    No one was able to tell me definitively if this had a digital tuner. It does NOT. This means a drive back to Madison to return the thing.

    I Love This Sony STR-DH590

    I purchased this Sony STRDH590 at the Myrtle Beach store when they were out of stock. An employee offered me an open box unit that they did have. I declined at which time he offered to complete an online order for me. I agreed and completed the purchase. Two days later my new receiver was delivered. Unfortunately, the unit was damaged so I put it back in the box and returned it to the Myrtle Beach store. They quickly and pleasantly with a smile swapped me out a new one that had just arrived in that days delivery. I took it home and hooked it up via the HDMI ARC connection, hooked up all 6 speakers and sat back in my lazy chair recliner for a test drive. I chose "HD Digital Cinema Sound" HD DCS surround mode and went to a video 5.1 Dolby Atmos demo video. This Sony does not offer ATMOS Surround Sound but Dolby ATMOS is compatible. A little background on extremely modest speaker selection... First my main stereo left and right channels are fantastic and very affordable Polk RC 55i In-Wall speakers painted to the wall color. Center channel is a Sony 3 way wedge, rear surround are two fair quality box speakers on brackets. This inexpensive setup is offered a little punch with a JBL 10" 200 watt subwoofer. Cut to the chase! For the investment I never expected this entry level Sony to come out with shining stars. (keep in mind i was replacing 4 vintage Crown PL-3 Amps and 2 Crown SL-2 Preamps with 6 floor standing speakers) This little guy is all I will ever need. Sound quality is fantastic and the output power is more than accommodating in my smaller 270 sq ft theater room. I highly recommend this receiver to anyone excluding of course the extremely critical audiophile. PS: The only thing that I could not figure out in the settings was how to not turn on and off the receiver when I turned on and off the TV via remote without disabling the HDMI ARC receiver function completely which is not even a viable choice. I love the HDMI ARC connection and every audio source hooked to the other HDMI jacks on my TV comes through the receiver & surround. When I figure this out I'll let those who care know. My dad would call this review Deira of the Mouth. Enjoy

    It is connected to out smart TV and other components and the volume is constantly cutting out. It is like an old record skipping.

    It’s awful. Basically just a coin flip for if it wants to run HDR for video games this thing is a waste of money.

If switching devices didn't resolve the issue, please perfomr a factory reset to the unit. To factory reset the unit, Press (power) to turn off the receiver.     Makes it easy to do it right!

    My Pioneer receiver I got around 1998 finally died (well the optical audio input stopped working, otherwise, she is still chugging along). I have always had a hodge podge system, mainly two custom DSG speakers made in Ann Arbor with built in woofer/mid/tweeter. These things worked and sounded great and I never 'needed' more. I have tried other modern receivers but not wanting to wire in all the additional speakers when I am just looking for amplification and clarity I always shrugged it off. I took this opportunity to get exactly what I wanted and give true 5.2 a try and I wish I would have done it a decade earlier. I never installed a solid center speaker nor did I ever have a full 5.1 or 5.2 system hooked up. Finally I took the time to hook up a full set of speakers I have aquired over the years, polk bookshelf, in back, polk towers in front, polk powered sub as well as a polk center. All polk but all bought at different times (each set has a different logo style). I took the time and got new speaker cable and wired everything in as well as I can. Clean lines, routed the cables where they were functional but looked good, etc. I got the receiver (slightly smaller than my old Pioneer!!! which is a big plus) hooked up. I don't plan on running HDMI pass through but I did plug the HDMI out to the TV for the initial set-up. I put the calibration microphone in the best seat in the house and went through the initial configuration. 5 remote clicks (that were just clicking yes/ready/ok) and some funky sounds later and the system was done. I re-watched a movie I had just watched the other night on it and what an experience. My basement now sounds like a movie theatre. Afterwards I put on Fear Inoculum from Tool and let that play through and had an out of body experience. This system does EXACTLY what it is supposed to. Supports 5.2 just fine, is super easy to set-up, and sounds great. I am super happy I didn't go with more or less. Would buy again in a heartbeat.
