    Great Receiver for a great price

    We purchased this receiver to replace an old one so we could upgrade to an 4K HD. It was not expensive and is simple to use and works great! Highly recommend it.

    Bare wire only? Really? Get serious

    Just learned center channel is bare wire only. That's cheesy. Have pricy interconnects with y-clips that I can't use. Would buy something else if I realized that. Will probably return.

    Bought this receiver to replace my old one that broke down. So far it has worked just as well if not better than my old one, and set up was very fast and easy.

    Underwhelming and weak

    Pros Works seamlessly with my Sony TV. When I power on the TV, the Receiver turns on. Volumes are synced. Price was good. But you get what you pay for. Cons The sound produced is underwhelming. My 2001 DENON receiver finally gave out. This Sony has better specs and is connected to the same Bose Surround Speakers I had before. The sound quality (bass levels, clarity, overall volume) is only 20% as good. The options to customize how the surround sound is set is very limited. I’m left underwhelmed by all the options.

We are sorry if the sound quality of this receiver did not live up to your standards. We are not sure what source are you playing on your STR-DH590, however, you may try following the steps below and see if it resolves the problem:

      Sony® Audio/Video (A/V) receivers provide many different surround sound settings and input sources. Due to the way that the audio is electronically divided within the A/V receiver, it is normal for the overall volume to differ from sound field to sound field. Try the different surround sound modes to see which modes increase the volume to the level you would like.

      NOTE: Dolby® Digital surround sound usually plays back at a lower overall volume level to allow for a wider dynamic audio range.

      Because input sources vary in the quality, type, and strength of the signal being received, it is normal for the overall volume to differ from input source to input source. However, you may wish to check the following:

      Verify the connection between your input source and the A/V receiver to make sure they are securely connected.
      Try a different input jack to eliminate any issues with the current jack that is being used.
      NOTE: If the audio is being sent from a television or set-top box to the A/V receiver, it may be necessary to disable the internal speakers of the input source or set the audio output of the TV to FIXED or VARIABLE. If the audio output of the TV is set to VARIABLE, then you will need to increase the volume level of the TV.

      Switch to a different source, such as a CD player, to verify whether the volume is low on all sources or just the one that you are using.

    Bought this for my husband since he’s a technical guru when it comes to sound systems and wiring. He used this receiver to connect all his devices in his man cave. He had higher expectations but did give it an average rating.

    Sony has improved upon its quality value ratio with this integrated unit, sounding more like a separate pre-amplifier, and a separate amplifier set-up.

    Shuts off randomly

    Entry level surround system

    Bought this to replace an older receiver. Loud enough for most purposes. Just be warned the 4k HDR pass through limits your signal to 24 fps, which stinks for gaming.

    Beautiful sound, but absolutely gutless. Overloads at level 50 out of 73. I would take it out and blast it with a shotgun, but I paid too much money for it. Hoping Best Buy will let me exchange it for something better.

    This receiver has an on screen display that won’t go away on its own every time you turn it on. It won’t turn off with my Xfinity remote and requires me to have 2 remotes. Does everything else well, nothing exciting.

    Product works but continually asks for settings each time. Change between cable and another source you the pop up message has to be answered before sound is played.
