small gripe, but I prefer the banana post connections. Still, the unit was a much needed upgrade and offers many features that I didn't have previously.

I purchased this 5.1 multi-channel receiver to replace my old Sony SDR DH500 that I bought from Best Buy in 2009. This unit is intended to be a comparable replacement, but Sony has chosen to eliminated a few features that may disappoint some users. If your primary purpose is enjoyment of music and radio broadcast this receiver may not be your best choice. To access all the features built into this receiver you will need to connect to your HDTV with a HDMI cable. The AM tuner has been eliminated (not a critical high-fidelity music source). The FM tuner is good quality, but the balanced 75 ohm antenna input has been eliminated and replaced with a cheap wire alternative. That means you cannot connect to a high quality exterior antenna or a power amplified interior antenna (such as TERK) if reception is an issue. Some components are noticeably cheaper quality than I see on my two older Sony audio receivers. One of the speaker wire connectors on this unit broke when I switched out my old Sony receiver. I am thankful for the excellent Best Buy return policy. You will need to be very careful working with these delicate connections. Now that vinyl records are becoming more popular, you may wonder why Sony has eliminated the phono pre-amp that is required if you still want to use your old turntable and moving magnet cartridges with RCA audio cables. However, you can purchase a very good external preamp for less than $100. I was also disappointed to find that there is no control knob to adjust speaker balance or modify bass and treble output (these adjustments require connection to your HDTV). My HDTV has a separate audio system and I will need a 20 foot HDMI cable to fully control this receiver. I don’t know why Sony does not offer an option to control this receiver through a USB cable to a PC or tablet computer for those who don’t intend to use it as the primary audio component of their HDTV. And it’s disappointing to see the quality of Sony components decline year after year with every new model release.

Great 4k UHD capable receiver. Very warm and powerful sounding, plenty loud enough with all the connections you would need. Setup was simple, remote is excellent, and settings easily navigated with on screen display. Excellent value for the price. (Note: Im using quality Polk Audio speakers with my unit, and the sound is fantastic)

Replaced a Denon receiver. The Sony was easy to hook up and functions perfectly. No lag time to sync with cable and tv. Sound quality is excellent for my five channel movie surround setup, with good sellection of listening modes.

Only had it a few weeks, but it has performed very well. I like that the volume level stays where it was left when turned off. Turning on the tv and selecting home on the roku turns on the receiver, which is a nice bonus. Overall I would say it is a good buy.

This is a good stereo receiver, not as powerful as it states. No amp for highs and lows. Also, you have to set the sound just right to get the best sound. But good for the price, woud like better adjustments for treble and bass.

the sound is great for the price. It has an odd menu where you turn it on, select your source (i.e. HDMI> game), then start paying the PS4, then 30 seconds later a 2nd menu ALWAYS appears with an easy setup menu. I already selected my input. anyway while this seems minor, after that happens for the 100th, then 200th etc time its a why....does it do this

This thing can be abused. Currently have 2, my first one is still running strong after being over 3 years old. Great volume and sound quality. Just doesnt support HDR, so if youre playing a console i recommend hooking to tv

My Sony I had for 15 years finally bit it. I got this jewel at Best Buy on cyber Monday for $179. It was very easy to set up and sounds amazing. I have a Sony 5.1 surround sound system and the automatic calibration was easy and sounds unbelievable in my den. If your looking for a great receiver for a low price I highly recommend!!

I love music and this gives me a way to listen to surround sound for whatever I choose. Sony receiver has many ways to listen to what you want. I have a microphone to calibrate the speakers for me and that was a great way to get great sound.
