I have four speakers I just need one more and my bass and I’m done. I got it an excellent price.

Excellent 5.2 Option Home Theater Receiver

Owned for 5 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Our house has 18-foot ceilings and, frankly, overhead speakers are not a practical option. So, I decided to stick with a 5.2 receiver but wanted one that was 4K Ultra HD / Dolby Vision & Atmos (at least for decoding the higher-quality audio) / DTX compatible. This Sony fit the bill quite nice. It has 4K pass through and Sony is good with firmware updates to keep it current. The wattage per channel is just fine and it does have adjustments for increasing the output per channel, important if you have a subwoofer with active on - as this keeps enough signal to the subwoofer to keep it from going to 'sleep' continuously during lengthy dialogue scenes. Paired with our new Sony 75" 4K TV, we are enjoying movies on a whole new level.

I was hesitant because of the price, but it works great. Does not have a lot of high end functions, but it is with the money if you don't need anything more.

Great receiver

The only issue I’ve had was that the speaker hookups were not all banana plugs. Honestly this was my fault for not looking at the product photos. It is a great entry level Home receiver.

Pretty good with one flaw

I have several stereos, but wanted something with surround that draws less power than my other receivers and integrated amps and had limited space in my cabinet. This unit will be used often but not for critical listening. This receiver only draws 200 watts which is pretty efficient. There is one critical flaw with this unit. When using analog sources (any of the RCA inputs) you will only get a signal from the subwoofer out when using one of the surround modes. You can’t listen to two channel stereo and have the subwoofer on if the input source in analog. The only options for getting the sub to turn on when using an analog RCA input is to use 4 channel stereo, Dolby pro logic music, or switch to a 2.1 pattern and use 2 channel stereo. But if you switch the speaker pattern all the speaker settings like speaker size and crossover settings get reset. So if you also use this for surround, it’s not practical to switch the speaker pattern and have to redo the set up. If you use the radio, Bluetooth, coaxial or optical input the sub out will work in all sound modes. But if you use something with RCAs you’re out of luck. I have owned many surround receivers and have never run into this issue. I understand why direct mode wouldn’t use the sub out, but there should be an option for 2 channel stereo with the sub regardless of the source. There’s no question the processor can support it. Pro logic music and 4 channel stereo sounds like crap in my opinion, I would never use them for listening to music. I still have not decided if I’m going to keep this as I use it for music often using the headphone out from an iPhone and really want to hear the sub. The comparably priced Denon and Onkyo receivers do not have this limitation. But I was lucky and bought this on sale and open box so the price was pretty good. But at full price I would recommend one of the other options.

great for the money

Wow what a difference! This really added the sound I was looking for when playing games. Better sound and more realistic. I am glad I bought this receiver.

But I’m kind of upset that the UI is very old school command like appearance . For 2020 UI could be better . And remote is bit weird and feels cheap.
