Good value for money.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good receiver if you're not an audiophile analyzing frequency responses with a meter. Sounds good, has HDMI passthrough so can have single cable going to TV if desired. Does lot of feature more expensive recievers do but without the price tag. Does not do Dolby Atmos, which unless you are willing to redesign your entire speaker setup is waste.

Great entry level receiver
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My Denon receiver failed after about 4 years. I began looking for another entry level receiver to replace it and hook up my 2.1 Pioneer/Klipsch system. This receiver is much better than the Denon in terms of power. Where I had to raise the volume to about 50-60 to get good sound on the Denon, I’m at around 30 on the Sony. Clear sound. Excellent power. Works great with my Harmony universal remote too. I would definitely recommend. Especially if on sale.

Great Receiver
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is as advertised , a very good system. I'm using mine strictly as a hifi system , no television or gaming connected to it. I recommend using Sonys set up guide. For that, it is the only time it was connected to my television. Just follow the prompts on your screen and it will set the system to your room and speakers, extremely effective. When listening to my system, the sounds comes directly from in front of me , even though my speakers are located on each side of the room. Thats what I wanted, and their set up system , using the supplied microphone achieved that.I recommend the receiver. Additionally , blue tooth pairing is easy .

Solid receiver
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This offered everything we were looking for and at a comfortable price. We have been enjoying it for 3 weeks now and are very satisfied with it. We requested “Geek Squad” installation, only later to find out they contract this service out. Absolute NIGHTMARE!!!!! Long story, but they were useless!!!! Ended up going back to the store and luckily ran into the only Geek installer left at the store. He was able to get us installed within two days, providing expert, personal service! So after over 2 weeks of waiting and Fighting with the contracted installer service, we finally got the Best Buy quality service we have come to love and expect! Will never again have an install of anything we purchase from Best Buy performed by any one/company other than Best Buy! Work of advice, don’t settle, demand a Best Buy staff installer, not a contractor. Especially because at the time of purchase and request of installation, you are NOT told it is a contract company which will do the install.

For the money brings old speakers back to life.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great receiver for the money. Doesn't have super bells and whistles but does what you need it to. Sound is great, especially if you are only running 4 speakers +1 sub like the old days. Easy to hook up and arc HDMI video works on my old Samsung tv. I did have to use an optical cord for audio because I think the TV is too old to use for both. But the Samsung remote does control both tv and receiver. The surround sound is incredible after setting things up with the included calibration speaker. Whole room shakes during movies.

Great receiver!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.New Sony receiver was purchased due to lightning strike burning out my 15 year old Onkyo receiver. Just hooked it up about 4 days ago, to a new smart TV, a DVD player, and the Xfinity DVR box. I used new HDMI ARC 4K cords between all devices to keep pic and audio quality high, and have all devices talk to each other and take advantage of the technology. The 145 watts per channel is more than sufficient to drive my speakers; only had 115 watts per channel before. It was fairly easy to hook up, the instructions were good, the receiver and TV are both very smart and help you set them up, thank goodness! Very happy with receiver so far.

Love this receiver!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just upgraded to a 4K tv, so I had to have a true 4K UHD setup in my mancave. The Sony STR-DH590 fits my needs perfectly. The hard part will be running wire from the speakers to the receiver, I say that because once you've got the speakers and other devices connected ( in my case a PlayStation 4, Fire Tv, and Sony UHD Blu Ray) setting up and customizing this to your liking is a breeze. I also love the HDMI ARC feature, if your tv has it you can run everything through that port and choose all of your functions from the receiver home screen. If you're looking for a nice 5.1 Surround Sound setup you can't go wrong with this receiver, not only is it quality but at $250.00 it's definitely a bargain.

