Works But Moody

I had to disconnect the Sony blu ray player from the system because it failed during the 60 day return period. When I did this, it impacted the function of the Roku and the TV through the AV receiver. I'm hoping replacing the missing blu ray player will fix the issues.

I bought mine as an open-box unit, which meant the calibration mic was missing and I had to figure out the audio settings by trial and error. Sound quality is okay. Settings are somewhat limited in flexibility compared to more expensive units. It's a set it and forget it box.

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I give the Sony STRDH590 receiver 5 stars mainly due to the fact that it packs a punch through my Fluance home theatre 5 speaker set. Frankly, I am not a fan of the whole HDCP 2.2 restriction in order to play 4K movies because it ultimately serves as a pretext for the electronics industry to increase it's profits by selling higher priced home theatre components. Having said that, if you want to watch 4K blu-ray movies, hold out for the more bargain priced home theatre receivers like the STRDH590.

Upgraded Receiver

It was purchased to replace a 1980s Optonica (professional grade) receiver that powered vintage Optonica turntable and cassette tape player, and Sony DVD player, multi-disc CD player, and VCR. Due to these vintage accessories, I am unable to appreciate the Sony Home Theater until these units are upgraded. Regardless, currently it is used simply to power the Sony CD player to outdoor Bose speakers...and it is working great.

I would have given it a 5 but wanted to plug in my Amazon Fire Stick to it and couldn't. The HDMI connectors are too close to each other, so something else would have had to remain unconnected. Should have ordered a different model. Otherwise, I'm very happy with it.

Good receiver, miner issue with Apple TV
