I went through the entire troubleshooting steps for the bass and the speaker was working but there was no signal going to the speaker even on the set-up functions. I don’t know if that meant it was a fault of the receiver with no output or some impedance issue with the speaker. However another brand of receiver did work with that same speaker so I have to assume it was something wrong with the receiver.

In fairness, though I have a Sony TV which made the integration process really simple, it utilizes PCM if your TV supports it so you only need a TV remote and it controls the entire show.

I had some cheap speakers hooked up and would get a noticeable volume drop when there would be sudden increases in sound output (when the beat drops on a song). I switched to some higher end speakers and it mostly seems to have resolved the problem.