Difficult Menus But Overall Great Value
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this from BestBuy for $178 before tax. At the time it was the best priced AV Receiver in this category (4K/HDR/5.1). Next best was a similar Yamaha for around $220. Being the my first AV Receiver, I was OK with a budget entry system as this seemed to have all the features I needed. And overall, I am satisfied. Setup... Using it with a Xbox One S connected to the MediaBox HDMI input on the Receiver. This carries both video and sound from the Xbox to the Receiver (receiver needs to be set to HDMI Enhanced for 4K/HDR pass through). From there, the HDMI out on the receiver takes the video over to my 50" Samsung NU6900 4K HDR TV. Sound from the receiver is passed to my Harman Kardon HKTS 16 speaker system via speaker wires and the LFE sub-woofer connection. Usage... The Sony DH590 seems to have good sound output, but I am not a full fledged audiophile. Setting up the unit itself and plugging everything in is fairly simple in and of itself. However, there are a lot of menus and tons of settings that can make things a bit confusing. If you set it up as I do, you can see menus from the receiver on the TV. But only some of the receiver's features can be accessed that way. The rest must be accessed using the small, basic display on the front of the unit. The display can only show a single line of text about 15-20 characters long. Scrolling through and into/out of different menus can be cumbersome. Menu items are often abbreviated which adds to the mystery as to what is does (ex "STBY.LINK," "CTRL.HDMI," "S.F. SYNC"). The included manual helps a little with this but the "Help Guide" online is a bit more helpful. Luckily I pick this stuff up quick and have already gotten accustomed to navigating the settings. But why don't they just make everything accessible from the TV? Or provide a larger display on the front? It's 2018 but this menu system feels 25+ years old. Sound Processing... The receiver comes with a mic you can use to run a calibration at startup or whenever you want by pressing the Home button. It will play some loud beeps and bops from the speakers and set the distance, cross over frequency, level, etc of your system for ideal output. I suppose this works well but I am no expert here. The receiver has many "Sound Fields" which are basically preset profiles for different types of sound. There are "Sound Fields" for Movies, Music, etc. These can be a bit confusing and picking the best one is difficult. I am still trying to determine if there is a 'off' for the sound fields, so I can hear music without any type of preset profile. Annoyances... -The CTRL.HDMI function must be on for the HDMI ARC function to work. This allows audio from the TV to be sent to the receiver via the HDMI cable (think about using the smart apps on the TV). However, when I have this on, the startup/ "Home" menu for the receivers is displayed on the TV every time I turn it on and will remain until cleared away with the receiver remote. Luckily I don't need the ARC function with my setup so I turn CTRL.HDMI off. Perhaps there is another work around but that is what I did. -My main (basically only) media device is the Xbox One S. As I switch apps within the Xbox (Netflix, Hulu, games, etc) the receivers does this refresh of sorts. The receiver acts as if I am changing inputs and the screen goes black (remember my video is passed thru the receiver) for 3-5 seconds before it comes back up and my input ("MEDIABOX") is displayed. Perhaps each Xbox app uses different audio/video formats and forces the receiver to refresh itself. I'm still looking into a solution for this one. In reality it doesn't impact the functionality of the receiver, just makes the transition between apps a little less pleasing to the eyes. But you're not missing anything during that brief blackout as the app is just loading. Still, it bugs me a little, makes switching apps a little annoying. Overall I am pleased with this receiver. If I could change anything, it would a more straightforward and less confusing menu system and settings. But I imagine once I get everything sorted out, I won't need to dive into those settings very often. Best advice would be to take a long look at the manual AND Help Guide before digging into setting this up.

I’m impressed with this AV receiver,
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve owned this receiver for just over a month so my review will reflect initial setup, sound quality and operation over this timeframe. My initial reaction I was impressed with the ease of setup using the supplied microphone to gauge listening area. I did encounter an error message that a rear speaker could not be recognized. Disconnecting and reconnecting the speaker wire resolved this issue. Once the system was setup, Dolby and surround sound programs generated a full body sound that surpassed my previous Onyko receiver. Action movies and sports broadcasts provided full channel sounds to give you that movie feature and/or I feel like I’m there experience for the price I would recommend this receiver to friends and relatives.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am still learning about my new receiver. This is a replacement for my 30 year old unit. So far so good. My main interest is in using it for surround sound while watching movies and tv. I am very pleased so far. Another thing I am enjoying is being able to use my phone via blue tooth to listen to music. .I think that is solid for the $249 I paid on sale.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very impressed with this Sony reciever. Money well spent if you ask me. My old reciever and seen the end of its life and this baby brought us a whole new refreshed level of sound within these walls. Watching the kids dancing through the house again is worth it a hundred times over. Thanks Sony for offering such a reasonable price for a product that preforms the way this does. Oh, and don't skip out on the additional subwoofer that accompany this system. Definitely brings it a step or two above speakers alone.
