still haven't installed my new tv yet but did hook up 2 speakers and a sub. sounds great and i love that its bluetooth. it also was a great price

This is a 5 star product but it's only getting 3 stars because of the incredibly bad user manual. I've seen more people complain about how confused they are by the way the sound fields on the product are implemented. Worse yet, the manual only confounds the confusion. The product comes with many "Sound Fields" ranging from Dolby PLII Movie to weird things like HD-D.C.S. You must select a sound field and this gets us to the heart of the confusion. If you're buying this because you want to hear movies in Dolby Digital or one of the many 5 channel encoding methods, you don't want to select Dolby PLII Movie...you don't want to select any of the available sound fields. You want the unit to sense the movie's encoding method and set itself to that. But you must select a sound field which leads to the confusion. Let's say I select Dolby PLII Movie as my sound field. So what happens when you tune to a station broadcasting in Dolby Digital? By default, the display on the unit scrolls and says that it has sensed Dolby Digital and a DD appears on the front panel. So far so good. But 5 seconds later the display changes to Dolby PLII Movie. Is the unit still decoding in Dolby Digital or is it decoding in Dolby PLII Movie...or is it decoding in a combination of the two. Ugh! The manual makes things worse. There is hardly any mention of Dolby Digital in the manual nor is there are explanation of how the unit decides which decoding method to select. After lots of frustration during which I almost decided to return the unit, I finally figured it out. Almost by accident, I pressed the Display button on the remote and discovered what the unit is actually doing. If you press Display several times, the unit first shows which input is selected (SAT/CATV,etc.) Next it displays briefly which decoding method is in use, but then after a few seconds it displays the selected sound field (Dolby PLII Movie, etc). This is the confusing display because it is showing the selected sound field whether it is being used or not. What's really being used in this example is Dolby Digital and we want the front display to show this as long as it is using this decoding method. If we press Display again, we are shown the volume levels, Finally, and this is key, if we press Display again we are shown the decoding method being used. In this case DD will show up. And DD will now stay on the front display which is what we want. Here's a summary of how the unit actually works. Let's say you select Dolby PLII Movie as your sound field. If we tune to a station broadcasting in Dolby Digital, the unit automatically switches itself to Dolby Digital and displays DD on the front panel. Although we were forced to select Dolby PLII Movie, at this point the unit is not using this sound field. In other words, whenever a 5 channel encoding method is detected, the unit will switch to that regardless of the "sound field" you have selected. Now what happens when we switch to a channel which is not broadcasting in Dolby Digital? Well, now the unit will switch to the selected sound field and will, in this case, decode using Dolby PLII Movie. Nowhere in the manual is this explained. I've seen more people posting that they have no clue how the sound fields work or how to properly select them. SONY needs to hire some people who know how to write user manuals.

Excellent receiver for someone looking to get great sound and not spend a lot of money. Easy setup which makes it nice for a novice such as myself.

This receiver is excellent for the price. It is highly functional. You can connect many devices to it which I love! The bluetooth function is awesome. I'm very satisfied.

This receiver isn't the easiest to use and set levels of speaker outputs. Once you figure out how to navigate settings, the sound it delivers is surprising! Excellent highs, lows, and surround. I'm glad I picked this Sony receiver!

Our old receiver finally quit working after almost 15 years of daily service. After checking out many receivers we decided on this one and are very glad we did. Very easy to set up with our tv; works great. Sales person unsure if it came with a remote so bought a universal remote just in case. It does come with a remote although in the specs for this receiver the remote is not listed in the package deal but is shown in the picture. This was rather confusing. Returned extra remote with no problems. Best Buy always seems to have what we need when we need it and it was on sale.

Had 7 speakers, still works fine. Made for 5. Does have the optical input that our old one didn't. Sounds great. Also has options for hdmi input.

Performed as expected from the specifications. Liking the ease of connecting via Bluetooth and the convenience of the remote control. Of interest is the lack of a balance control to adjust the relative volume of the two speakers I use. What is provided is an automatic system that depends on a (provided) microphone that you place at the preferred listening location. Works great, but sometimes I want to listen from a workstation near one of the speakers and alter the balance. I could bring out the microphone and perform a re-balance, but that's inconvenient for the temporary purpose. Fortunately, the range of the remote is adequate to take it across the room with me to the workstation.

works great, love the bluetooth. Not very many menu settings but that's cool, for the price this was a great deal. Sounds great with my speakers.

Exactly what I needed for our home theater. This was an upgrade from my Denon AVR E400. With my new Xbox Series X, I needed HDMI ports that would pass-through 4K and support HDR10. This did it! And for only $330. I thought for sure I would need another $600 unit. Easy setup too. To get HDR10 to work with the xbox, I had to go to AMP menu and enable "enhanced" mode. Then I needed to change video setting in xbox menu to push a higher bit signal. Working PERFECTLY!

So far, so good. The Bluetooth was easy to connect. The overall output and sound have been excellent.
