Meets Our Family Needs

Does the job nicely. My wife loves that the receiver will turn on automatically when playing music from her phone via Bluetooth. Bonus... have been able to better sync audio between receiver and tv. Not a big fan of the remote... volume button doesn't always react. However as I use other universal remotes, its not an issue for me.

Decent cheap receiver for home theater

Just don't expect too much. For example, it comes with a microphone for automatic calibration just like more expensive receivers, but this one incorrectly identified my center channel and fear soakers as "large" even though they obviously can't produce low frequencies. The automatic calibration in general was kind of buggy and finicky, unlike the auto calibration on Yamaha receivers. It lacks any network connectivity, which only really matters for firmware update and streaming internet radio. You probably won't need the former, and the latter is becoming obsolete. Most people interested in listening to music over the internet would probably just install Spotify on their smart TV anyway. I have not tried this with an Audio Return Channel yet, but it works fine both as a bluetooth receiver (for much better sounds quality than you're likely to get from a self-container Bluetooth speaker) and it functions well at 5.1 sound for a basic home theater. If you agree trying to build a component home theater system on a budget, this is a decent centerpiece for your home theater. On the other hand, if you're willing to spend the money on a component home theater system instead of a sound bar, you may want to consider some of the more feature-rich receivers that are around $100 more expensive.

Good receiver, Fragile FM antenna connection

The side permanently attached to the stereo broke during initial setup. We didn't buy geek squad protection so we had to call Sony for warranty service, and they wouldn't cover it. We would have had to pay shipping to and from their location, it would have cost $150 just for them look at it, AND we'd have to pay for any repair parts so it wasn't worth the hassle. The receiver is great with other inputs, though, so we're giving it 4 stars. Just be very careful plugging in the FM antenna! And don't expect much help from Sony's warranty department.

Needs Tone Control

I have two Pioneer HPM-100 speakers with 12" woofers and there is barely any bass.

I have to crank it all the way past 30 before it sounds like a theater but my speakers are ancient history old so maybe that's the case.

Simple setup and excellent sound quality. I got it because it was the only brand/model that fit my console (less than 17"). The tight space had me worried about heat build up but that has not been a problem. I bought a top mounted fan that turns on after 88 degrees. It very seldom comes on.

For the price I am more than satisfied with this receiver. I have it hooked up to 4 bookshelf speakers and a powered subwoofer and the sound quality is great. Later I'm going to see if I can connect my Alexa to the receiver :)
