      Thank you for the review and we do apologize for the inconvenience. We highly recommend connecting the AV receiver to your TV via HDMI connection (ARC) so you see the actual home screen of the unit.

    Don’t waste your money

    Had this for about 2.5 years and it has now started restarting itself when try to turn it on and it’s now doing this when you try to turn it off. I am constantly having to unplug the entire thing multiple times a day. It over heats from time to time too. My Yamaha lasted longer than this waste of money. I will never buy another Sony receiver. I’m don’t know how this thing gets such good reviews. Don’t waste your money.

      We are sorry to hear about the issue you are having. This is usually not the case for our Sony AV receiver nor the experience we want you to have. Please try some solutions below that may help fix the problem.

      - Check HDMI connections. Ensure all HDMI cables are securely connected.
      - Disconnect all HDMI devices from your TV and the audio system.
      - Perform a power reset or restart of the TV and audio system.
      - HDMI-CEC allows connected devices to control each other. Try disabling CEC or Control for HDMI function on your receiver and any connected devices to see if it resolves the issue.
      - If you encounter the issue with the receiver reboots by itself, please isolate it by following this link: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/audio-components-receivers-amplifiers/str-dh590/articles/00032091

      If you are unable to resolve your concern, factory reset the AV receiver. You can clear all memorized settings and restore the receiver to the factory default settings by the following procedure. Be sure to use the buttons on the receiver to perform this operation. Press (power) to turn off the receiver. Press and hold (power) for 5 seconds “CLEARING” appears on the display panel during initialization. When initialization is complete, “CLEARED ” appears on the display panel.

      Also, make sure that all of your devices has the latest software update as it includes key features, applications, bug fixes, and feature improvements.

    Lip synch delay for surround sound

    Totally frustrated! Spent hours trying to get this to work, but there is a lip synch delay between the video on my 4k TV and the audio coming from the HDMI ARC to the receiver and out to the speakers. There is an a/v synch option in the receiver settings which allows me to give an even greater delay to the audio, but none that allows me to reduce the delay time (with it set to off there is still a delay). Totally unacceptable to me! If you don't mind watching video with the audio coming slightly after, then no problem. For me, it's going back. Can't believe all the time I wasted. At least I can return it.

    "Excellent" open box isn't excellent

    I purchased an open box rated "Excellent" aka "including all original parts and packaging." The microphone and antenna were both missing. I can live without the microphone, but not the antenna. Replacement antenna costs $17 making the "open box" a much less attractive option. Sales personnel were very apologetic, but could not replace the antenna or reimburse the additional cost. So disappointed. Will probably return.

    Fire Hazard

      Hi Audioguy,

      Thank you for the review and we're sorry to hear what happened with your unit. Although the receiver heats up during operation, this is not a malfunction. If you continuously use this receiver at a large volume, the cabinet temperature of the top, side and bottom rises considerably. To avoid burning yourself, do not touch the cabinet.

      Place the receiver in a location with adequate ventilation to prevent heat buildup and prolong the life of the receiver. Do not place anything on top of the cabinet that might block the ventilation holes and cause malfunctions.

    Do not recommend

    Surround sound will not work for streaming services. Will only allow you to use the 2 front speakers. When trying to use surround sound on any streaming service only background noise but the adds work fine. Could've kept my old stereo, atleast all the speakers worked for everything I used. Huge waste of money.

      Thanks for reaching out to us. We're sorry to hear that you have an issue with your Sony unit. If you are not able to get any surround sound effects when playing audio, there may be a problem with your hookup or there may be an incorrect setting. Please follow these troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue:

      -Be sure to select the optimal sound field for the content. For details on the sound fields, see “Selectable sound fields and their effects.”
      -If you still have the same problem after changing the sound field, make sure the speakers are securely and properly connected to the A/V stereo receiver.
      -Check that the speaker settings are appropriate for the setup using “AUTO CAL” in the “” menu or “PATTERN” in the “” menu. Then check that sound is output from each speaker correctly using “T. TONE” in the “” menu.
      -Perform a test tone operation to check if the speakers are functioning correctly.
      -Increase the volume level of the speakers.
      -Try selecting a different size (small or large) for the surround speakers in the menu.
      -Select the correct speaker pattern on the Audio/Video (A/V) receiver.

      For more information on setting up or to fully enjoy theater-like multi-channel surround sound (5.1 channel), please check the Operating instructions of this unit below.

    Fragile and unreliable.

    After less than year, product would click repeatedly from back of unit then go into protect mode. Mailed in for warranty repair, technicians could not reproduce the issue. Mailed back, worked fine for a year, now same issue has popped up, out of warranty. Not a speaker wire issue, problem is internal. Unpredictably stops working and goes into protect mode. Unless it can be repaired inexpensively it’s going in the trash. Fragile and unreliable.

      Thank you for the review and we're sorry to hear what happened with your AV receiver. We recommend connecting wired speakers with a nominal impedance of 6 ohms to 16 ohms. We also recommend using speaker wires that are anywhere between 12 to 16 gauge. These are most commonly used for connecting speakers to an amplifier or an AV receiver.

    Nice looking unit, but thought the tonal quality was lacking and the reason I am returning this item is that you can not connect an outside antenna to it,.

    Really bad

    Every time I change channels a menu pops up asking what I want to do. watch,listen,easy setup,sound effects or speaker setting. So I have to grab the little remote control and hit the home button. If the channel is HD and I change to a non HD channel it asks the same thing. This is pure stupid. Had I known this before I purchased it I would never buy this thing.

    Won't Last

    I bought this to replace my 30+ years old pioneer receiver. It is a nice system, but it won't last. I've only had it 2 years and the left front channel has gone out. I've tried different speakers, factory reset, etc., and nothing. I'll be looking for a receiver from a different brand.

    Total Garbage

    I suffered with this piece of crap for a year. Completely useless trash. I just ripped it out of my system, threw it on the ground and took a sledge hammer to it. So refreshing! I feel liberated. If you're considering buying this product, I strongly encourage you to just take $300 in cash and burn it. You'll get more value from the momentary warmth and light then you ever will from this total piece of garbage.

    Stopped work after 3 month

    It was working good but after three month started problems: 1. HDMI ARC stopped to work. 2 Receiver didn't recognized by TV and if using external media device the volume can't changed through TV remote. Tried to contact Sony support but unsuccessful .Leave chat and support phone number doesn't work.

      Securely plug your device to a working wall outlet.
