Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The job of amplifying an audio signal is pretty basic electronics-wise, so receivers differentiate themselves on features. The features I wanted: Low price, 5.2 channels, takes 4k hdmi signal, FM radio, bluetooth This receiver met those requirements. I didn't realize that the power button on the receiver would turn on and off the TV via HDMI, which is nice. Sufficient power output to drive my speakers. A nice selection of HDMI inputs, as well. Don't like: The included FM antenna is not great (it is just a single pole wire), and the interface sony has used is non-standard. If I wanted to use a better antenna, I would have to hack something together. It comes with a microphone for some kind of nonsense adjustment I'll never use. I'm sure there are other nonsense equalizer modes that I'll never use also.

My old Yamaha had a wider, more dynamic range of sound, and it cost much less (but several years ago). this Sony will be OK after I get used to it.

Great for replacing older equipment.

Muddy sound

The sound was way inferior to the Onkyo!! Just bought another Onkyo, (TX-SR 393). The sound is fantastic! Enjoyed listening to music again, The Sony was a terrible choice! AND, I had a real hard time with their so called “ Customer Service “ Both receivers cost about the same,( around $350 and change). Never will purchase a Sony receiver again!! How ever, the Sony tower speakers are pretty darn good!! I just hope I don’t have any issues with the “ board” again!!

It lost the sub woofer output so I replaced it with this one. It responds to whatever type audio the input sees. The only challenge was plugging it into our TV to set up the receiver with the onscreen menu. The TV doesn't have enough HDMI inputs to leave it plugged in. I wish it had all controls on the front like the 7.2 version. Oh well, progress I suppose...

Powers speakers and subwoofer with no issues. Handoff well my Samsung 4K tv. Overall it is a great starter for anyone to wants to get into home theater or get up to date with 4K. Great price and bargain

I haven’t noticed any audio issues or video issues. It does 5.1 surround sound. The surround options and settings are bad and the menu is awful.

After returning an entry level Pioneer Elite, I chose to test this unit. I was very impressed! I understood perfectly why this unit has received so many positive reviews in multiple publications. It does the job simply. And for someone who had to make sure that I needed to be in the right DSP for two channel sources vs multichannel sources in my 13-year old Yamaha RX-V663, this unit’s HDCPS decoder takes care of making the most put of the any source that takes in. I liked it so much that I ended up returning it to then buy the STR-DH790 and its expanded setup options. Hopefully, Best Buy will soon list the DH790 in inventory so I enjoy this simple but magical Sony AV system.
